We have stayed in Ubud many times at high end resorts. Unfortunately this time at another place (not The Mansion) our booking had been mucked up so we ended up staying at The Mansion. The place is a huge beautiful old mansion (think colonial Vietnamese / French) with huge sweeping stairs and beautiful antiques inside (kind of like many of the Tugu Hotels). We stayed in a Governors suite which is situated in the main building upstairs. There are also other small rooms elsewhere on the property. The suite was spacious, bed very comfortable, great aircon, very quite and well appointed. The hotel restaurant was excellent for dinner - we ate in most nights. A classic Vietnam theme - and full of antiques, well spaced tables, dinning indoors or out. Very romantic. The two pools on the property were also very good. The only two problems were checking in - it took hours as we wanted to utilise a rate of around $180 US a night for the room available on their own website - but they could not do this at the desk, we had to use the internet which took a long time. Also the breakfasts were not very good - we only ate breakie in once. They were very gracious and allowed us to use our room until 7pm the day we left with no extra charge (we were flying out of Bali) - we left an extra large tip for this. A beautiful clean well serviced property with great design and features. A real find. I cannot recommend this place enough and for what we paid it was a real bargain - and worth much more. If you are thinking about any of the up market Ubud resorts definitely look at this place for something that has more than a touch of Bali but delivered in a classic Vietnamese / French way.

We just checked out of this beautiful hotel today and we feel totally relaxed. It was a 'real' Bali experience with excellent service, friendly staff, calm surrounds. We ate at the 'Indocchine' restaurant at the hotel and were blown away by the 5 star service, surrounds and presentation of the food for such a reasonable price. Would definitely recommend this hotel for a totally relaxing experience.

We stayed here for 3 nights and wish it were more. It is not walking distance to Ubud centre but there is a regular shuttle and taxi drivers will do the trip for a few dollars.

The Mansion is a lovely hotel and the Villas are great to stay in apart from the thin walls between the other villas. The breakfast was fantastic but the other food was expensive (but nice). I would recommend this for couples as there are 3 pools so easy to find a secluded one to swim in and the grounds are lovely. Staff are very friendly. Remember to bring documentation if you paid in advance. Nice and clean but expect a few tiny (cute) bugs as this is a rural setting.

We managed to get a a great last minute deal at 'The Mansion'to escape the unbearably loud music of the Sanur festival (we were staying at the Segara village driectly opposite!!)

The entrance to this hotel is very grand and the foyer and sweeping staircase is jammed full on incredible paintings - which all adds to the atmophere. Our room was lovely which was at the top level next to the large meeting room. Lovely four poster bed and marble bathroom. We had our two boys with us - age 8 and 10 in extra beds in the same room (not perfect -but fine as the room was just about large enough).

The two pools in the grounds were great and taking tea in the gardens was a 'tranquil experience'(well, as much as it can be with two boys!!).

My husband and I ate in thier opulent Indochine resturant.-it was more about the beauty of it rather than the food which was fine but not as amazing as we had expected.

I would certainly recommend the masion as a quiet getaway -it's 15 mins from Ubud, but they did have a shuttle bus that went hourly. The only disappointing part of it was the breakfasts - i did expect the quality we had exprienced with the rest of the hotel - but we thought it was very poor - the fruit juice was not fresh, it tasted like it was from a mixed up powder that you would have expected from a motel!!! There was not the array of bread or pastries that there should have been -( bearing in mind the famous Honeymoon Bakery is near by.) - and the coffee was perculated and pretty disgusting - it would have been great to have got a proper coffee there!!. I hope they do something about that because it is, after all, the little things that really count and can let them down badly.

I stayed in The Mansion for 2 nights (28-30th July), booked a villa residence room that is described on the hotel web page as having 'a separate living and dining area, and the upper bedrooms open on to a spacious and charming balcony. Each of The Residence Villas contains fine examples of outstanding artworks, furnishings and other treasures'. Instead I was given a simple deluxe room(that is adjusent to the pool area, according to the description on the web page, and that was true). the name of the room was Bisma. Needless to say that there was no living / dining area or 'fine examples of outstanding artworks, furnishings and other treasures'. I asked the hotel staff 3 times what type of room it is. At first the guy from the reception who showed me the way to the room could not answer and asked the porter who of course also had no idea! Then I said that I booked a villa residence room and they said that this is a villa residence room. But of course that was not. It is the biggest disappointment from the hotel. Cheating the clients this way won't lead the hotel to a success.

I fully agree with the other feedbacks about breakfasts (could be more varied). It is a pity that the hotel management does not pay attention to these comments and does not change anything.

The restaurant is overpriced, the service is VERY slow. I had to wait for 10 minutes for the menu, but in vain. Then had to stand up and look for a waiter to ask for the menu. The same was with asking to bring salt, pepper and butter. Asked 3 times. Can't say that the food quality is something great, it was just ok, but for the price that they ask it must be much, much better!

Service in general does not correspond to the level of a 5 star (boutique) hotel and the prices that they ask for it. The staff are annoying and irritating, they are always here when you do not need them and you can't find them when you really need. And even if you find make sure that they understand you and will do what you want.

A big disappointment from the hotel. Would never recommend it.

I stayed 1 night at the Mansion, and booked the swanasteni suite (governor suite), it seems a nice suite in a separate bungalow outside the hotel. This suite is very noisy as we were close to the road, we did not sleep and had to change of room. We suggest the management not to propose this room (236 Euros/night at a discounted Expedia rate.
The room where we moved was very nice and quiet.
I was also very disappointed by the breakfast for a 5 star hotel. It was a very light buffet with orange juices mixed with water. This hotel is far from Ubud center, there is a free shuttle every hour. No free Internet in the room , no WiFi, there are 3 PC in the lobby, one PC with a keyboard where you cannot read the characters.
This hotel could be a gem, but needs in my view a efficient management to correct all these quality issues.

The Mansion is a secluded gem in the heart of the Ubud district. We spent 5 days here and loved the relaxed luxury and the friendly helpful staff. The Mansion is a beautiful hotel with style in both the buildings and the hospitality.

The Mansion has all the facilities you’d expect of a five star hotel with pools, ponds and fountains as well as works of art and an excellent massage service. It’s also in a peaceful, private location with easy access to Ubud.

There are traditional dance performances at many locations around Ubud. On full moon day, the Mansion involves the local village in their on-site Full Moon Festival. The kids obviously revel in the chance to perform - the girls dedicated and concentrating, the boys with cheeky smiles and dressed in colourful traditional costumes. They lead the procession and are followed by the women and men recreating traditional stories. With the background of the fabulous Mansion beautifully lit is amazing. We were lucky enough to be there on New Years Eve for the Full Moon Festival and had a fantastic night.

We would highly recommend this as a relaxing luxurious hotel with traditional Balinese hospitality.
