We stayed there at the beginning of October 2011....review now better late than never!!!!! We loved the place and the history it has and the most beautiful gardens we have seen....the garden create such an atmosphere of wonder and delight!! Our room was lovely and the balcony a delight to sit on and listen to the rain, the creatures and the weather. My partner walked to the Monkey Forest while I stayed back and did computer things, and I had the most relaxing time updating apps, having some drinks, and peanuts in my seat overlooking the valley, the gardens in the comfortable chairs where the computers are, all open air. The terrace where the restaurant is overlooks the gardens and the food was delicious. What a lovely place with so much atmosphere!!!!!!

Tjampuhan is a wonderful, quite retreat, built on a steep hillside...so if many steps a problem ask for top level or perhaps another hotel. Staff, attentive and friendly. Raja room was generous space and sit out balcony with great view over green well kept gardens and ponds. Swimming pool at bottom of hill and small, but depends on if you went to sit by the pool or see around Ubud. Breakfast reasonable quality and choice. Evening menu limited but is on site. Shuttle service free and frequent both into or back from town which is a 15min walk away ( easier to walk home, down hill than up hill into town)....Monkey Forest use the shuttle or taxi, which abound. Hotel prices for arranged transport was reasonable, both for a day sight seeing ( 600,000 rup.) ot to airport ( 300,000rup) Several rice fields close at hand.

What I was surprised that few people had mentioned was the fact that the walls are really thin - so unless you want to listen on people's most err... intimate nightly acivities ;) you might want to find somewhere else to stay.

The hotel is beautiful but some rooms are seriosly mouldy, while out first room was mould free it was literally next to the generator which went on all night. We also found the spa staff very unfriendly.

The spring fed pool is lovely and often has few guests there and the breakfasts are top notch. For the money, though, there are better places and we found the customer service lacking and the noise thing became an increasingly pertinant issue (this included construction sounds until 9pm!)

Room Tip: Either you get mould or generator noise, you choose!

Stayed here at the end of June. Rooms clean and a good size with a balcony. No television in room and wifi at reception only. Pool mostly in shade next to the spa which has views of the river and Forrest. only had breakfast and the banana pancakes were amazing - just kept eating them!

I stayed here with my partner from the 16th to the 18th of July. For the price we paid it was not worth it. The scenery around and in the hotel was beautiful, but despite that it did not make up for a few issues.

First, no wifi in the rooms? Most hotels I visit, even backpacker hostels provide free wifi in your room (in Asia anyway).

Second, no TV in a room for $130 a night? That is pretty disappointing, after a long day of temple hopping and eating a big dinner relaxing on the bed watching some TV can be nice.

Third, the restaurant was overpriced and not good quality. The food on Monkey Temple rd is a similar price and better quality.

Fourth, bed bugs, lots and lots of bed bugs combined with unclean linen.

The service was abit mixed, some staff were very helpful and genuine in their service. While others, seemed very bored and would rather be somewhere else.

It is a very average hotel, I would not recommend it despite the beautiful setting.

This is a great place for the true experience of Bali, its not a 'modern' boring trendy resort! It may have older style bathrooms but it adds to the experience! The rooms, views, and carvings everywhere you look. Just be aware if you have rooms at the lower levels, you will be climbing stairs up to street and breakfast. The pools have such a great atmosphere! Loved our 5 days here. Just have to be careful of the bugs but staff come around and put bug coils in your rooms before sunset

I had stayed at this hotel's up market relative (pita maha) and loved it. Tjampuhan does not meet the same luxurious standards but 3 night's here is less than 1 in the pita so this is to be expected.

The setting is amazing. The hotel is a little bit out of town but in my opinion this is an advantage. I have read reviews complaining about the amount of steps. If you don't want to stay in a jungle valley above a river, don't book here because there are indeed steps. This is part of the charm.

The rooms are a little tired and whilst I don't care about the lack of television, a fridge would be nice. The staff are very friendly and the shuttle bus is handy.

Overall, I'd love to stay here again. The beautiful surrounds make up for any small short comings.
