“A shame about the Manager”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2011

We walked in and asked for a room and was quote $55 for a deluxe. Then we went and looked at Artini 3 which was full. When we came back the old Manager put the price up to $60 per night. He would not budge and return to the first quote and it made for an unpleasant arrival. This was only to be outdone when we booked out. The Manager wanted cash. He said the phone lines were down and we couldn't pay by credit card. Somehow we managed to give him a combination of Rupees and some Australian dollars to settle the bill. Be warned, only book online. Agree with the bathroom comments in earlier reviews. We would have been Ok with the place if not for the rude Manager.

A colourful place (great garden) with a helpful, friendly staff. The rooms are good, but the bathroom could use some upgrading. Didn’t really like the shower and hot water was sparse. The restaurant serves, besides the included breakfast, a good lunch and dinner. Good location, not too busy but everything is within walking distance, including the very nice restaurant Kafe which you really have to visit.

There are pro's to Artini 2 - service staff are lovely (except for one sleazy older guy downstairs who was a bit too touchy feely but maybe he only does that to solo travellers?), the garden is beautiful, the pool is really nice, location wise it's pretty good - the views of the rice paddies are great and especially considering you are practically on a main road, it is very peaceful and serene. Hanoman is one of my preferred streets in Ubud - it's handy and there's lot of good food, a couple of nice shops yet it's not the hectic crap shoot of Monkey Forest Rd (Nur Salon/ Spa up the road is really nice too!). The rooms are pretty nice, the bathroom not so great. Everytime I let the water out from the bath it came surging back up the stinky drain - otherwise it was very clean. The beds are foam mattresses. I'm not overly fussy, but at the price you pay for Artini (BARGAIN with them, never pay the price on the sheet of paper) you expect better.

Overall I enjoyed cheaper places much more, but if (unlike me) you'd prefer a guesthouse to a homestay/B&B & you want a pool, garden & nice views maybe this is for you. My tips - check you can drain the bath before you commit, avoid the old guy downstairs, make sure you bargain & don't waste your money with air-conditioning - it barely works, sucks pointless energy and a fan will provide much more comfort in the tropics!

In 2008 we stayed a few nights in the Artini in Ubud, recommended by our driver, it turned out to be one of my favorites! So authentic, beautiful... a Gem! Artini has 2 places to stay in Ubud, one in the center, we stayed at, and one just on the outskirts with a great Spa with views over the rice field!

We had a lovely stay at T4 ; a room on the top floor overlooking gardens and rice fields. Staff were friendly and attentive and knew that we didn't need any tours so didn't push them. The room was always cleaned well and had good facilities. Sutama, and Made, the manager, were especially helpful and friendly. We thought it was very good value for money - we booked through the internet - of course, expect to pay more if you are coming in off the street. The gardens are delightful and the pool was very clean.

We started our time in Ubud at Artini 1 which is across the street from Artini 2 cottages; however after 7 nights they needed the room back for another guest and suggested that we move over here. The manager was overbearing and seemed to be lying to us about the availability of rooms. There was another person who came in after us and was told there were plenty of rooms available where as we were told that there was just one left. Then the price conversation began. He was quoting a price that was higher than advertised on their website. I showed it to him and he begrudgingly agreed to match that price. The room itself was fine. The king size bed was actually two twins pushed together leaving a dip in the middle. The AC was noisy and the fan had a rattle to it, but thankfully we didn't need to run them for too long each day. The breakfast was ok nothing special but did the job. The location was excellent if you want to walk around the village. The highlight is definitely the staff. They are very nice and want to help with everything. The hard sale for tours and the like gets old but I don't think it would be a different experience at any other hotel. There is also no internet in the room which was a bit of a disappointment since in the less expensive Artini 1 we had internet connection.

Stayed in an a/c room which was dated but clean. Very comfortable beds, hot water and plenty of space.
There is no fridge or safe in the room but I was comfortable leaving my possessions in the room while I was absent.
Breakfast which was included was basic bit delicious. The staff are all friendly and helpful. The hotel will try to convince you to book a rafting trip (which is an incredible experience!) but be aware that you
can book it much cheaper in Ubud.
The hotel is in a great location. You step straight out onto a main road and are within walking distance of the monkey forest, shopping, a 24hr deli, great restaurant, and the centre of Ubud.
The greatest thing about this hotel is the garden setting. The staff meticulously tend to it and it truly does give you a sense of authentic Bali culture.
This hotel is exactly what I expected for the price. And at $45 a night I felt more than happy there.
A warning - if you stay in the cottages with the thatched ceilings, expect to hear rodents at night. We never saw any but were woken by noises on two occasions. There is a resident cat that must be well fed.
