We stayed here as part of an Intrepid tour in Jan/Feb 2011. I had read some reviews beforehand so knew to ask for the brick built rooms, ie. not the thatched roof room as apparently they come with um.. visitors!
We were given a nice room on the second floor with a lovely balcony over looking the pool.. the room itself was decent enough.. traditional balinese wooden design , fairly dark. The "bathroom" as in most budget places was a toilet with the "one hose does all" job..not spiffy clean but not dirty either.. manageable Lol! the sinks etc are in the bedroom which means you can get some cockroaches so dont leave stuff lying around. Im used to budget accommodation as Ive done lots of tours but I came here directly from Bali Hyatt in Sanur so it was a bit of an adjustment! And some friends that stayed in the thatched roof rooms did have some droppings etc on their beds when they returned out from the um visitors that live in the roofs! That said the staff were lovely, the grounds are beautiful and the pool is good size and perfect for chilling out. The location is great, smack bang in the centre of Ubud which is a great place, lively with lots of great art for sale and some really good restaurants to boot. And there is a beautiful hilltop walk that must be done, followed by a fish pedicure! Try Kafe if you are in the mood for healthy homecooked food.. they do "raw" options here and great for vegans/vegetarians. the food is top quality and its a really nice place to just sit and watch the world pass by. The staff are all kids from the cartering school next door.
And you should definitely buy the lovely incense they sell here.. especially the "bugs away" one which came in very handy throughout our trip in Bali/Lombok.
We stayed one more night in Artini on the way home and were given the stone bungalows..such a difference! The rooms are genuinely lovely ..again theyre not maintained as well as they should, its the norm unfortunately in Bali things like peeling paint, damp patches etc.. however the room was huge with a massive bed, tv, fridge, dvd player and enormous bathroom.
If youre looking for 5 star modern accommdation then this isnt the place for you.. to be blunt maybe Bali isnt the place for you! But these rooms do the trick and as long as youre not too fussy theyre fine, location for me being most important with nice staff and food to follow and gorgeous grounds. Yes the rooms are a bit hit and miss but that kinda adds to the charm of the place.. nothing better than sitting on a rickety balcony overlooking the pool with a cool beer and listening to the family in the house next door get ready for dinner!

Room Tip: As for pool facing or at least a stone/brick built room.

Clean, Safe, good service, nice food, close to town and hidden in wonderful gardens. The staff really do care that you are happy and ask daily how you are and what plans you have for the day. Everytime I walked back into my room there were fresh flowers and the room had been cleaned, even when I had a nap the bed was remade for me .. Fresh towels and sheets daily. The AC was great in the rainy season it is hot and sticky, I looked forward to cooling off in the pool each afternoon before taking a nap in my cool room.. A bath with very hot water and a shower over head ...I was in heaven at Artini 2. I will be back

Room Tip: Super Deluxe Rooms are lovely and in traditional style

We have just stayed at the cottages for a week. we had our to children with us aged 12 and 15 and we left artini and went to Legian to another hotel for a week. Our week in Legian just didnt stand up to the standard we had at Artini. The service at Artini is friendly and they can speak english which helps heaps. We definately want to go back loved the cottages and the freshly cooked breakfast was so yummy. As I said we moved on to Legian and our hotel there was crap and we got bali belly food was discusting. While at Artini food was great and never got Bali belly.walking into artini its like a tropical paradise loved how there are not many guests its small and personal and you are not just a number the staff remember you by name and your room number.Thank you to all at Artini what a great job they do..

We stayed for 3 nights in January. the staff were lovely and made our stay everyone was very friendly and helpful. The location is good close enough to some good place to eat and drink aound a 15 minute walk to the football field and its right opposite Kafe which is a great place to eat. This is budget accomodation so very good value in our eyes, the only problem we had was the very dirty linen and even dirtier pillows which really do need replacing we found ourselves covering our pillows with towels to sleep. This was no fault of the cleaner who did his best. The gardens are lovely and the pool area great to relax - overall its an oasis of calm in Ubud and great value for money

My first trip to Ubud was 3 nights in this delightful hotel.
Superb room, light and airy, clean and dry. Lovely gracious friendly staff. Lovely grounds. So peaceful and serene as well as easy walking distance to all the cafes and shops of Ubud.
I was told this was only 20 years old, but with the sculptures and gardens you'd swear it was older.
Beautiful town, and maybe the best accommodation.

We decided to in Ubud during high season with no reservations--tried Artini 1 first (didn't see the rooms there but the place looked GORGEOUS)--they were booked but they sent us down the road to Artini 2, sweet little oasis in bustling Ubud. The property is green and gorgeous--like a secret garden. Room was clean and cozy, the elevation and bamboo roof made it feel a little like being in a tree house...in a good way. The staff was incredibly warm and accommodating, watching our bags and inviting us to continue using the pool and other hotel accommodations after we had checked out. Give it 4 instead of 5 because although the price is extremely reasonable by most standards, you can find places of similar caliber for a bit cheaper, but you have to book those places very far in advance to get in.

We stayed in Artini 2 Cottages for one night only to relax on the way back to Seminyak from Padangbai. We really like the hotel's relaxing balinese atmosphere, pleasant and helpful staff, nice pool, good breakfast, and what a nice room! We only got the double bed but this is not the standard double bed size - bigger. Location-wise, it was perfect for me as it is very close to Bebek Bengil.
