“Amazing”
Reviewed 16 September 2012

I have travelled to Bali several times, and this was the first time I have stayed in Ubud. I am so glad that I found this little piece of paradise in the world. It was amazing. The staff were all friendly and attentive they are happy to help and are available to assist, but will give you privacy to relax. The breakfast were beautiful and made by the lovely Ny Noyman who will make eggs or pancakes at your request the menu is extensive! The houses were all beautiful - and everything is taken care of from umbrellas to mozzir repellant. Ketut the owner treats you like family, he is a wonderful host and is happy to provide transport, and let you know of great restuarants as well as places to visit. He made my trip so much better than I could have hoped for, and I am glad to have met him. I would upload photos but I feel it would be unfair to spoil the breath taking moment of being shown your Bali home - I was speechless. Go and check it out, I will be back and telling my friends and family - the pool was AMAZING.

Room Tip: Bambu House!!!!!!

Thankyou to Ketut and all his staff, from the very start while in contact with lisa untill the day we sadly had to leave, they are wonderful helpfull and always happy to help in any way. I have been to bali many times but this is the first trip to bali for my wife, and it couldn't of been better, she has fallen in love with bali as much as me. We will come back and we will bring other family back with us. As i said before in one word "FANTASTIC"

I paid around $210 for three nights in a two bedroom villa (Green House). To me this was really very cheap for a private villa and so I took into stride certain little things that may put people off. If you approach this place with the fact that it's not very expensive and provides a more authentic experience of staying in Bali then this is a great place. If you come here expecting luxury for cheap then you will be very disappointed.... also you have to get used to 'Indonesian ways'!
There was a great little cooling off pool (CLEAN), plus shaded area over two sun lounges and a covered mini area where breakfast is served. You get a hot urn of water every morning for the whole day. There's a little fountain and a double story self contained villa with two single beds below and one double bed upstairs and a open bathroom. There was hot water in the showers, a prep area with a fridge and cutlery/crockery (no stove or oven etc), dvd and tv, fan upstairs and air/con downstairs. I wouldn't recommend anyone sleeping upstairs who can't handle rustic stairs in the dark. There was also a mini lounge upstairs so there were lots of areas to hang out in if there was a family/group staying here.
There's a mini mart and petrol station opposite with plenty of ATMs. Walking towards central Bali is a little bit far but anyone with some sort of fitness and penchant for walking will manage it fine. Plenty of good places to eat on the way in. Jaens spa also on the way into town but was always booked out. Yoga Barn also kind of on the way in.
There's a collection of magazines, brochures and DVDs left from other guests so that's handy! There's also a map. The little PDF guide sent to you when you make a booking was SO handy and I really liked that personal touch. It recommends things to do, where to eat, explains a bit more the villas etc... they also offer a pickup from the airport for a good price so don't be afraid to get them to pick you up which helps you clear the annoying porters and touts at DPS.
Now the little things to watch out for...
1. NOISE. There are dogs and roosters surrounding the area. This is typical for Bali so bring earplugs for when the cockcrow chorus starts in the early morning. Whoever said roosters only crow in the morning doesn't have a clue about the roosters in Bali...
2. The beds are REALLY hard. This is also normal for Asian countries. Didn't get the best sleep...
3. Although there are mossie plugs, coils and nets I still got quite badly bitten by mossies. Again this is fairly normal for Bali. Plus bugs really like me!
4. Breakfast is very small and simple. There's no other drinks than the tea/coffee you get as standard for the day. You get fruit but they ignore you when you request no coconut and no syrup. The option you choose will probably be quite small... buy your own extras from the mini mart and store in the fridge there. You get a big urn of water to refill up any bottles and also some spare ones in the fridge.
5. Ketut is nice and will try to help you but sometimes you feel like he's trying to rip you off just a little bit. (Unfortunately not uncommon when dealing with tourists visiting a poorer country...) Not a lot but you could probably find cheaper drivers yourself for example. He tried to change the price around a bit. Also make sure you plan your own itinerary! However on the plus side he did drop us off and picked us up from the main shopping strip one night for free. Overall it did feel better to support a real family rather than a business/corporation by staying here.
Rest of the staff were quite nice although at any opportunity may try to gently sell you tickets/tours. Just say you already have them booked (unless you want to be sold things). They will also make calls for you from the front office phone if you need to and there's usually someone around the front if you need some help.
6. Small note, I think one of the bigger villas only had plants for part of the fence so people walking to other villas could see into the open areas (garden, pool, downstairs). So it wasn't entirely 100% private but manageable unless you are super paranoid. It was not possible to look into the open air shower areas.

