We had been planning to get married abroad as we found planning a wedding in our home city to be. A year ago we began contacting places in Bali to arrange our wedding and found that it wasn’t as easy as we had first planned. A lot of hotels were not very responsive and didn’t want to answer all 1 million questions we had for them (or should I say, my wife had for them). When we finally found Wapa Di Ume and sent them an email we got a response from Gusti Swijana (Resort Manager) extremely quickly. Over the following months we continued to contact him and always he would have found an answer for us or had promised that he would find out. When our party arrived they had a banner up ready for us.

We absolutely loved the place. Bali is not a tranquil place mostly but when you were in Wapa Di Ume you felt like you were in your own private oasis. There were 30 of us staying there for the wedding so we had taken over the majority of the resort as it’s a smaller boutique hotel. We didn’t expect that we would get much more than a basic wedding treatment but we were completely wrong. They had completely transformed the entire villa covering it in flowers and decorations. They found out that the wedding had a blue theme for the bridal party so all the flowers there were blue except the bride. The setting for the wedding suited our tastes perfectly. We loved all the intricate stone and woodwork throughout the resort which evoked the really traditional Balinese culture.

They planned the wedding day down to a tee. Our music, how we wanted the entrance, everything. We just told them what we wanted and they got it all organised. Gusti Suparsa was our designated wedding planner and he hovered around the wedding making sure everything we smoothly. He was disappointed when it rained and we had to move the reception dinner up to the restaurant. They had spent a couple days decorating the area so we could understand how he felt.

Our villa was simply beautiful. As we were having our wedding we decided to splurge out and get the best single room villa in the resort which had its own swimming pool overlooking the rice fields. Another major feature of our villa was an outdoor shower which if I ever build a house I would love to have (I must admit that the outdoor shower was a little bit nerve wracking the first time though).

My family were in the full assortment of rooms (Wapa Pool Villa, Family Villa, Lanai Terrace and the Di Ume Suite) and having been in most of them I can attest that they are as spectacular as ours. Whichever one you choose won’t disappoint in my honest opinion.

The staff were all really friendly and they smiled all the time. We felt they were genuinely happy to have us there. I can’t even pick out any specific staff that stood out as exemplary. They were all exemplary. They all made us feel very welcome just through being nice, friendly, helpful people.

Overall, if you are looking for a different type of Bali holiday away from the masses of clubbing, drinking and partying people then Wapa Di Ume is for you. It’s a place you choose if you want to relax. The rest of Bali feels more like you are trying to do as much as you can whereas Wapa Di Ume want you to do as little as possible. You are there to relax, unwind and enjoy yourself.

My whole family mentioned that they felt really relaxed and happy by the end of our stay there. It was truly the best place I have ever, ever stayed in my life. We plan to return in a few years and only stay in Wapa Di Ume, Ubud and skip the rest of Bali. I truly feel like its paradise there.

Room Tip: They are building new villas which are up the back farther from the road so they will be a bit quiet...

Stayed in Feb 2014. Booked a standard room which was quite small and boring, which propped us to upgrade to a pool villa for nearly double the price. While the villa was OK, it definitely wasn’t worth the money that we spent when comparing other accommodations in the area.
Service was also lacking the genuine effortless quality that I had experienced at every other hotel in Bali. Special mention for the rude young lady from the front desk that came off as creepy, nosey, and had an air about her that she was too good to work there. When I think about Wapa di Ume, every nice memory is tainted by my experiences with this girl from the front desk!

After staying in busy Seminyak for a week, our three nights in Ubud at Wapa di Ume was an absolute highlight and much needed rest for the end of our holiday. The staff were very helpful, the resort was beautiful and the rooms were very large and tastefully decorated. We did not find the noise from the building by the pool complex a problem at all during our stay. We especially enjoyed the restaurant with traditional indonesian meals with vegetables grown from their own organic garden. The cooking class with the chef was awesome and included a tour of the local markets. Would recommend Wapa di Ume as a slice of luxury, especially for couples/a romantic getaway.

Ok, where do I start? With the fireflies darting through the rice paddies at night? Or maybe with watching the the full moon rise from our deck? No, those things were nature at her best.
Maybe it was with the short delay at checkout that initially I cursed, but later was grateful for as we were shown through our room with its canopied bed and the bath thoughtfully run and sprinkled with frangipanis.
What can I say? Our stay was blissful and perfect for a special occasion.
The meals are good, the service is friendly, the shuttle bus makes getting in and out of Ubud convenient.

Room Tip: We had a rice fields room. There is an extension going on near the pool, but we had no noise of it f...

A beautiful resort just outside of Ubud with stunning views. Stayed here for 3 nights whilst on hols in Bali. Lovely rooms with their very own garden, great food, lovely staff and the spa was great. Thoroughly recommended for anyone looking for a little bit luxury whilst staying in Ubud. Shuttle bus service was great into the town so no need for taxis. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: We had one night in a suite near the pool hut actually preferred room 7 nearer the reception

The first night we stayed at Wapa Di Ume we were subjected to an all night concrete pour on a neighboring property that started at 9pm and lasted until 5:30am. I unfortunately have a very intimate knowledge of the sounds of a concrete truck driving on and off the site, being whistled and yelled into position, connected to the pouring equipment, then concrete pumps being revved up, concrete and gravel sloosh, detachment of pouring equipment, revving of truck to leave site, then 5 mins later the arrival of the next truck on repeat on a 30 minute loop. It was impossible sleep.

We took this up with management who provided the cursory apology but no acceptance of any responsibility to have done anything different but charge me the usual full rate for the room. In my opinion a complete lack of business ethics by the owners.

If that is not bad enough, you should know that Wapa Di Ume are also directly contributing to the problem with a large extension with construction sounds 7am - 5pm daily, power tools when I was there but undoubtedly concrete pours on occasion also. This extension is directly across the river from the pool area so it don't look like the pictures anymore. The scale of the extension is huge so expect this problem to continue for the rest of 2014.

Other than the noise pollution, the resort is pretty good but not great for the price.

We first stayed at Waka in 2011. July weather is perfect. The accommodation is a luxury retreat set in the hills overlooking the rice fields of Ubud. The staff are so friendly & welcoming that we go back every year to visit. The food is excellent. The location is perfect only a couple of minutes from the heart of Ubud, which has the best markets. Highly recommend this accommodation for anyone wanting to experience a Bali Village.
