“Nice, relaxing place to stay”
Reviewed 14 July 2009

My husband and I stayed several nights at the Bali Spirit hotel and loved it. It is a bit outside Ubud, so it is more convinient to take a taxi or hotel shuttle into town than to walk. The hotel shuttle has complimentary service at regular intervals and then for a small fee, they will take you into town any time.

The hotel grounds are beautiful and the pool area is nice. There is a bar at the pool and you can order food from the restaurant. The restaurant setting was nice. The food was pretty good too - not gourmet or anything, but good. The full menu is available for room service at the same prices as the restaurant.

Our room was reasonably spacious and quite comfortable - we were asigned to an upstairs room, so we had a balcony with some comfortable chairs and a small table. Nice for relaxing with a book and a drink. The downstairs rooms have a patio - more space, but less private. Our bathroom was quite large - garden style, but plenty of privacy. And 2 small lizards living behind the mirror, which was fun.

We had massages that were excellent, however the salon left a little bit to be desired. Seemed a little thrown together - not as polished as the rest of the place.

Overall, we were quite pleased with our stay.

Just back from our first trip to Bali where we spend 3 nights in Bali Spirit. We stayed in the Tantra Room which have a verandah with a bit of a view over the gorges. The room is big but it is dark as there are not much natural lights being surrounded by trees. There is no shower curtains in the bathroom so you get water all over the floor. I can handled that but for me having NO Hot Water was a let down. By the way there is also no blinds over the bathroom window.

Breakfast was good - fruits, American or Balinese and warm smiles. The hotel's shuttle service, which runs once every 2 hours or so is adequate and if you missed the schedule they will take you in for a nominal fee. Overall the staff are very kind and helpful.

We enjoyed dining in Ubud - plenty of choices - unfortunately for us not enough time to sample them all.

We stayed at Bali Spirit for four nights in a River Villa. My friend and I found it to be roomy and comfortable. It's not fancy and posh, still very well looked after and has everything you need to be quite content, but its more "Bali" than "rich." The bathroom is concealed and has everything and inside bathroom has, but it is technically outdoors.
The river villa is right on the river, which is down a number of stairs from reception, but close to the pool and restaurant. In the morning and evening the locals and their children come down to the river to wash clothes and bathe, which was cultural and pleasant.
The pool was fantastic- very quiet so we often had it to ourselves- including cocktails in the pool bar. Although the staff members were pleasant and friendly, they probably did not speak as excellent English as the staff in Legian, but they were always willing to help and smile. We ate a lot of food at the hotel and really enjoyed it, not a huge variety, but their Nasi Goreng was superb! It is very easy to get into the town of Ubud- if you miss the free shuttle from the hotel; it’s not much at all for the hotel staff to take you in anytime you like. Great food and things to do in Ubud, although we probably should have researched the food places beforehand as a lot of the best ones seemed to be hidden away. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here and would come back to Bali Spirit for sure.

this place is certainly beautiful, the grounds, amazing. We had our 3 and 5 year old with us and it certainly wasnt good for them. The pool is a very quiet space, as is the rest of the hotel. I was expecting a fabulous room and I thought it was pretty average, they promised an upgrade upon arrivel if the room was too small, (emerald room, which it was) but then told us that the hotel was full. This was simply not true. The shower in the bathroom was barely a trickle and complimentary shampoo etc smelt like disinfectant. This restaurant is beautiful, overlooking the river, and the staff really lovely. The courtesy bus was really handy, and the driver friendly. A new restaurant opened up on the road next to the hotel while we were there and the food there was amazing and really cheap. I think for the $ you could get a better hotel elsewhere

We were married at the Bali Spirit in February 2009 and couldn't recommend it more highly. We stayed in the Tantra Suite, it was a long way from the restaurant but not a big deal if you don't mind a lot of stairs. The room was clean, beautifully furnished and had a great view. I also had friends and family staying at the hotel in Emerald rooms and everyone was happy with their stay.

The restaurant looks over the river which the locals use to bath in and the local children love playing in. The breakfast is great with a big selection of Indonesian and western dishes, fruit, juices and omlettes made to your liking.

The most impressive aspect to this Hotel has to be the staff. Nothing is too much trouble and they are personable and friendly. They are a lot of fun and really are an asset to the Hotel. We were travelling with our 7 month old baby boy, and even though the steps aren't ideal, the staff followed me with an umbrella while I walked to the restaurant with my baby. The cots are in perfect condition and kept very clean. The staff were wonderful with my son, they enjoyed playing with him and holding him when we were eating.

All in all I would highly recommend this hotel, although it probably isn't suitable for the elderly or disabled due to the amount of steps.

Stayed here for 5 nights and enjoyed it immensely. the staff were really lovely, the room was small but cosy (emerald room), the breakfasts were a lovely start to the day, and the gardens and surroundings were unbelievable. overall a gorgeous place to stay, and i cant say enough about the gorgeous surroundings. the pool, restaurant and gardens were all wonderful.

a few things i thought i might mention, which didnt bother us during our stay, but may be issues for others:

1. because of the open air bathrooms and the lack of fly screens, mosquitoes and flies were an issue. the staff came in daily to put in mosquito coils, but they weren't entirely effective.
2. the drink prices here were quite dear, especially for us as we were students. for those coming here with plenty to spend i doubt it will be an issue, but if you can, you may well be better off heading into town for drinks.
3. the hotel is not situated close to the main centre of ubud, but there is a shuttle buss which comes and goes every 2 hours or so. we chose this place specifically because it was away from the rush and was lovely and quiet, yet for those who want to be in the middle of all the action, this place is probably not for you.

apart from this points, i think that this is the most wonderful place to stay, for everyone, such as families, couples and honeymooners. we really loved this place, and we cant say enough how much fun we had.

We chose the Bali Spirit Hotel based on the great reviews from other travelers and amazing photos posted on their website. We booked a 3-night Spirit and Relaxation package offered by the hotel. Upon arrival the hotel staff was very friendly and helped us settle into our room. After a 5-night stay on Sanur Beach, the standard room seemed very dull and unlike the photos we had seen online, the toilet did not flush, etc. Through our stay, the food offered by the resort, whether it be the complimentary breakfast, the poolside menu, or the romantic dinner included in our package, was terrible. We instead chose to eat the majority of our meals at the amazing restaurants in the town of Ubud. Our package included a "couples massage" which after arriving we were told could not be done together because they did not have two massage therapists on staff at the same time. Instead they insisted that we each schedule 1 1/2 hour massages separately while the other waited, very much taking away from the couples getaway that we had anticipated. We chose to skip this part of the package and received no compensation from the resort. The distance from town was nice although with close proximity to the road we did hear road traffic throughout our stay. We liked the distance from town and actually had a very nice moonlit walk one night from town to the resort. Overall, just not what we expected.
