“Every comfort in prime position”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2013

We chose Alaya for our 5 night stay purely on previous guests' feedback. This proved to be an excellent guide, and we are pleased now to recommend Alaya to all future Ubud visitors. The staff were exceptionally friendly without being intrusive and our deluxe room provided every comfort and was spotlessly clean. The hotel is ideally placed next door to a comprehensive Countdown, and the hotel staff were relaxed about providing extra plates and cutlery for our convenience. Ubud centre is very difficult to get around because of the broken footpaths to walk on, so it was important to have everything a tourist needs without having to walk any distance to get it. Breakfasts were not good for me being gluten-free. I would have preferred a self-service breakfast arrangement with more western options.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms are on the centre level and afford excellent views without having to climb stairs

My partner and I decided to have a weekend trip to Ubud for last weekend and after looking at several places online via Agoda, I decided to settle for Alaya Resort purely on the basis of the online reviews i have read. We arrived quite late on a Friday night and we were greeted with a big smile. The resort is just a walking distance to the busy street of monkey forest road, about 10-minutes walk and youre up down the road for shopping. The staff have been anticipating our arrival since we didnt let them know what time we will arrive. Check in was very smooth and we quickly settle in the Alaya room we booked and we were put on the 3rd flr at the end part of the resort so it was very quite and just perfect. The room is nicely done, 40 sqm i think and they did a good job in using this thick curtain to cover the shower area instead of making a wall partition to make the whole room looks big, nicely done I would say. The king size bed is just very comfortable to sleep with, I'd say my partner loves it so much (hes quite picky when it comes to be mattress hardness and softness) as well as comfortable pillows. You also have the option for a ceiling fan and AC inside the room. The balcony is overlooking to the nice paddies which is the charm of Ubud and a great joy to look at every morning while sipping your tea or coffee and enjoying the morning sun. The Patana restaurant serves the breakfast (ala carte) as well as their all day dining restaurant and food was good. Pool is nicely done (done by the same people who did Four Season Jimbaran and St Regis) as what Ive read in a magazine, never used it but only hang out there late afternoon to laze around and relax. We didnt manage to use the spa since there was a wedding function on the day we wanted to try it and was advice it will be noisy since the reception will be held on top of the area (what a shame). Generally the staff are very friendly and courteous with a big smile they wear with them always and always ready to engage into conversation. Highly recommended this place for anyone who will visit Ubud area.

Despite the chaos of check in process, we move 3 times and got upgraded to the Alaya Suite, must say the service from all staff were excellent! Putu from front desk, Arini in guiding how to get to BigTree chocolate factory.

The hotel is next to big supermarket and paddy fields, nice pool for kids. Only 5 minutes walk to Monkey Forest.

Choose room close to pool if you have children.

Staff were great. Room was beyond expectation. Position was where we wanted to be - close enough to the centre activities, but far enough to be secluded. Having a good restaurant and a supermarket next door were bonuses. Hotel food was slightly pricey, but good. Loved the music in the lobby and restaurant, but could not purchase a copy as it was "off the net". Very relaxing and enjoyable. More suited to romance than family

Room Tip: Ground floor have better balconies open to the rice fields and pool/spa. Upper floors may be quieter...

I want to start with that we have stayed at the hotel for 2.5 weeks and we have a good stay in Alaya The hotel is new. The room (220) is nice, but there are some things which we found negative. For example, the fridge was barely cool. We have to put the fridge outside the cabinet so that it could cool. It is unfortunate that the area in the shower is not better utilized. There is a plant right in the middle of an area which could be better used. For example the towels could have a nice spot in these space. The toilet flushed every hour by itself, in the 2.5 weeks we where in the room, they could not find a solution to the problem. In the shower there are delicious shampoo and other things for hair and body. The bed is wonderful. But the rooms are quite noisy and the door shut very loud, so you wake up regularly of neighbours closing there doors. The pool is nice, but there are very few loungers, and there were loungers without cushions. Also there are a also only a few seats at the poolbar. The planting around the pool is not as nicely it can be, there are many dead areas. These are the negative things we have experienced. The positive things are that the staff are too sweet for words, they will help you with everything they can. From the front desk to the pool, the staff will make your stay at the Alaya a great success. This hotel will be able to rise to great heights thanks to this staff. The restaurant looks nice and the food is good, not to expensive. Breakfast is good and plentiful. You can have lunch both at the pool and in the restaurant. And there is room service till deep in the evening. The restaurant has regular live music in the evening, great singers and lots of fun. There is a lot of staff at Alaya to keep it clean. Hopefully they can improve hiccups that I have indicated, so the next time we stay in Alaya. So the stay will be even better.

Room Tip: Choose a room at the end overlooking the pool.

Stayed in Alaya was my fabulous experience. Thanks to my husband who gave me this beautiful present. Love the king size bed, comfy pillow and magnificent room. Surprisingly extraordinary bathroom... Only curtain devides bathroom and bedroom...Wow it's cool!!

For all the stafs, from receptionist, cleaning service, room service to the restaurant crew...they were very nice, friendly and helpful. No matter how rushed the breakfast time was...they always served us with a big smile.....thanks guys!! The breakfast with ala carte menu was my first experience, good but i think the hotel management should have some additional waitress to handled many guests specially in rushed breakfast time on that high occupancy hotel. Thanks.
