“Chic Resort Overlooking Temples & Rainforest Hills”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 August 2014

We pulled into the resort in the evening, the temple complex it overlooks was mid celebration with Balinese music and colorful worshipers (which you can visit), and the Resort was sparkling from a recent rain... a Magical introduction to this Oasis.

My family and I were escorted to our two suites (one a Garden Suite overlooking the pool and expanse of rain forested hills, the other a Pool Garden Villa that fronted the pool on one side and stepped rice terraces on the other). Both were picture perfect with swagged bed netting and spa-like bathrooms.

The Resort is nestled atop the Hills and close to Pura Tirta and Gunung Kawi, my favorite temples/sites to visit and not too far from Ubud itself. Exploring the temple across the street/down the hill amidst colorful locals was a joyous surprise. The staff was ever friendly, the restaurant delicious - Truly a remarkable experience.

Room Tip: I Highly recommend either the Garden Suites with balconies overlooking the rain forest hills and poo...

I stayed at Puri Gangga Resort for 5 days. For the price, it was definitely worth it. It was the kind of small villa hideout I truly imagined to be in Ubud. It is very Ubud, meaning, you feel right at home in Ubud staying here. The hotel was very nice, it was clean, proper, peaceful and the service was very good too. What I like most is the villa design which is as close to nature you can get. I like the room, the pool and the breakfast experience .The breeze of clean fresh morning air by the nature, the pool and the breakfast selection is very generous. I also ordered room service, and since we got a garden room, we enjoyed our meal at the balcony facing the garden. However the taste of the room service weren't that good. I was pretty disappointed from ordering Thai Beef Salad which didn't taste like one. I also had a pick up and drop off airport transport service that was pretty good. The spa treatment was great for the price too. In addition, the spa design was very nice too, it had an open concept which was overlooking the outdoor nature.

One thing about the hotel to be aware of is that it is far off from Ubud. From Ubud the hotel still took about 40 minutes drive. So, it is quite far. However if you don't mind the distance, overall in my opinion Puri Gangga Resort offers a comfortable, cozy, homey and peaceful atmosphere with authentic Ubud style getaway.

Room Tip: Book way in advance to obtain a room with a pool view. Garden room is quite.

Please do not transfer your guest to others although it's the same group.. If it's already FULL.. please stop taking in reservations.. Our 2nd trip to Bali was totally spoiled because of this.. We choose Gangga because of the surrounding environments.. Ended up we were being transferred to Sunia. which do not have padi field view or forest..

This is a luxurious resort with some of the best food in Indonesia. The spa services are above and beyond. It is quite a ways from Ubud, about a 20 minute drive, but if you are looking for a cool quiet hideaway, this is great.
To get there, it is cheapest to hire a taxi from the airport for Rp. 300k or the resort offers a shuttle for about twice that price.

My husband and I enjoyed being about 30 minutes from the actually hustle and bustle of the "downtown" area. The hotel offers a free shuttle several times a day/night and we used this service throughout our entire stay. The hotel almost feels like a temple in it's design and is nestled in the trees up on a hill with gorgeous views. There is also a local temple where villagers go to have a spiritual bath within walking distance- well worth going to see, beautiful structures and lush vegetation!

Our room was very nice, clean, and the outdoor patio overlooked a small pond. We enjoyed their "free" afternoon tea in our room- a selection of teas and small treats. They also offer free yoga classes, and 15 minute foot massage at the spa, and other activities but you must give prior notice. We had many activities booked and did not have time for the other free items offered. The pool area is nice as well and sits next to the outdoor restaurant where breakfast (that was included) is. We also had lunch here once and everything we ordered was delicious. We are vegetarian and the staff made sure to get our orders correct. I worked with the manager for arranging a special private poolside dinner for my husband's birthday via email prior to our arrival. He was very accommodating and the dinner turned out beautifully with a heart on the deck made of flower petals, candles, and a birthday cake. There was so much food- all delicious and vegetarian for us that we were STUFFED after! All things were great at this hotel except one.

I was extremely disappointed with the spa service here.
We booked massages and did not receive what we had booked. Upon checkout I asked about it and they said they got the wrong information. We had planned to book again but decided not to based on our experience since you can find cheaper/longer services at beautiful spas out in town. The following day the hotel offered to give us a 1/2 hour massage service since our appointment was booked incorrectly. We accepted and asked if we could also use the 15 minute foot massages at during the appointment as well. We booked it all for the evening of my husband's bday. Once again disappointed when we arrived nobody was in the spa. After waiting I had to go to the front office. Long story short they only had booked for one person, did not have anyone ready and closed in less than an hour so we could not get our services once again. We had planned our entire day upon returning in time for this service. Upon checkout to "compensate" we were given a bag of random wooden carvings. More things for us to carry and nothing that we actually wanted. Discounting our original service would have been much better.

If it were not for the bad spa experience I would have given 5 stars.

Room Tip: All rooms looked great- ours was sort of in the back of the grounds and overlooked a small rice fie...

Our group stayed for 3 nights at the hotel. Hotel is quite far from UBUD itself but the hotel organises a good shuttle service to Ubud which is really needed.
Room are clean - beautiful - and quite big. The only negative point is the noice of the cocks in the morning. They wake you up from 05.00 am and they do not stop till 08.00 am. Frienly staff

We stayed at the hotel for 6 nights. It lived up to expectations in many ways, such as the surrounds were beautiful and the pool lovely - looks just like the pictures state. We spent many afternoons at the pool and it was like paradise when we did this. The breakfasts, as people say, were amazing, yummy and varied and presented to a very high level: we often ate breakfast and didn't need anything till the free afternoon tea. The restaurant is in beautiful surrounds, overlooking trees and the temple. We ate there for dinner a few nights and the food was of a good standard, better than expected in a resort where you could not get dinner from elsewhere. The staff were always obliging, although at times some staff didn't understand requests - but as English is their second language, one can understand this. All these elements mean that the resort is a five star level.

The spa is a good way to relax and although expensive for Bali, it is not expensive in terms of Australian prices. We used the services twice and had a very relaxing time. Yoga classes by Puspa were also enjoyed very much and we had a morning walk which gave us a chance to see the countryside and the village.

It is true that the resort is some distance from Ubud, 30-45 minutes not the 20 minutes stated on the website. We used the shuttle bus service three days and it was very good except for once when it was about 45 minutes late.

One key area of concern for us was the noise though. I think some of the reviews who state the stay was excellent were not in a room that backed onto the farmlands/rice paddies. As it is a working village, the sounds of the animals at night and from 5.30am in the morning was excruciatingly loud. We had anticipated this, and brought earplugs, but still the roosters' noise penetrated our sleep early in the morning. Some might say this is a minor thing or we should expect it, but when you go to relax, it is something that needs to be considered. This is something that means we can't give five stars overall for the resort.

There were a few minor things like our safe didn't work, there was water on the floor in the bathroom when we arrived, the curtains were off their rails, there were stains on the curtains, there were stains on the serviettes or tablecloths at times - these little attention to detail elements also contribute to the overall 4 star rating. They seem like minor issues if there was one element, but when they add up it suggests that there are a few things to be ironed out at the resort.

Also, I would expect the toiletries to be of a higher quality and they were not - this is not something I put in my feedback to the hotel (as nearly everything I have written above was in the written feedback to the hotel), but should be considered for a 4 and a half star resort.

Overall, if I could stay again I would get a poolside villa as it would guarantee quiet - and you will have an excellent stay as it is a lovely resort. It is very good value for what you pay.

Room Tip: Get a poolside villa to avoid insect, frog and rooster noise at night/morning
