“A Quiet Boutique Hotel”
Reviewed 11 March 2011

What a wonderful quiet place to stay in Ubud. Guests are personally greeted by Oka Wati herself and she makes an effort to check that everything is to your liking.
There are only about 10 rooms - some standard and some deluxe. With traditional Balinese architecture and stone carvings we found it a pleasant alternative to the normal resort style rooms. There is no TV or phones in the rooms but there is air conditioning and a fridge. Each room has a balcony area with tables and chairs where you can quietly read and appreciate the beautiful gardens. The pool - although not large is more than adequate for a refreshing swim. As the hotel is more suited to adults only this ensures a quite read around the pool is always possible. Pool towels are supplied.

The resort is located off Monkey Forrest road. The laneway is diagonally opposite the playing fields cnr of Jalan Dewi Sita and Monkey Forrest Road. There are some small stalls in the the first lane and then you turn right down another small cobbled lane way. You will have to walk as there is no car access down these lanes but its only a few minutes.

Breakfast is included in the tarrif and can be served to you on your balcony or at the gazebo over looking the pool and rice paddies. We found the selection quite adequite but if you are after a wider selection there are pleanty of restaurants on Monkey Forrest road. There is a 7/11 type store near by for any other needs. WiFi is available at a cost at the resort, but a lot of the restaurants offer this access free when dining. The main market square is only a 5-7 min walk if you don't stop but with all the tempting shops in between this is very hard. There are lots of money changers also between the resort and market place, but be sure to use one that doesn't charge commission or tax.

I would highly recommend Okawati Hotel for those seeking a quiet stay somewhere that is close to all the shops and market place. They have one family room which has a queen bed and a single bed. Twin bedding is also available.

The room we were originally supposed to stay was a desaster: On the ground floor, very dark and very smelly (think ftom the bathroom). We were able to change rooms to a better one which was also more expensive. Even for indonesien standards staff was feckless. It took them almost three days to fix the TV. Complains and requests were all handled with indifference.

We were traveling with a group of 7. We found the hotel to be quite delightful, clean, serene, and a great breakfast. We were in room 2B(upper). Our friend was in 1B - so we shared a balcony and had a delightful time. These rooms are either new or fully refurbished. Large, beautiful bathroom with tub and separate shower, frig, large balcony. That said, the rest of our group was in the older building. It was quite a discrepancy - one in particular was very unhappy. I think that is why you see diverse reviews. Oka Wati is a lovely lady and gracious host. The staff attentive and friendly. If you go out and won't return before dark, be sure to take a flashlight. The alley to the hotel is very dark after 9:30pm - though quite safe, I understand. Ask for room 2B, 2nd choice 1B - after that, not sure if I would stay there.

I agree with all previous positive reviews of this hotel -- it truly is an "oasis" in Ubud.

I cannot understand how someone could call the rooms dirty or dark -- they were very clean and almost works of art (we stayed in 2 different rooms). The pool was clean, quiet and beautiful.

My only "citicism" would be that the hotel isperhaps a little pricy (they asked IR 650k and we paid IR550k) -- given that there are actually several very nice hotels immediately around this hotel asking lower prices -- perhaps this comes with being the "pick" of Lonely Planet?

Nevertheless, Oka Wati an excellent hotel and the staff were great!

Beautiful small quiet hotel close to the main street. We booked for 4 night and eventually extended it to 10 nights. There is a lot to do in Ubud... and we really liked the hotel.

All rooms have a veranda where you can have your breakfast in the morning (very nice banana pancakes!). The rooms are clean, beds are good. Swimming pool is very nice, surrounded by tropical garden. Also a nice view over the rice fields.

Highly recommended for a stay in Ubud.

I can highly recommend Okawati's for a traveling family, and for everyone else. Try to book their family room, with a king size bed and two singles, attractively arranged, if you need them. The place is clean, very relaxing, unbelievably quiet and within a short walking distance to everything. Ibu Okawati and her staff go the extra mile to ensure the happiness of her guests. Our three year old fell ill during our stay. A quick trip to the front desk to ask for the phone number of a clinic and within thirty minutes a doctor and nurse were on our doorstep at the hotel, thanks to Ibu who arranged everything. The pool is great, and there are numerous restaurants around the corner. Plus the breakfasts, served in your own porch, are awesome!
