I have been staying at Tjampuhan Sap over a ten-year period and the hotel never disappoints. Situated in a beautiful valley by a flowing the key word is "tranquillity". The hotel is buried in the green slopes easy to lose an entire day sitting on the balcony gazing into the lushness. The rooms may not contain as many modern amenities as other hotels, but the absence of a TV is an advantage if you want a truly peaceful experience of all that traditional Bali has to offer. The rooms are well-appointed, with windows facing into the valley and the tiered nature of the buildings provides a sense of privacy which is surprising given the number of rooms. The open-air restaurant is spacious and beautiful, with its intricate carved wood ceiling. The food is tasty and the service is friendly and efficient. The two swimming pools are unique and private and the spa is located beside the river in open-air spaces. This is a truly unique and lovely place to stay.

We had booked this hotel for two nights on our recent visit to Bali. We chose the hotel based on tripadvisor review but the experience was no where near to the current rating.
Our advice, stay somewhere else.

Checkin:
Backpacker hostels have better front desk management. We were asked for our passports and told to take a seat somewhere in lobby. Welcome drink was some sort of sparkling wine, which left me more thirsty than I already was. Room keys were handed over a few minutes later with no welcome brief apart from the location of restaurant and shuttle service into Ubud town. No information was shared about, other facilities like pool, spa, internet access or places of interest close by. The bell boy who helped with the luggage, refused to even move from the place he set down our one small suitcase making it clear that a tip was in order. I did not mind paying the chap, but the way the tip was demanded was jarring to say the least.

Room:
We thought it would be a heritage property. The room was just old, ill maintained, badly lit and bare. Mini fridge was empty, there was no fruit basket or any other eatables. The toiletries (shampoo, conditioner and body lotion) were in reusable ceramic bottles. The bottles looked worn with use over years and we decided we were better off buying from outside. Mattress was well slept in, pillows too hard for comfortable sleep. Room had no TV, no music, no Wi Fi and not even mobile signal to top it all up. Path from the room to lobby and restaurant was not covered and water logged with rain water. The entire property is not stroller, disabled or senior friendly, with uneven slippery steps.

Restaurant:
Barely anything for vegetarians in the menu. Coffee machine was out of service, so either have Balinese coffee or instant coffee. Buffet breakfast no better than backpacker hostel standard save for the live egg counter.

Experience:
The first night, we were pleasantly surprised to see room service had switched on the electric mosquito repellent. However, two ventilators which I could not close, as they were rusted and jammed, allowed all sorts of mosquitoes into the room. We were up the entire night hunting down mosquitoes. The next morning we made a humble and stern request to have the ventilators closed by maintenance before night fall. It was followed up with a reminder in the afternoon. When we came back to the hotel in the night after dinner, we see the ventilators still open. It was going to be another night of staying awake hunting mosquitoes. The front desk could do nothing despite our protest other than to say they did what they could, if there is still a problem we could speak to the manager the next morning. I requested to be transferred to another room. Upon seeing the open ventilators in the replacement room, which was as shabby as our I decided to buy the strongest insect repellent at the near by 24 hr store and slug it out.

Manager (Regim) was made aware of our complaints the previous night by Front Desk (Marini). He was present during our checkout the next morning but did not utter a single word about our stay, forget about concern or apology.

All in all choose this hotel at your own peril. I did not see a single reason to return to the place.

We are so grateful we chose this hotel from among the thousands in Bali for our first experience of this magical island. The locals reserve a special reverence this hotel property of the King of Ubud located near the confluence of the Tjampuhan and Oos Rivers. The locale has been worshiped as a sacred place of beauty for many centuries.

The lucky guest enjoys a many places to relax and repair deep inside theTjampuhan ravine.
A balcony from which you can only see lush tropical greenery, squirrels playing in the trees, butterflys drifting past and hear the sound of the river; A fresh spring swimming pool, water springing from the vase of the goddess; walkways adorned with sculptures from an artistic community that flourished there under the patronage of the King; the Tjampuhan Spa, a carved grotto of warm pool, cold pool, steam room and sauna; Massage and treatment rooms that include you to gazing over the valley floor and watching the water winding on its way; the hotel restaurant that holds a lovely morning light and gives you view along the tops of trees and temples into the distance.

The staff are ever friendly - greeting, smiling and engaging.
We wanted to stay for ever. it felt like coming home to the garden. Thank you Tjampuhan, Thank you Tjampuhan staff.

I arrived at the hotel late at night. It's dark and scary. There is no tv and no tooth brush. When I called the room service to ask about how to get the tooth brush, their sounds was not friendly.
The ceiling is made from wood, because it's old so soft part of the wood going down on the bed. So u need to clean it first before u sleep. The same things happened on ur bath up.
You can enjoy the hotel better in the morning,u can hear the river sounds. The pool is not too big and there is also a spring water pool.
The location is great because it's only takes u about 10 minutes walk to the centre of ubud.

Loved Ubud and this hotel - beautiful grounds - magical. I would recommend any travellers to Bali to go to Ubud to get away from Kuta. Spa was wonderful . Went on a bike tour while we were in Ubud - recommend this as well.

I have been staying at the Tjampuhan hotel ever since I started going to Bali yearly in 2003 & I have to say its one of my favorite hotels on the island. The staff is wonderful & will do whatever they can to make your stay enjoyable. the grounds are beautiful with lush gardens & the location is magical. The hotels restaurant has an awesome view & the breakfast is very good with banana pancakes that are not to be missed. I just recently had dinner there which I had not done on previous visits & found it to be as good if not better than local restaurants. The rooms are clean & spacious but haven't changed since my first visit a decade ago, could use a slight improvement there. The hotels 2 pools are both lovely. The "spring pool" is my favorite pool of any hotel I have stayed at in Bali, & the other pool has been recently refurbished with new tile & some big trees that were shading this pool out were recently removed. Another new addition is a large internet center below the reception area with nice couches to relax on. The hotel is close to shops but if you want to go to Uud center they have a nice shuttle that runs frequently. All in all there are not enough good things to say about the Tjampuhan hotel & spa. The fact that I keep returning every visit speaks for itself.

We stayed for three days and absolutely LOVED the hotel! From the moment you walk into the lobby, the views will absolutely stun you... it was just amazing to be able to look out onto the rain forest every morning! The service was exceptional, with all the staff being super helpful and friendly. Great location, with the free service shuttle making it super easy to get around.

We stayed in Pura 1 which had air conditioning, a fan, and a great balcony. The only thing we could fault was that the shower was abit small.

Can't wait to stay here again!

Room Tip: Stayed in Pura 1, and it had both aircondition and a fan
