This place is the ultimate Paradise. The grounds are truly breathtaking: secluded, lush, with view spanning the horizon across the river and giving it a sense of infinite beauty. Each villa is provided with ample space and luxurious furnishing inside, with quite a bit of ground on the outside, including a private pool! Every day the stuff comes in at least twice and replenishes the fridge and the free, bottle water (4 bottles at all times). In addition, there is fresh fruit, nuts and cookies always available for the guests. Breakfast is plentiful and tasty; the happy hour consists of various types of tea and some kind of fruit and/or other sweets the chef on site prepares. The staff couldn't possible do more to accommodate every whim of ours. A few days ago I complained of a back problem and half hour later there was a masseuse by the pool where I went to give me a free massage!!! The managers, Agung and Gusdex, are simply delightful and eager to please. It may be slightly more expensive than other places, but when one considers the free shuttle to town, the free rides to airport, the extra food and the luxury/beauty one enjoys, it absolutely makes more sense to stay here.

Room Tip: They all face the ridge and they are all astounding!

stayed just for a night, in a pool villa. huge room, good services but i think the pool is too tiny. they should've made it a bit wider. great view in the morning,so natural. they took long time to check us in. but no worries, hopefully we'll back soon.

On travel agents recommendation we selected this hotel, what a mistake. The first villa we were shown was dark, dirty with stains on the cushions, tables and even the sheets. Poorly maintained and worn everything. The villa was also down 15 steep flights of stairs making getting to and from difficult for even someone in shape! We refused this villa and were shown the "next category" for an additional $50.00 US. It was larger but marginally better. This property has seen better days. Then the staff. Poorly trained, English was a problem for just about everyone and not attentive, dining room food marginal. The towels reminded me of a motel 6 and these aren't motel 6 prices! They turned down the A/C at night, very uncomfortable. We discovered much better choices in Ubud so left after 1 night.

This was my husband and my third stay at Pita Maha and without exception, it was perfect. The staff went out of their way to ensure all our wishes were met. The villas itself was so private and relaxing. We will always stay at Pita Maha - have tried others but it just wasn't the same. Thank you for a wonderful holiday again.

We have just returned from our third visit to Pita Maha over a 10 yr period. The first was as a couple in 2004 when we went to use their spa villa for my birthday & then stayed for lunch. We were so impressed with the staff, grounds, view etc that we took our then 5yr old son 2 years ago where we stayed in a pool villa & had a magical time, so much so we booked to return again this year to celebrate my husband & sons 8th birthday.

We booked through booking.com as I got a cheaper deal than going directly to the hotel & when I contacted the hotel via email, they kindly offered to give us complimentary transfers as we were returning guests. So far so good, nice touch. We stayed at the Novotel in Benoa in a pool villa before heading to the Pita Maha. We contacted the Pita Maha prior to travelling and they nominated a pick up time from the Novotel of 11am. We would therefore assume if wanting to pick us up this early, that our room would be ready.......

It pains me to write this review as what we experienced should never have happened. We were sad to leave our pool villa at the Novotel 1.5 hrs before check out as we had such a wonderful time. For a larger hotel chain, we had experienced the friendliest, warmest Balinese charm that we expected we would also encounter at the Pita Maha. Sadly, this was not the case. Our driver was nice, but he worked for a transport company, not the hotel. As it was a Saturday, the traffic was shocking. It took us two hours to get to Ubud. We were thankful to arrive after such a long journey and were looking forward to checking into our next pool villa. Instead of arriving to warm friendly staff like we did at the Novotel, we were greeted by stone faced, extremely abrupt women. There was no warm welcome, instead the head lady on the desk abruptly asked me for our passports. We were sat down with no welcome drink (it arrived half hr later) & we were kept waiting for ages with no explanation. After we had sat there for half an hour waiting for our room key, we were rudely advised by this lady that our room would not be ready for another hour (2.30pm)!!!!!! We were not offered an apology, an offer of lunch, an offer of a place to freshen up, use of the pool or anything. My husband voiced his annoyance & let the lady know he expected the villa to be ready at the check in time of 2pm. This was not an unreasonable request. We took ourselves off to the pool, when it then started pouring with rain. We then were drenched & had to sit in the bar and wait for what seemed ages. Unfortunately, this had set the tone for our Ubud holiday. We were so upset about it that we seriously considered complaining to management and taking our business to another hotel. It was 3.20 by the time we were shown to our villa, so we actually waited nearly 2 hrs for our room!!!!! We were seething mad by this point. The same rude lady when asked what the delay was, blamed it on the rain (even though it didn't rain till the last hour). When we got to the villa, it was as gorgeous as we remembered it, with a "welcome home" banner made out of petals at the foot of the bed. That seemed rather pointless after the poor service we had received at check in. We would have preferred less time being spent setting up the banner & having our room ready, as we were so angry by that point, that the welcome home did not have the desired effect. Anyway, my husband had let this lady know he was not impressed. We decided to leave it and try and make the best of the holiday. The hotel itself is gorgeous, with sweeping views across the valleys, manicured gardens, Balinese architecture, etc. Most of the staff, from spa, gardeners, restaurant, bar, etc are extremely friendly, but a few of the ladies at the front desk are so rude, that they let the hotel down. We booked a 2 hr spa session at their spa villa. The 1hr massage was quite good, but certainly not as good as it was 2 years ago. There were bugs flying around our face, the rose petal water was old, therefore attracting bugs. Compared to the spa at the Alila, or the Surin in Phuket it was actually sub standard. Our son had an unfortunate encounter with Bali wildlife whilst we were at the villa. The staff were excellent when this happened. They were efficient in dealing with this incident, had a car waiting to take us to the clinic and were very caring. They paid the clinic bill for us and we were very grateful to all those that assisted us. I can't remember the managers name, but he was great. Unfortunately we were charged for the full two hours use of the spa which was expensive, despite the incident which happened straight after our massage, therefore we only used 1 hr. We enjoyed our 4 days at the Pita Maha despite the above issues, but sadly we will not return due to the rudeness of a few of the female front desk staff. We had the same treatment at check out. We will either go back to the Alila where the staff are very warm & friendly, or we will try somewhere different. There are so many new hotels & villas in Ubud that there is no reason to put up with poor service for the money you pay. I would suggest that the Pita Maha invest in some training for their front desk staff to remind them what customer service is all about!

Room Tip: Pool villa worth extra money

out of curiosity we went and visited the Amandari and a few other places. Guys, don't even think about wasting your money on the 4 seasons or Amandari. At most you could go to the Royal Pita Maha.
I can't begin to describe the charm and beauty of the villas and the hotel grounds.
Oh and make sure you get a villa with a pool. Don't do the simple garden villa , for the little extra , the pool villa is really really worth it.
The breakfast was delicious and amazing. Service was always great. What else can i say. the infinity pool is beautiful. Just super.
