We had been planning to get married abroad as we found planning a wedding in our home city to be. A year ago we began contacting places in Bali to arrange our wedding and found that it wasn’t as easy as we had first planned. A lot of hotels were not very responsive and didn’t want to answer all 1 million questions we had for them (or should I say, my wife had for them). When we finally found Wapa Di Ume and sent them an email we got a response from Gusti Swijana (Resort Manager) extremely quickly. Over the following months we continued to contact him and always he would have found an answer for us or had promised that he would find out. When our party arrived they had a banner up ready for us.
We absolutely loved the place. Bali is not a tranquil place mostly but when you were in Wapa Di Ume you felt like you were in your own private oasis. There were 30 of us staying there for the wedding so we had taken over the majority of the resort as it’s a smaller boutique hotel. We didn’t expect that we would get much more than a basic wedding treatment but we were completely wrong. They had completely transformed the entire villa covering it in flowers and decorations. They found out that the wedding had a blue theme for the bridal party so all the flowers there were blue except the bride. The setting for the wedding suited our tastes perfectly. We loved all the intricate stone and woodwork throughout the resort which evoked the really traditional Balinese culture.
They planned the wedding day down to a tee. Our music, how we wanted the entrance, everything. We just told them what we wanted and they got it all organised. Gusti Suparsa was our designated wedding planner and he hovered around the wedding making sure everything we smoothly. He was disappointed when it rained and we had to move the reception dinner up to the restaurant. They had spent a couple days decorating the area so we could understand how he felt.
Our villa was simply beautiful. As we were having our wedding we decided to splurge out and get the best single room villa in the resort which had its own swimming pool overlooking the rice fields. Another major feature of our villa was an outdoor shower which if I ever build a house I would love to have (I must admit that the outdoor shower was a little bit nerve wracking the first time though).
My family were in the full assortment of rooms (Wapa Pool Villa, Family Villa, Lanai Terrace and the Di Ume Suite) and having been in most of them I can attest that they are as spectacular as ours. Whichever one you choose won’t disappoint in my honest opinion.
The staff were all really friendly and they smiled all the time. We felt they were genuinely happy to have us there. I can’t even pick out any specific staff that stood out as exemplary. They were all exemplary. They all made us feel very welcome just through being nice, friendly, helpful people.
Overall, if you are looking for a different type of Bali holiday away from the masses of clubbing, drinking and partying people then Wapa Di Ume is for you. It’s a place you choose if you want to relax. The rest of Bali feels more like you are trying to do as much as you can whereas Wapa Di Ume want you to do as little as possible. You are there to relax, unwind and enjoy yourself.
My whole family mentioned that they felt really relaxed and happy by the end of our stay there. It was truly the best place I have ever, ever stayed in my life. We plan to return in a few years and only stay in Wapa Di Ume, Ubud and skip the rest of Bali. I truly feel like its paradise there.
