Description: In December 2011, after the renovation of a disused picture gallery in the small village of Penestanan Kaja, near Ubud, Bali, Cafe Vespa opened its doors to the general public. The space could be described as small, unintimidating and relaxing, with friendly and efficient staff. Our in-house bakery provides fresh bread, croissants and cakes, with the kitchen also cooking up a varied breakfast, lunch and dinner menu. Cafe Vespa prides itself, in what we believe to be one of the best coffees in Bali. We describe it as a velvety, full-bodied, artisan style coffee, prevalent in cafes from London to Australia. Our own 100% Arabica blend of Indonesian Toraja, Aceh Gao and Bali Kintamani is roasted to our specifications and delivered freshly roasted to us each week. For additional freshness each cup is freshly ground and served with the best quality milk. For those who do not do coffee, Vespa also has one of the best choices of teas, both healthy and classic. For the fruit and veggie drinkers there's a great range of sugar and ice-free juices. From a cultural standpoint Cafe Vespa not only provides great food and beverages but also serves as a centre for social interaction: the cafe gives visitors a place to congregate, talk, write, read, entertain one another, or pass the time on an ipad. The WiFi is also pretty good.

Tucked away in Penestanan, this is a handy spot if you're staying in Sayan and looking for a reasonably priced place nearby. It is away from the tourist mayhem in Ubud and has a quirky, laid-back and welcoming atmosphere. The place is quite small and nearly every table was occupied, mainly by travellers using the free wifi, although there was also a sprinkling of chattering expats.

We stopped off for breakfast, and there was plenty of choice, including pastries, fresh fruit and healthy options. We weren't looking for anything exotic, just something to set us up for a long day of travelling. The English breakfast was well cooked and came complete with hot baked beans and HP sauce! Tea was served in a cafetiere, which was a bit odd, as you really can't beat a teapot and a tea strainer when it comes to making a good cup of tea.

The staff were friendly and the service attentive and prompt.

Having been in Penestanan for 3 months & eaten in Vespa a lot I have to say this place has gone downhill. Even when it's empty the staff take so long to take order or bring bill, the food is hit & miss & they are too busy talking to each other to notice anything. I very rarely complain about anything especially in Bali but I really think they need to get it together... It's taken me more than 2 hours to order some musilie (which was basically a few dry porridge oats with raisins chucked in) and then pay! They have to cheek to automatically charge you a service charge....

Avoid and go to Kopi desa instead!

It is a cozy cafe located right at the junction of Penestanan - Sayan , Ubud.
Friendly staffs, good foods(but overpriced).
If you are looking for good coffee - this is the right place
If you are looking for good desserts or cakes - I will not recommend.
They have excellent main courses, I love their Chicken & tofu steak.
Non smoking cafe.
Something I don't like about this cafe is too noisy as it is located right at the main road.
Good jazz music though in the cafe.

Did not eat there but on our way back to the Mansion Hotel, we were threatened by dogs in the street, and the one of the waiters took us back to the hotel on his vespa. What wonderful kindness. We only stayed for two nights or would definitely hang out there as it looks like a cool place.
