My husband and I stayed at Komaneka Monkey Forest on the recommendation of our travel agent who had pioneered Bali travel for Aussies many many years ago! It was our first trip to Bali. We were delighted with the resort and could not fault it in any way. We were there to celebrate 30 years of marriage and the staff became like family... their attention to detail, friendliness and "could not do enough for you" attitude was exceptional. The location of the resort is second to none, walking out of our "oasis" was fantastic with so many great restaurants right on your doorstep to choose from. We had many memorable dinners at a different restaurant every night! The resort gave us a complimentary massage and dinner in the villa on our last night, which was very romantic and was a great way to end a wonderful week in Ubud. We had many massages whilst in Bali for 2 weeks, but I have to say the one at the Komaneka Monkey Forest was a standout for me. We stayed in a Pool Villa (No 103). It's in a perfect location looking out at the jungle from the wet edge pool and it was a great spot to just chill out and take it all in or read a book. Having breakfast served in our outdoor cabana was peaceful and a very relaxing way to start the day. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff (Gek was our favourite)..... they are the reason we will definitely return to Komaneka Monkey Forest!

What can I say, we were totally blown away by this hotel. It does not seem much as you drive in from a noisy, crowded Balinese street, but as you venture further in it becomes so peaceful. We were suprised to be upgraded for our 2 night stay to an apartment with a plunge pool overlooking the river valley. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The food was excellent, varied and good value.
Even the renovations taking place were quiet!

Komaneka at Monkey Forest, as we understand it, is the first resort in the Komaneka chain. As such, it does seems just a little bit worn around the edges compared to its sister resorts. However, there are many features that still make this resort a wonderful little getaway:

1. Brilliant service from each and every member of the staff. You'll feel pampered and spoiled 24/7.
2. The resort has a great location - right along Monkey Forest road, but also designed to be a little retreat as the rooms and resort itself are a little walk away from the hustle and bustle of the streets.
3. Large rooms. Plenty of space to stash all your shopping!
4. Fantastic "Breakfast on your Private Terrace" service. Generous servings of good food.
5. Beautiful landscaping throughout the resort - plus some of the rooms actually overlook a small rice padi. Gorgeous.
6. Huge bath tub for those who love a bubbly bath. Great dressing space as well.

How I think the resort can be improved:

1. Better lighting - we found the rooms to be a bit dim.
2. Definitely better hairdryers please! A small thing perhaps, but a world of difference when you are tired and wanting your hair dried asap so you can go to bed.

Room Tip: If you don't want to be awakened by crickets at 5am, ask for a room that doesn't overlook th...

I have, with my wife, stayed here 4 times in the last six years and it's still as good, if not better than my first night there.
It's so peacefull, tranquil and comfortable, everything is spotless and the staff are really helpful and friendly. We like to have the apartment with plunge pool that looks out over the paddy field, I always put extra water in the fridge for the workers, it looks like hard, hot and dirty work, so a bottle of water or two is appreciated.
Restaurants, shops, markets, places to see, cooking schools and everything you could want is close by. Avoid the monkeys in the park at the bottom of the road, they are thieving little b#@s^%r*s. I was so unstressed there I could slide under a closed door on the way out.

Room Tip: Be friendly on your first trip. The staff will not forget you, I know you will want to go back. Ther...

My niece and I stayed here for several days before heading for the beach area of Bali. From the moment we arrived we were given personalized service in every way you can imagine. The staff were always responsive to every need. The place itself is lovely and calm, set up above other buildings and there was peaceful music in the background all the time. Our room was large and the bathroom huge with the most luxurious tub I have ever seen and a separate glassed shower. My niece reports that the spa was "awesome," but I was content to hang around the pool. We only ate breakfast in and the restaurant served a good one with lots of selections The location is perfect for strolling to shops and entertainment and to the market. There is a cooking school blocks away and we spent a happy morning there cooking Balinese food. The staff went way beyond expectations in helping us with phone cards etc. This is a gem of a place and I can't say enough about it. Definitely 5 star and above.

Our Jungle view pool villa is an oasis from the madness and noise of Jalan Monkey Forrest. The hotel grounds and gardens are beautifully maintained the staff are friendly and welcoming, the room is clean and spacious and the breakfast in the restaurant is delicious. The hotel is centrally located and within a short walk of the market, palace, museums, temples and art galleries.
I gave this hotel overall 4 not 5 because they are currently undertaking a renovation and had not advised this when we booked. I can assure you that an angle grinder cutting tiles at 2.30pm in the afternoon, just when you want to swim in your pool and stretch out on a sun lounge is not relaxing at all...anyway lesson learned we will ask the question next time, "are you doing renovations?" before making a booking.
Otherwise the Komaneka Monkey Forrest is just perfect.

We stayed back in April 2009 and decided to return. We were welcomed as old friends and thoroughly enjoyed our stay once again. Although on Monkey Forest Rd, the accomodation is set well back from the street - the only noise that you here is far off roosters after dawn, and the ducks coming to feed in the rice field. Peace and tranquility, but central to everything that Ubud has to offer.
We'll be returning as soon as we can.
