“Pros: Beautiful setting, excellent service and free shuttle! Cons: Lots of stairs”
Reviewed 24 August 2009

We stayed at Ulun Ubud for 4 nights in May 2009 and had a fantastic time. The resort is situated in a very beautiful location, just outside the city center. The rooms were very nice and large, but most require going down many sets of stairs. Upon arrival, we had to request a room change as my husband's parents were originally assigned a room "close to ground level" that was 50 steps down (which meant climbing 50 steps to get back out).

Breakfast each morning was delicious and promptly delivered - I would recommend the nasi goreng, coffee/tea and choice of fruit juice. All staff members were very attentive and eager to please.

My favorite aspect of Ulun Ubud was the free shuttle service. It was available at our beck and call, and only once did we have to share with other guests. We took the shuttle to/from dinner, made stops at the local grocery store and went to several evening dance performances. It was like having our own private driver who was free! I would highly recommend Ulun Ubud to anyone looking to stay in Ubud.

Beautiful place and bungalows with lots of traditional Balinese carving and antiques but the whole place is a little old and run down. Needs some attention and maintenance .Rooms are large and nice but dated bathrooms definetely need refurbishing.
Friendly and helpful staff.
Stunning views accross from room terrace
Would definitely be great after makeover.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel situated in a tranquil & picturesque setting. We also very much appreciated the authentic stone Balinese buildings & gardens with views overlooking the jungle. Although we were some way from the centre of Ubud, the hotel were happy to provide guests with a free shuttle anywhere around Ubud and to pick us up when we wanted to return (up to 11:00 pm). This meant we had the best of everything. To top it off, the friendly staff were always there to greet us at reception on our return!

The pool was amazing & we often had it to ourselves. All staff went out of their way to ensure we were comfortable & happy. Breakfasts were a delight & we especially appreciated the outstanding service and care from Maruti, Kuman & the rest of the small staff.

Some rooms are older style so you may want to state your preference - we preferred these, but understand that others might prefer something more modern. The only guests this hotel might not suit would be those with elderly, disabled or very young children due to the steep slope this hotel is built on.

We absolutely loved our stay & Ulun Ubud is a hotel we will return to again & again.

my wife and i spent honey moon there. i highly recommend it. we spent 3 nights there. we had our private bungalow and yard. the room was recently updatd, clean, and the service was impeccable. the only minor complaint was that I am afraid of geckos, and we did have one in the room. I also love the area behind our room, it was an abandoned temple (ruin?). Sandstones are soft and deteliorate fast, so it makes me feel like we are staying in a ruin while enjoying all the modern comfort.

We decided to stay a couple of nights in Ulun Ubud Resort after reading all the good reviews on tripadvisor. Some of our expecations were met, but there were also some drawbacks. The major plus of staying in this resort is the stunning jungle-setting of the resort; the views from the great balcony's and the gorgeous swimming-pool are really amazing!! We also liked the fact that this resort is situated in a more quite part of Ubud. The resort gives you the opportunity to stay in a relaxed environment, and - at the same time - to enjoy the 'hassle' of Ubud with the easy shuttle-service to the 'city-centre'. However, when we stayed at this resort, it was not possible to order a lunch, dinner or drink during the day. This was slighly unconfortable, since this implicated that we had to leave the resort / to go to the centre (with the shuttle) for lunch/dinner. Surprisinly, after a few days, we found out that the ones who stayed on a package-basis in Ulun Ubud (that is, these persons were traveling around by an organised all-inclusive tour) got lunch and dinner in the resort. The manager of the resort told us that the restaurant was not open for 'ordinary' hotel guests like us... (I was quite pissed of about this..). Taking this into consideration, and the facts that the rooms were not really clean and the high price-level of the rooms, I would not stay here again. During our stay in Bali, we have stayed in other places where we got more quality for certainly less money!

A truly wonderful experience. The traditional thatched roof bungalows built into the side of a river bank was a highlight of our trip.Very friendly staff, food was good,a great shuttle service and views of the valley in complete harmony with nature, although our 2 teenagers disliked the silence. At night on the balcony our daughter described it as being in jurrassic park, with all sorts of bugs and jungle noises at work.We recommend this place for the fit and healthy,a perfect honeymoon.

We went to Ulun Ubud for our honeymoon. We stayed at the villa next to the swimming pool and it was as if we were having it all to ourselves. It was exactly how we wanted to spend our honeymoon, quiet and peaceful..and surrounded by trees. If you are looking for a night life, not here. We spent our time there by going to their cultural performances and food hunting which was amazing! The sense of culture in Ulun Ubud is still strong compared to othe places eg. Kuta. We only stayed there for 3 nights and moved to Jimbaran after that. How we regretted moving out of Ulun Ubud!!! I don't know how to say this but we really loved Ulun Ubud and is definitely going to go there again. But mind you, there wasn't any TV in the rooms. Luckily we brought our DVDs and laptop, but that wasn't a major problem. If you want to spend quality time with your partner, this is the place. It is really very peaceful.. The place is original with Balinese antiques and we really love it there! No internet there. Who needs them when you are in this place?

And oh, we have breakfast at the balcony and we loved the peaceful feeling. The view from the balcony is something which you don't see all the time. It is usually quite misty and the morning and the air was really refreshing. Breakfast was so-so, toast or sometimes fried rice was tasteless. However, it wasn't our main concern. Our mission was to explore the local food too, anyway.

The man who manages this hotel was really nice. We emailed him asking about the hotel and he always replies to you personally. Staffs were really polite and helpful. Not many villas (10?) there so I guess it is good so they can concentrate more on their guests needs.

The only downside about this place is the stairs are really high! So you have to really remind yourself if you left anything before you get out of the room.
Definitely going there again. Totally love it.
