“Wonderfull stay”
Reviewed 8 April 2012

We stayed in here for 3 nights in november 2011. We had a room with balcony(big, around 4x4 m) which had a great view on the rice paddies. The room was really nice and big. The bathroom was partially open, which means you could shower under the sky!(the rest was under a roof including a seperate bathtub). But the best thing was the friendly service, people were always available for questions, the breakfast(which was lovely) could me brought on to the terras. Also the shuttle service from and to Ubud was top(Although a walk along the Monkey forrest to the hotel should be done at least once!(in daytime)). Is Alam Jiwa a 5-star-resort, no luckily not! You should go here if can appreciate the natural environment, want a peacefull place away from the noise of Ubud, and appreciate an individual approach. Would stay here again!

There have been so many wonderful reviews of this small hotel that I don't think that I can really add anything as everything has already been said.
Our room was gorgeous with a huge, very comfortable bed, wonderful balcony, beautiful bathroom, all with incredible views.
The staff is great. They deliver a fantastic breakfast to your room if you ask. The shuttle service is superb. They took us to the Sayan River Valley during the day and into town at night.
The pool is wonderful for cooling off and afternoon tea can be served poolside.
The hotel setting is sublime with rice-paddy and volcano views.
The massages at Alam Shanti were very good.
We researched a lot of hotels in the Ubud area, many of which were a lot more expensive, but were overwhelmed with our stay at Alam Jiwa.
We would highly recommend and would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: All the rooms looked lovely.

What a special place, we really loved it here and the staff was really great too. Our room was large and we had a great big patio overlooking the rice fields. There is no tv in the room which was fine with us since we new this a head of time and had movies on our tablet to watch before bed, but it might be a problem with some with kids on holiday with them. The bathroom was big and nice as well my only sugjestion whould be that they add a fan to the bathroom as it got very hot in there. The hotel grounds are sooo nice, magical even with water terraces, lilys and lightning bugs. The location is on the other side of the monkey forest and we enjoyed our walks to the shops and restaurants via the monkey forest. Also there are several wood and craft shops on the way from the hotel to the monkey forest that had really nice carvings at much better price than in town. There is also a small store at the end of the street leading to the hotel that was good for getting cheap drinks and snacks. The hotel has a driver to take you and pick you up in town if you need and breakfast was also provided and it was great too. I wish we had skipped the beach all together and stayed at Alam Jiwa longer.

Fisrt oerseas holiday and our first 3 nights were spent at Alam Jiwa.
WOW!!
spectacular views over the rice paddy fields.
Peaceful oasis
Driver available all day til 10pm at night to get you into Ubud.(just allow 30 minutes for the driver to be avalable as often already out on a trip with other guests.) we also used the free shuttle service to go to laka leke restuarant and also Cafe Warung and Ubud markets.
we stayed in Cendrawsih Suite and Angsa Room. Our family consisted of 7 people.

Cendrawsih consists of 3 levels, below ground is the dining room and kitchen which seats 7 comfortably . middle floor is a king bed and couch and balcony. top floor has an open sitting area and couch and roof top garden, also an outdoor shower looking over the rice fields, there is a king bed and plenty of room for an extra bed.. This is the best room int eh house, however does not have airconditioning. My husband and I decided to stay in the middle bedr which is separated only by a curtain, yet has a great airconditioner. staff did provide and additional fan upstairs. However our children found upstairs very comfortable without airconditioning.
Angsa room was divine, king bed, beautiful outdoor shower and marble bathroom and a beautiful verandah area, airconditioned.
breakfast was the best we had in bali, from fresh fruit juice, banana pancakes, omletes, eggs, toast etc. We ate most mornings in the suite , breakfast brought in by 4 helpers, all smiling and ready to help.
The main pool is divine.
Staff were extrremly helpful. our daughter needed to visit a doctor and staff were more than ready to drive us immediatley.
Definatley paradise found.
only problem we experienced was a terrible smell and leaking water from the middle toilet in Cendrawsih which was not repaired during our stay. However this was tolerable as we were deifiately in paradise.

Room Tip: Book well in advance as all their hotles fill 12 months in advance,(Alam jiwa; Alam Shanit and Alam...

My boyfriend and I stayed for our first 4 nights in Bali in the middle of March 2012. It was a bit of a splurge compared to our other accommodations however I would happily do it again. In fact if I am able to one day go back to Ubud there is no other place I would stay at! The service was amazing. Any needs were met with a smile and with speed. The walk is a bit of a distance but the staff is very helpful at getting you back and forth from town when you need it. The room was very comfortable and I loved the breakfast view from our deck. If you can get a room, you won't be disappointed!

My husband and I stayed here for 3 days in March 2012. We were booked into the Kenari, but due to roof repairs (and/or renovation?) we were put into the Caswary instead. Overall, we both really enjoyed the Alam Jiwa. The service was excellent, the staff friendly and warm, and you can tell they have been doing this for some time. Everything runs smoothly. I appreciate the location, which is out of town, but close enough to get picked up or dropped off easily. It's quiet, though the stream below our room got quite noisy after the rain.

The design and decor are charming. The bed was very comfy, the room is sizeable, the tub is really comfortable too. Each morning we would open the curtains and enjoy the view. The verandah is large and comfortable, with lots of seating, and we spent a lot of time there, as it is bright and inviting. My husband thought that the large cushioned covered daybed on the porch was the best spot in the whole room. The breakfasts are fantastic, with plenty of choices, and lots to eat.

Only a few things weren't quite what I like, but they are not enough to stop me from recommending the hotel. The room is darker than I like during the day, we prefer to have food and drinks (including alcohol) available at the pool, and there is limited open communal space to relax in. If food and drinks (other than coffee, tea, and water) are readily available near the pool, it's not made clear. The 2 restaurants associated with the hotel are at 5-15 minutes away (by car) and the spa, although walking distance, is a 15-20 minute walk.

I may return to Bali for the sole purpose of staying at this hotel again. Service is understated, warm. Physical environment is lush, green, comforting. Rooms are comfortable, spacious, clean. Breakfasts enjoyable. It's a bit of a walk to town, but the hotel is very accommodating with rides.
