“Second time and still great!”
Reviewed 27 April 2014

This is my second time staying at Alaya... first time was while travelling solo and this time I visited with friends...
We chose rooms on the ground floor with direct access to the pool and we really preferred it to those on the second or third floor...
We noticed that the main street was busier than previous times, but rooms at the end of the hotel were still quite quiet...
Hotel is still strong, still great service, amazing food, fantastic spa (great value for money!) and the pool are is truly truly stunning...
Certainly looking forward to my next visit to this magical place...

Room Tip: I prefer the rooms on the ground floor, right at the end of the compound and by the pool... but all...

I went there with my wife for a 4 day 3 night trip. The service was great, their staff are warm and friendly. The resort is located in central ubud, so it was really convenient to walk around, grab some food on the way, or do some light shopping.
In terms of the facilities, the swimming pool is really great. We had a great time there. We also went for a massage session which is really fantastic. The presentation of the massage was world class and you wouldnt want the one hour to end.
I guess one thing I really like is the flexibility of their service. We requested for an afternoon tea at the pool side and they brought the whole teapot and snacks to suit our request. We also requested a change of location for the romantic dinner, and we ended up having our dessert at the poolside while dipping our feet inside the pool.
Overall it was a great experience. Definitely a place where we would like to visit again in the future.

Stayed in UBUD 3 days.....comfortable and quiet rooms, perfect for my son and I in our travels through Bali. Excellent service. The best breakfast and service out of all our 9 places we stayed in Bali. Location perfect for early morning walks in UBUD, very central to tourist spots and great shopping. The spa, Dala, was the absolute best throughout our trip` worth every penny!!! just wish we had more days there.

with easy access to Ubud main attractions. The rooms were very comfortable with excellent decoration taste, and views of the rice paddies. The staff was very polite, and very helpful. The only disadvantage was the lobby being in the main road, the first impression when u arrive u think its going to be noisy, but the rooms are all the way to the back, and therefore very quiet. Breakfast was nice, but as it was fixed menu, limited options, buffet would be preferable to meet all tastes. Last but not least, the afternoon tea was such a treat!!!

We stayed at the Alaya Resort for 2 nights in March. The resort is luxury redefined with very friendly and accommodating staff. We had requested an airport pickup and we had a very pleasant hotel staff member pick us up, armed with scented wet towels and water. The rooms are very comfortable although I would have preferred a normal bathroom instead of a shower area with a mini garden next to it with a huge vase in its midst. The room overlooked paddy fields and there was a pathway which led to the swimming pool. The pool is a bit small so early morning would be recommended if you are looking to swim without bumping into others.
The location of the resort is very convenient with a spa right in front of it, a mini mart next to the hotel and the monkey forest a 5-7 minute walk away. There are a line of shops for you to browse your way though as you stroll down the streets. The weather is very hot during the day and it is advisable to step out after 3 pm. The food is good (we only tried the breakfast). There is music in the evening hours. Overall it is a great place to go and relax.I would definitely return in future.

Room Tip: We had a room on the ground floor facing the paddy fields. It was wonderful and quiet.

The Alaya is an ok hotel. Pluses: rooms were clean, location was good and pretty central (near beautiful Monkey Forest), restaurant looked nice (though we didn't eat there). Minuses: service was less than professional (we had one extra person, and though they eventually let us add them to our room, they made us wait a long time at check-in before they approved it and were rude and mocked one of our party - a terrible way to begin our stay!), our room had a view of a very large and ugly, neon-lit supermarket across the way (which isn't included in any of their idyllic pictures), bathrooms were separated from rest of room by a curtain - not very private. Our friends stayed at a much nicer place nearby for less money - definitely do your research before booking the Alaya!

My wife and I spent 5 nights at the Alaya Resort. The staff, which is consistent in Bali, was very polite, friendly, and helpful. The food at the resort was alright and the value was good. Actually the best part of Alaya was the location. A reasonable massage place right in front of the resort, a grocery and restaurants in close proximity. The market is walkable, but I would advice doing it during the cooler parts of the day. The beds are kinda too soft for my comfort and the room and bathroom are divided by a curtain. Beside the shower is a space consuming rock garden with a huge vase in the middle. The reason for it's presence leaves me wondering. No fitness facilities which is quite a drag. So if a daily workout is part of your regimen, bring TRX straps, and hope you find a sturdy tree or door to anchor them. they do have a very narrow 10/15 meter pool. so 50 laps might burn you a few calories, but do it early in the morning, as it gets tight when other guests are swimming. But overall, I will definitely consider staying in this resort on my next visit.

Room Tip: Get a room away from the pool for more peace and quiet. Ask for a balcony that opens to the rice fie...
