“Great resort for holiday”
Reviewed 24 January 2014

After reading so many reviews on tripadvisor, we decide to book Alaya for our short holiday. We book directly through the hotel reservation as cheaper than other booking sites. We receive great service from the check in until the check out. Front office staffs were very good. Check in process was fast although we have to wait for for the room, but the resort was so nice that we decide to wait in the lobby enjoying cold towel and welcome drink. Staff took us to the room and explain everything, which was very good.

Room, especially the bed is huge. There's no wall for the bathroom, only the curtains but that's no problem. Everything was working properly and in very good condition. We have all from hair dryer, mosquito repellent, tea facilities, shopping bag etc. Internet from the room was good.

View from the room is paddyfield which was very relaxing just to sit on the balcony and enjoy the view. It's very nice waking up in the morning to see this view.

We got afternoon tea to enjoy accompany by local pastry and cakes. I was amazed that they offer not only regular tea or coffee, but we can choose many types of tea and latte, cappuccino, or espresso. The coffee was very good.

Swimming pool was very nice and quiet so it's nice to relax by the pool.

The best thing is breakfast, it's a'la carte breakfast but they give everything beside the main course from fruits, juice, yoghurt, any kind of coffee and tea, pastries/bread. I like the juice, it's from the best freshest fruits.

Didn't try the spa, but i see the spa place was very nice.

I love the toiletries especially shower gel, it's not the usual commercial products, it's vanilla and rosemary (if i'm not mistaken). Too bad I forgot to ask where can I buy the shower gel. It was really good and relaxing.

Sure I want to go back.

Room Tip: Choose higher level to face paddy fields, or ground level to face the swimming pool.

You won't find this little gem in any guide book.

5 star service, 5 star rooms and a fantastic view of the paddy fields. I was pretty disappointed with Bali in general, but this hotel met all my expectations and exceeded them.

Waking up every morning to a wonderful breakfast, and also coming back to the hotel to their tea time break was a treat.

Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing both the pool and the paddy fields so you get a room right at the back which a...

I would highly recommend the Alaya. This was our first few nights in Bali and was the most amazing experience. Staff were extremely helpful and accommodating to our requests whether it was about their culture , food on the menu or sightseeing. One reason to go back to Bali for me would be so I can have a few nights at the Alaya. Service overall was amazing staff were absolutely beautiful and helpfull. Can't say enough.

I booked and paid for 6 nights - 2 in so far ....pre paid a shuttle pick up with the hotel US $40 dollars or so
On arrival check in laboriously slow my room wasn't ready
( till 4pm) Booked a king bed - room had 2 x singles ( could be rearranged ) my room was on the ground floor next to the pool
On opening the curtains I had zero privacy - rooms are studio style
So unmanageable - if I used the bathroom / shower - or wanted privacy I would have to close the curtains - I felt like a prisoner - asked to move rooms and was told nothing else was available - upgrade or no upgrade -on instance - an upgrade appeared - top floor at additional $50 ++ per night - upstairs rooms are the same layout with the addition of a nice Big stone bath and a balcony with pleasant views -much preferable to downstairs - the rooms are overall adequate . Bed is very comfy rooms appear to have a little luxury in styling - a little lacking- no seating inside - no iPod Dock- thin walls -
I am finding it noisy -
Facilities
had 2 hours of massage @ the Massage center appears well run :staff are skilled .stylish comfortable rooms - quality products
Would recommend
The pol area is tight and the pool small - overall the feeling is of needing more grounds or space it's all such a tight fit
The restaurant is appealing -contemporary design- no critique on the menu ( so far only b/fasts)
breakfast service is slow & erratic -fresh pineapple juice was canned / bottled - returned -fresh arrived- waited half an hour for service only 6 other people at breakfast - eggs arrived 2 minutes after fruit - order coffee 3 times prior to getting it - oh hair on my omelette - can happen anywhere - no apologies -I would have like a second coffee - but gave up waiting-little things like getting my own salt and pepper - I feel a bit nit picky and indulgent -
Wifi erratic ( poor)
My overall review is it's Ok
Would I recommend NO

We were delighted with our 4 day stay at the Alaya. The hotel is in a great location, round the corner from the Monkey Forest and next door to the Yoga Barn, and it's only a short walk to the shops. The hotel is beautifully decorated, and the communal areas (reception and restaurant) are open plan. The bedrooms are very big, air conditioned with super king size beds. The shower and toilet (frosted glass door) are separated by a large curtain - we stayed as a couple so it wasn't a problem, but some might not feel overly comfortable about the lack of privacy. Our room was on the second floor overlooking the pool and rice paddies and had a big balcony with a table, chairs and comfy cushioned sofa-type seating. The staff were extremely attentive and couldn't do more for us - they also popped in to switch on the mosquito plug every evening. The spa is also well worth a visit. Treatments are not cheap by Bali standards, but there's lots to choose from, the treatment rooms are lovely and you're given complementary tea and biscuits at the end. We ate in the restaurant almost every day. The food was superb. Lots of choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And they're more than happy to serve food in the room. Would highly recommend.

We loved our stay at Alaya. The hotel is very conveniently located near the Monkey Forest and all the great shopping and restaurants at Ubud. The staff is very warm and friendly and helped us with all our activities. The room was good the downside is the bathroom is not separate but open which is a problem if travelling with children. The hotel itself has good breakfast and has a set menu. I would only suggest that they add more vegetarian options. The quality of service for a hotel only a year old is remarkable. They were very helpful and concerned when my son was sick. Overall great hotel and would come back another time.

Room Tip: We were given a room at the end as it was quieter. However it was a bit of walk when the kids were ti...