Overall, understanding more what I got myself into, I would stay here again.

We stayed at Bambu House believing it was a private villa, firstly the guest house that was for the use of the guests of the villa was booked out by the owner for 5 days of our stay, so my son and family couldn't stay there. The other thing we were not happy about was that we were not told that the kitchen was used by the staff to prepare the other villas breakfast, staff were there from 7.30 to 10.30 every day, therefore not very private as our bedroom backed onto the kitchen.. The pool turned green, we were told that it was o.k. to swim in, I don't think so and staff argued the point. We stayed here for two weeks and towels were changed once, even then we had to ask. There was a breakdown in communication about picking us up at the airport, I had informed Lisa that we were ok for transport from the airport, but Mr Nyoman turned up at the airport and waited for three hours for us, he was not happy. Overall we were very disappointed with Bambu House.

Ketut Suarsa has asked me to reply to the review from Linda on his behalf. He wishes to advise that he has made some important changes and would like to clarify some situations.
Guests must now make separate individual confirmed bookings for the guest house to save any confusion. A booking in the Bambu house is for it alone .
Each house has a stack of towels with at least two per person. The stack will be renewed daily to reflect this policy.Requests for extra towels will be met immediately.Towels are plentiful.
Ketut is a little puzzled by the breakfast comment.Breakfast is prepared by Ni Nyoman behind a locked door with a separate entry.THere are over 80 comments in the guest book like this......
"Ni Nyoman..beautiful chantic smile.Enuk pancakes every morning and a great sense of humour".
Breakfast at the Bambu house is singled out by all guests as a highlight of Bali Breeze and Ni Nyoman as a super star.Ketut has now prepared an alternate kitchen if the need ever arises again.
The Bambu house pool has green slate tiles on the walls whilst all the other pools have blue tint ceramic tiles. All pools have a constant chlorination system through the use of tablets. Every 7 to10 days they need to be balanced with other chemicals like acid etc. This makes the water cloudy appears green reflecting the color of the green slate on the walls. It takes up to 24 hours for the pool to clear and the pool appears blue as the bottom has blue tint ceramics. This is why fiberglass pools are painted blue to make the water appear blue when in fact it is clear . Linda thought the pool needed more chemicals when in fact it had just had them.
Nyoman made a mistake and went to the airport. Was Nyoman worried yes.Was he angry...never.
Nyoman is Balinese and anger is not an emotion that I have experienced in 70 plus visits anywhere in Bali
Ketut is totally committed to providing the best Bali experience possible and welcomes advise from his customers to improve Bali Breeze. He is in daily contact with everyone and is famous for this request. ...... what is your program today and what can I do to help you?

We have stayed twice at Bali Breeze and cannot say enought about the villas. They are clean ,very tidy, and very comfortable . Ketut is wonderful along with all his staff.

We have just made another enquiry to go and stay for the 3rd time. Lovely restaurants nearby and Ketut will drop off and arrange for you to be picked up and brought back to the villas.

The service is just wonderful and you feel part of the family.

Room Tip: They are all very good.

From the time we were picked up until the time we left Ketut Suarsa and mr and mrs Nyomen were the best. Ketut showed us all things Balinese around Ubud which we wanted and breakfast was terrific, a bowl of fresh fruit and eggs however you wanted them, Whilst there we both were quite sick and nothing was too much trouble for them to take us to the clinic (locally) and offer additional food when we were both laid low. The bungalows are brilliant and very reasonably priced and i would recommend these bungalows to anyone. They are central to the areas of Ubud,
Nothing was too much trouble for any of the family to attend to your needs, to tell you the truth they treated us as one of the family and you don't often find that when you travel away from Australia. The only thing he asks is if you have some old reading books to bring them so he can fill up a library of sorts in each bungalow. Not much in the bigger schem of things. Thank you Ketut and family for a pleasureable stay.
