I booked our honeymoon to Bali a year ago and the most part I was looking forward to was staying at the Komaneka.. The reviews thus far have been very complimentary. Now having been there I feel that the rating is a little misleading and while not bad, it is not an amazing place to stay and I would certainly not put it in the top 5 in Bali.

We stayed in a villa with a pool (room 103) and have the following negative feedback:
- not for the squeamish nor faint-hearted. TONS of lizards/geckos, ants (tiny and giant ones), frogs and other creatures. Some nights we couldn't sleep and I'd get up at least 3 times from the sound of a lizard making high-pitched noises really close to my head. It was terrifying!
- the bathroom is partially outdoors, the bathtub sits in a fish pond and like i mentioned, lots of creatures and frogs chilling on the edge of the bathtub. I had to have my husband do a check of the bathroom in order for me to use it every time.
- The staff are friendly but nothing out of this world. The Balinese are extremely friendly and welcoming and the service/treatment we received here did not surpass the previous resort we had been to.
- The food is good for lunch/dinner but breakfast was inedible some mornings. Pancakes being completely yellow with grease rather than fluffy and cooked properly.
- As a hotel recommended for honeymooners, you don't expect the majority of the guests to be mature.. I would say this is a hotel probably more suited to older couples.
- The noise levels from all the birds, roosters (every hour of the day and night!), frogs, lizards, etc were too high and non-stop.

On the plus side, they were gracious in their service, the spa was nice.. my manicure wasn't amazing but my husband loved his 90 minute aromatherapy massage. My facial was more of a facial massage that was a very relaxing rather than a very cleansing experience. No complaints though!
Lunch and dinner at the Garden Terrace was very good. The location, in the heart of monkey forest road, is very convenient. Though if you're expecting monkeys at your window you'll be disappointed ;) All in all an interesting experience but I would not recommend it given the cost, and I would not go back.

We stayed here at the end of our honeymoon in a pool villa overlooking a rice paddie field. The villas are stunning and so relaxing and quiet. The service was always prompt and friendly and food was flawless. My wife frequented the day spa a few times and was also very impressed.

This has to be one of the best places in ubud as it is right in the heart of the village, walking distance to everything but yet extremely quiet.

If we ever went back to ubud we would not hesitate at all to stay there again.
Thanks Komeneka Monkey Forest for a beautiful few days.

The hotel is located very conveniently at the middle of the Monkey Forest road walking distance to pretty much everything in Ubud. The Komaneka hotel is nice but has some minor flaws. The bed is not very comfortable and the A/C is pretty noisy. Also, we had a ground floor room and we had a bunch of ants in our room. However, we had a good stay as the staff is very friendly and the general setup of the hotel is nice.

I can't say enough about this property. It surpassed all my expectations. The rooms are large and gorgeous. The grounds are beautiful. The location is perfect. The staff and service is incomparable. My only regret is that we did not stay longer than the 5 nights we booked. Ubud is a must for anyone coming to Bali. By the time we got to Legian, I wished we were back in Ubud. For anyone looking for a great guide, please check out Nick at http://www.bali-tours-guide.com/ He was a tremendous asset to our wonderful holiday. If I'm lucky enough to return to Bali, I will without a doubt stay here again.

Komaneka Monkey Forest is the original and smallest of three existing Komaneka establishments. Although facing a major road, it is set back from the bustle and noise in lush and impeccably maintained gardens leading to an inviting and shaded horizon pool with views to ricefields. Tasty and complimentary afternoon snacks by the pool are another welcome attraction. The property comprises rooms, suites and private villas, has a delightful garden restaurant, an art gallery, spa and guest lounge featuring free internet access. Our spacious air-conditioned, king-size suite overlooked a ricefield and the gardens, had its own balcony complete with double day bed and outdoor dining table.

The staff, like so many in Bali are unfailingly obliging and polite. We were welcomed with drinks and cold towels, upgraded and offered the choice of an even better suite at the sister establishment at nearby Bisma. Unable to make a decision we were driven to Bisma, shown around and, although solely tempted by what we saw, ferried back to Monkey Forest because it offered the twin benefits of a peaceful stay with immediate access to the shops, bars, restaurants and ATMs of the Ubud town centre, not to mention the inescapable beauty of the many leafy streets of traditional houses, gardens and temples in their lichen-covered antiquity.

Breakfasts in the restaurant offered a good choice of freshly prepared and appetising options as did dinner where we chose to eat in on two occasions. Even allowing for the fact that it was off-season, the lack of guest patronage in the restaurant was surprising for the food is excellent and the softly lit setting sublime. Presumably, other guests opted for the cheaper and, in our opinion, mostly inferior offerings available in the streetfront cafes with their predictable menus and usually loud and/or awful pop music backdrops. Obtaining a half-decent bottle of wine for an acceptable price in Bali is a major feat but Komaneka managed this, albeit after some exhaustive rummaging through its cellar.

These resorts are classy and Komaneka Monkey Forest is ideally located and fairly-priced for what it offers. Komaneka Bisma is a stunning property but on the fringe of the town, however, there is a regular free shuttle service between all of the resorts in the group. The staff show great pride in their workplaces and are ever ready to please guests.

Ubud is an essential stopover on any visit to Bali. An hour or so north of Denpasar it's a great place to see the traditional culture and architecture of the island, is surrounded by much beauty and is a good base for touring further afield. Komaneka resorts are consistent with this in their quality accommodation, professional service and the overall experience they provide.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Komaneka resort at Monkey Forest Road. A personalized service, you are not just a visitor but really treated as a guest! It's a rather small hotel, 20 rooms only. We had a deluxe room, overviewing the rice fields. The frogs where rather noisy but they go to sleep before midnight. After a few nights, the manager offered us an upgrade to the Komaneka Bisma hotel. On the 10th night of our stay, we were offered a complimentary candle light dinner. Perfect facilities: a spacious Spa and a lovely swimmingpool. In the afternoon, they serve a complimentary afternoon tea. The staff really does it's utmost to make you enjoy your stay at the max! We will certainly return!
