“Five great days in Ubud”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 May 2014 via mobile

We stayed at Mulawarman's guesthouse during 5 days in July 2013 and we really enjoyed our stay.

We arrived exhausted after traveling throughout Java and visiting the volcanos there. Mulawarman welcome us very warmly with fruits and tea.

We stayed in a garden view room on the ground floor. It was very clean, comfortable and spacious. The guesthouse overall is very quiet.

Food was great as well. Mulawarman is a great cook. We enjoyed her breakfasts as well as the snacks she prepared for us when we traveled for a day. We particularly recommend the green pancakes and the fresh fruits which are simply delicious. Don't hesitate to ask her to cook your dinner, it's also great (especially the Balinese duck) and I can assure that you will be full when you're done.

Mulawarman is eager to share with you her knowledge about Bali. She will advise you on the excursions and things to see. She also brought us to a great non touristic Kecak dance spectacle that we enjoyed a lot. We also had the opportunity to go with her in her village when Balinese people where preparing a cremation ceremony.

The guesthouse is very difficult to find but very well located: in the middle of the rice fields and at a walking distance from the center of Ubud. Don't forget to take a flashlight with you though because the entrance is dark at night.

We recommended the guesthouse to our friends and family and we will definitely stay there whenever we're back in Ubud.

We booked this stay in Ubud as a bit of a splurge on our trip! Our room was small but very pretty and clean! The mosquito net was an ankle saver!! Water pressure is strong and that is so welcome after the weak hostel showers of Kuta!

The walk to the rice paddies is so beautiful and it's quite close! Had an amazing time in her home, it really felt like family!! This is the kind of love we were hoping to find in Ubud!! It is so incredibly beautiful in Ubud and this is an amazing place to stay and see it right.. We do recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing stay in Ubud

Love this place..its homey. Bu Wayan, the owner, is very kind and warm. She welcome and tell the story about the food, history and local information. The food is very delicious and authentic balinese food. The room is nice, peaceful. Eventhough the place is a bit hidden but its very peaceful place.

We were looking for an 'off the beaten path' accommodation in Ubud. As this is our first time to Bali we wanted to experience a true Balinese vacation, not simply the tourist hotspots. We woke daily to a beautiful view of the rice paddies and a wonderful breakfast of fresh fruit and Wayan's amazing pancakes; banana, pineapple and mango. While Mulawarman is down a windy alleyway it is close to town, the rice paddies all the tourist sites and restaurants. Make sure you bring a flashlight as there is no lighting. We couldn't have asked for a more accommodating host. Wayan made her guest house our home for the past 7 days and we left feeling like family.

Room Tip: Top floor facing the rice paddies and stunning sunrises

This is a wonderful place in Ubud, a home from home, down a small path away from the hustle and bustle. A range of rooms, recommend going for the superior ones which are much roomier, lighter and nicely decorated. Ibu Wayan is a lovely hostess who really makes you feel at home and will take good care of you, with advice and all the help you need (transport, bookings etc). The breakfast pancakes are fantastic.

My one concern is that the walk along the unlit path to get to the guesthouse can be a bit daunting at night and you have to take a torch. You get used to it but it would be great if the path was lit up at night.

A lovely stay and I look forward to coming again.

I stayed at Mulawarman, Ubud for 2 nights in their jungle view rooms and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. I was traveling alone for the first time and I found the staff led by the lovely owner Wayan, extremely helpful and friendly. They were really helpful in arranging transport, tours and they also sent a masseuse to my room, instead of me walking all the way to a spa. Breakfast (banana pancake, fresh fruits & tea) was lovely and Wayan can also arrange for meals, if you pre-order. Overall I really enjoyed living at Mulawarman and would definitely come back here if I want to visit Ubud again.
