Owner description: Dances are merged with stories and history in Bali. Many focus on the Sanskrit epics of India which are literature that convey cultural beliefs and structure. The two most well known are the Mahabharata and the Ramayana. The Ramayana has 24,000 verses and portrays the ideal characters of life such as the perfect servant or father. The Mahabharata, is the longest of them all. I

“Well worth a visit”
Reviewed 19 January 2014 via mobile

Suggest you go 15 - 30 mins early to ensure a seat in the front or the side for the best view, very colourful costumes and interesting dancing. A variety of dances and music in the beautiful setting of the palace, may need to take umbrella if looks like rain as it is outdoors. Bug spray useful. A very reasonable price.

“A great introduction to Balinese dance”
Reviewed 11 January 2014

Balinese dance performances are a specialty in Ubud, and well worth checking out. Stop by the official tourist office for a full list of performances, troupes, costs and locations throughout the week.

We were really glad we made it to the Legong dance at Ubud Palace. The show began at 7.30pm and went for 1.5 hours, but felt much quicker than that. It's all outdoors and the palace setting is both central and really lovely. The performance included a gamelan (traditional orchestra) and a range of different dances, culminating in a theatrical "ballet". The costumes were spectacular and the dances quite comedic at times.

Tickets can be bought at the door for 80,000 Rupiah and it's best to arrive early to get good seats. An information sheet is provided so you can follow the different stories as they happen. Highly recommended - a nice night out in Ubud.

“Beautiful dance”
Reviewed 4 December 2013

This Balinese dance just makes you feel good as soon as you watch it.
It is a must see even if you are on a low budget as I was.. Definitely worth it. There is no point in going to Ubud and miss these perormances! The price is fixed for the moment, it costs 80.000rp and you can find people selling tickets on the street everywhere during the evening. Shows start around 7.30 or 8, normally, and last 1.30/2hours
