Pros:
Location: very near to monkey forest and all the shops
Breakfast: Good quality and quantity
A very convenient shuttle service to anywhere within ubud
Complimentary tea available daily

Cons: Rooms: It's new and clean, but I think for it does not match for the price it charges. My personal opinion, after staying a few places in Bali. Bed: hard

My wife and I stayed in Alaya Resort Ubud from 5-8-June 2013 (3 nights). It was our 1st time to stay in Ubud. When we arrived at the hotel, I never thought that the location is so strategic. It is near the main road (Hanoman and Monkey Forest), but not in the middle of it. Since we rented a car, the two way road in front of the hotel made us easier to travel around the city (although most of the time we walked, especially in the morning and evening). It's almost next to Bebek Bengil, and very close to monkey forest.
When we arrived, our car was well taken care of by the staff on duty, our check-in process was very smooth, and we directly enjoy the excellent afternoon tea: hot chocolate for my wife and hot cappucino (my fave during our visit), and warm traditional cakes. Overall, the staff services' were excellent from the day we arrived, until the day we left.
We stayed in an Alaya Room 327, located at the very back of the hotel, facing the swimming pool, spa, and rice fields. Beautiful view. It was quite and peacefull back there. Birds chirping and cockerel roosting in the morning. Frog voices at night. Nice.
We had a complete set of breakfast. Our fave was a complete set of fruits, yoghurt, juices, coffee and tea, and a basket of warm bread and pastries. We tried different main course everyday, our fave was the egg and sausages menu. We didn't quite fond of the Indonesian menu, since the taste were not as 'strong' as the regular one that we usually have. Probably because the hotel try to adjust the ingredient to suit it with tourists from other countries. But we could have other menu, so not a problem.
A little input related to our room door. The hotel should probably fix the door, since we could not lock the door from inside. We could forced to use the lock in the above, but not the lock on the handle. We reported it to the staff, but suggested to put the 'do not disturb' sign in front of our door. However, we double checked the door, it still locked from the outside. So, it was fine.
Ubud is a wonderful place to visit. We definitely will comeback. And it would be our great pleasure if we could stay in this hotel again.

We spent here 2 nights at the beginning of May, nice hotel with a quite pool with lovely rice fields view, friendly staff.
The negative notes are the breakfast service very slow , we waited 30 minutes for having it and the sala was quite empty. Internet connection was a nightmare , every time you want to use internet you have to log on and insert password and username , even if you stopped surfing 5 minutes before and very often even during internet connection. Our room, ad the middle of the building , was quite noisy in the morning , most of the times this depended from the cleaning and maintenance staff who talked loud in a early morning time ! this is a clear message that the manager still needs to work much.

Opened since January 2013, this hotel is centrally located in Ubud and close to most of the tourist attractions/food within the area (within walking distance). Monkey forest is 200m away. There is a huge mart next to the hotel to stock up your groceries. Bebek Begil is less than 10m away.

I was a little intrigue by the hotel room design (standard room). The bedroom and shower areas are connected as one, and a small enclosed area for the toilet bowl. It's certainly an ideal couple room but may not be ideal if you're sharing with someone else /family members. Because of its design, room looks huge and you have a small personal area (balcony) outside your room. Beds are clean and comfortable. TV with a good variety of channels, safe, refrigerator is available in the room. The 'Do-not disturb / Please make up room sign" is very unique.

Service by ubud standards is really good and staff takes time to explain about your room as you enter it. Wifi is complimentary but needs improvement, frequent disconnections. Speeds are satisfactory.

Tea was served in the late afternoon at the reception /front area of the hotel. Breakfast was included in my room package. Good selection of local menus (made to order rather than buffet) with views of the padi fields. Can be a bit warm if you sit in the open area in the morning after sunrise!

This hotel does not give you the full serenity of a typical ubud stay (with padi fields all over, birds chirping in the morning - cause its located on a main road!); but it is very strategically located to give you access to many places. Take advantage of the shuttle service offered by the hotel (free). Ubud palace is roughly 10 minutes by car (due to traffic!)

When I booked this place it was on a huge discount which was really worth it, but I won't be paying full price for this place.

Room Tip: If you choose rooms far away from the road, it is certainly more quiet; but it can be quite a walk from your room to the lobby

My husband Aaron Jones and I are spending our last night here after a week. This is our first hotel in Bali and though I was at first put off by how modern and seemingly sterile it was when wet arrived 40 hours after leaving our home in the States, once settled, we greatly appreciated its superior level of comfort and services. We have a superior suite that has a fabulous view overlooking the neighboring rice paddy - the frogs were in full chorus when we arrived at 11 pm our first night! Even though there is some construction still going on, we experienced a lot of privacy. The bed and linens are the highest quality and the breakfasts are varied and bountiful.
The service is perfectly delightful and though we look forward to other hotel experiences in the next 5 weeks we are in Bali, we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here at Alaya and would recommend it!

Room Tip: I would make sure you get a room on the top floor - much better view!
