Owner description: Dances are merged with stories and history in Bali. Many focus on the Sanskrit epics of India which are literature that convey cultural beliefs and structure. The two most well known are the Mahabharata and the Ramayana. The Ramayana has 24,000 verses and portrays the ideal characters of life such as the perfect servant or father. The Mahabharata, is the longest of them all. I

This Balinese dance just makes you feel good as soon as you watch it.
It is a must see even if you are on a low budget as I was.. Definitely worth it. There is no point in going to Ubud and miss these perormances! The price is fixed for the moment, it costs 80.000rp and you can find people selling tickets on the street everywhere during the evening. Shows start around 7.30 or 8, normally, and last 1.30/2hours

Great show, we arrived late and got in for free. Although we did not understand anything of the storyline, the esthetics of the performance made the story quite convincing. Nice scenery and costumes as well.

Any visit to Ubud is incomplete without witnessing a traditional dance performance. It provides an insight into Balinese culture, with its rich tradition do music, storytelling and dance. The dancers are good as are the musicians. Ubud palace is centrally located so very convenient. There is a large number of seats but for the best positions arrive early before the tour buses. To understand the story I found it useful to read the program before the performance. Tickets are the same price purchased at the door. There is no intermission or break. It was an enjoyable experience watching these graceful dancers

While visiting Bali, Ubud Palace is a major attraction. The Palace itself is a must go and the traditional Balinese dance presentation is considered the top one in Ubud. Just a few hints. Many guys will approach you near Ubud Palace selling tickets for the presentation. You can buy from them and the tickets they sell are valid. Arrive at least half an hour before the scheduled time to get a good seat (otherwise you may have partial view or even to stand up). Wear light clothes: it is an open-air theater and Bali is generally warm. Mosquitoes are all over the place and they really bite: bring a good anti-bug spray. Read carefully the information stamped in the entrance ticket. It will help you to better understand the spectacle based on the Mahabharata hindu epic legend. The presentation lasts approximately 90 minutes. Repetitive music, slow movements and mosquitoes bites may drive you crazy and extremely tired. But it may may be your single opportunity to appreciate Balinese traditional dance at the heart of Bali mountains. Endure the pain and enjoy!
