We stayed at Alaya for 4 nights and sincerely wished we could have extended our stay. The grounds are stunning, with the view of the adjacent rice fields making you feel like you aren't in the hustle and bustle of the city.

Alaya is located steps from lots of delicious restaurants, shops, and, of course, Monkey Forest. We could not have asked for a better location from which to explore the city. It is also conveniently located right next to a very large grocery store, which made it easy to pick up water, snacks, etc.

Our ground-floor room was very spacious, and we particularly loved our giant shower that almost had a room of its own with a huge planter next to it. I really wish that our room had a bathtub, if only to order one of the luxurious in-room baths that the spa offers. Nevertheless, I did really enjoy the natural bath products, soap and lotion in the room, a far cry from the usual cheap synthetic products in other hotels. The beds were super comfortable and everything was spotless, with daily turn-down service ensuring that we always came home to a fresh-feeling room.

I also loved that the hotel had a complimentary shuttle to ferry us around the city. The driver was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, suggesting other sights and restaurants that we should check out.

Indeed, all of the staff members that we encountered were exceptionally pleasant, patient and helpful. We called about everything from forgetting the wi-fi password (twice!), to having trouble ordering a pizza, to renting DVDs (free at the front desk, albeit limited to mostly action movies) and more, and were always greeted by staff willing to go above and beyond for us.

We took advantage of the giant terrace outside our room - including a large table and comfy chaise-lounge - and ordered delicious room service breakfast twice. Worth every penny, the fresh-squeezed juice and assorted pastries made for our best breakfasts in Bali.

I highly recommend Alaya for a spa retreat feel in the heart of a busy and fun city. We were very sad to leave and would certainly return in a heartbeat.

We stayed for 6 nights in Alaya Resort Ubud and had a great experience. We upgrade to the Alaya room which had a great view on the rice fields and a great bath. We found the staff really helpful and professional. The award winning spa in the resort was quite overpriced we thought. We ended up going for a massage most evenings at "Magic Fingers" just across the street. You can choose between Asian, Western, or Healthy breakfast and they changed the breakfast menu a few times avec the 6 days we were there. Room service can be a bit slow if you order in the evening whilst the restaurant is open. But overall, Alaya exceeded our expectations and even made a special effort and special setup in the room for my birthday (as requested by my wife but a nice touch!).

Room Tip: Alaya rooms on the top floor are very nice.

Excellent bed with all facilities in the room that work, the air conditioning was quiet and efficient. We had ground level room, at back of hotel near the spa and metres from the pool. Breakfast tasty and well-cooked. We stayed as a couple and even though though families with children were throughout hotel we didn't notice any noise or intrusions, it worked well.
Quiet and restful, but step out the front of the hotel to be hit with busy Ubud traffic.
Next door is supermarket for snacks, beer, groceries. Right opposite hotel entrance lovely massage shop called Magic Fingers, extremely well-priced with friendly staff who do a marvelous job, especially Asti.
Front of hotel turn left and walk about 50 metres and great Tavern, The Melting Pot, for beer watch NRL or AFL or a game of eightball. Hotel also near good restaurants and the walking distance to the naughty monkeys of the monkey forest.

Room Tip: Get rooms at back towards the spa, away from road traffic

This is the second time we have stayed at Alaya and it won't be the last. The rooms are wonderful, beds very comfortable, location perfect and staff amazing!!! Alaya is in a great location being a short walk from Monkey Forest and a nice slightly longer meander to the markets. I love the rice paddies outside our balcony :-)

We stayed in this gorgeous hotel for two nights. What I loved most is that it is located right in the heart of Ubud, however it has been so well designed that you almost feel that you are away from all the hustle and bustle. They have gorgeous rice fields next door that they maintain for a beautiful view and the block is quite long and narrow so the rooms which are all towards the back of their land are very quiet an peaceful. All the staff were so very friendly and looked after us so well that we didn't want to leave. They have a delicious healthy menu at the Dala Spa which was perfect for my friend and I who were trying to eat well while on holiday. The room was gorgeous and had the most beautiful bath. They even have a bath menu where you can choose what type you would like and the ladies from the spa come up and run it for you. I loved this hotel and if you want to be close to Ubud, this is by far the place to stay. Thank you to all the Alaya staff for an outstanding hotel stay, we loved it :-)

Room Tip: Make sure you get one with a bath... you won't be disappointed.

Fantastic hotel. We had a third floor room with balcony overlooking the pool. The rooms are nicely laid out with plenty of space. The shower and bath area can be cordoned off with a shower curtain but if you are travelling with someone from whom you want some privacy these rooms aren’t going to give you that, they are more suitable for couples. The ground floor rooms have a patio area the walkway to the pool, Spa and some rooms runs directly passed so they have less privacy than the higher ones.

Sometimes the big baths in Asia are unusable as the water is slow to fill the area and by the time it does it can be cold but the ones in the Alaya fill quick and remain hot. There is a bath menu for a small charge around £10 you can have a bath run with different fragrances and flowers.

The Spa in the Alaya is the best I have ever been to. I had a facial and a massage – its more expensive than on the streets but very worth it. The treatment rooms are huge and nicely decorated, the ingredients used to cleanse the feet before any treatment are fresh – flowers, fruit, herbs and spices are used. The setting is very relaxing you can select the firmness of the treatment for both I chose firm and the facial and massage was very strong. I went late on in the afternoon which meant it was dark when I was being served the after treatment tea and you can sit and hear the night creatures its very peaceful.

The Alaya runs yoga classes for free on set days we took one of these and as beginners both found it to be just challenging enough. We also used the bikes (at a cost of $10 each a day) to cycle around Ubud and where able to get up to the rice fields and local areas by doing this. It is quite hilly though.

The pool was always fairly quiet we never had a problem getting seats although there are limited ones around the pool but people seemed to spend a few hours here only so there was always availability.

We ate in the hotel one night the food was very good and not overly expensive if you compare it with some of the restaurants in Ubud such as the Kebun. The Breakfast we found to be very good some reports have said that the choice was limited but each day the menu changed however the western menu did remain fairly the same, the others Asian, Health and Continental ones had many different selections the lattes are the best we had in Bali. The Restaurant opens up onto the street so its great for feeling like you are in the action. There is a small childrens paddling pool at the entrance to the restaurant so if you have small children you can have a drink or a meal whilst keeping an eye on them in the pool.
The staff were lovely, very helpful and always smiling. The Service is excellent.
A big supermarket is right next door. With Monkey Forest Road just across from the hotel.

Room Tip: second and third floor rooms slightly more private as no-one is walking past your windows
