I have stayed at Ananda Cottages just outside Ubud many times since 1978 and even though it has grown over the years I always like to come back. Excellent accommodation with beautifully crafted rooms in beautiful surroundings, friendly and helpful staff, access to two wonderful pools and of course the great walks out the back. There really is nothing bad to note. So I will always go back to Ananda.

Room Tip: ground floor superior room is all you need - very tranquil and peaceful and try the bottom pool - its lovely.

I am just finishing up a one week stay at Ananda Cottages in Ubud. For various reasons (none due the hotel), I've been in 3 different rooms - one good, one average, one poor. I'd suggest asking to you see your room before check in. Ananda is split in two. The rooms in the further section seem to be nicer and newer.

My first room was 2nd level upstairs in the older section. It had a decent balcony and plenty of bathroom counter space. I never slept in this room. The second room was also 2nd floor but smaller than room 1. TINY balcony and TINY sink area with no counter space. This room had finger width sized gaps in the walls and doors and really creaky floors. Cleanliness of both rooms seemed ok. Others staying on this side of the property complained of being awoken before 8 am by housekeeping wanting to clean the room. (There are no do not disturb signs.)

Room 3 on the other side of the property was the best, ground floor with a comfortable king-sized bed with canopy mosquito netting, an outdoor bath and nice patio. This room was spacious and comfortable. The only thing I could complain about is that sound does carry from other rooms and there is some nearby construction that may wake you.

Housekeeping varied. Beds were made, towels replaced, floors cleaned daily and well. Shampoo was not replaced once during the full week (thankfully, I brought my own). I also ran out of toilet paper twice during my stay; they need to always leave a second roll in the bathroom. There are no washclothes or tissues provided, so pack your own if you want them. There is a small refrigerator in each room with a few "minibar" items. Rooms 1 and 2 had no hair dryer, but room 3 did. There are no clocks or TVs in the room.

This hotel is a bit outside of the main part of Ubud. If you want to be close, this is not the place for you (although there is no shortage of taxis.)

Room Tip: Ask to see your room first.

lovely peaceful location and beautiful property a little bit (20min walk) from the town. the pool by the rice field was out of order and the pools&chairs not so well looked after. nice breakfast. wifi at reception.
do try the "sister spa hotel" with free shuttle. especially lovely in the sunset.
the yoga and walks were grazily highly priced but the bike tour they advertise (and booked for me at the hotel) was fantastic.
you might want to bring earplugs for the frogs.

I love Ananda and wouldn't stay anywhere else. Although its out of town I love being away from the hustle and bustle. It's so quiet and the views are breathtaking. I love the rooms and particularly the outdoor shower. With three pools to choose from you practically have a pool to yourself. The food is good for the price. We haven't had dinner here but breakfast and lunch is food. The staff are ever so friendly. To me it's an oasis!!!!

Great property with 3 pools and surrounded with rice fields. Stayed 2 nights in room 19. Had a shower / bathroom outside which was lovely, although not ideal for whoever doesn't like wildlife... had loads of geckos & frogs around! The bed is big and very very comfortable & nice patio to relax and enjoy the views. We had people in the room above us and could hear them walking about in the morning, also lots of staff where gathered next to our room as if waiting for us to leave the room so that they get the cleaning done!
Breakfast was included in the rate. it was simple but good. The cottages are a good half an hour away from central Ubud. We had a car which was convenient since it's a hilly road. Having said that, there are still restaurant & shops withing walking distance.
