It is hard to imagine a better overall "hotel" experience. This is not really a hotel, but a relaxing and enjoyable environment in every respect. Eating every meal at a table that literally seemed to be in the middle of rice fields was unique. The incredibly good cuisine, personalized by one on ones with the chef, was particularly special. Our villa was huge, our personal butler was very special. What can one say? they have a world clas spa we did not use. You might. One could imagine just "letting go" for a week or so at the Chedi Club to re-energize your life.

Room Tip: This is not a beach vacation place. You could do worse than to just relax here. That said, they have...

Stayed 3 nights as part of our honeymoon in a spa villa. Initial teething problems with tap in or tub not working properly and the plug not fitting were corrected almost instantly by our butler and the on site engineer.

The staff were very friendly, the spa team excellent, enjoyed the variety of choices for breakfast, afternoon tea and cocktails as well as the superb half day tour.

We also indulged in the kecak dinner and dance, which we enjoyed, especially the flame throwing!

Simon looks after all the guests personally and truly helped us enjoy our stay. I would say that the rooms may not be to everyone's taste, especially as they are more traditional in design rather than luxury in the more conventional sense, but this is part of the charm at Chedi Club. The Villas are private but not too far apart so you will see other guests and there were some children staying at the resort during our stay, so if you want pure honeymoon escape and quiet, Chedi may not be the one.

Overall Ubud is a very different experience to Seminyak/Nusa Dua and Chedi has a great offering with beautiful architecture and a strong team to pamper guests. Thanks Chedi for looking after us and adding to our amazing Bali honeymoon memories!

We just returned from a 9 day trip to Bali. 3 days each at the Chedi Club, Amankila (East Bali) and Samaya (Seminyak). All the properties were excellent and each very different from the others.

The Chedi Club was our second stop after the Amankila, and could not have been more different in terms of its setting and layout - though in its own way, just as beautiful. The resort is set inside a traditional Balinese estate with gardens dotted with statues and ponds on one side and rice fields extending into the horizon on the other.

We had a pool villa which was enclosed in its own compound, with a small pool in the entry courtyard, an oudoor seating area, a good sized bedroom and a large bathroom (with indoor showers and an outdoor tub). The villa was tastefully decorated and very private. We saw some of the regular villas as we walked around the estate, and in my opinion, they lack privacy as people walking by can look right in.

The service standards were very high and we had a dedicated butler who was on hand for all our needs. However, we did not experience the level of personalised service that we did at the Amankila.

We ate several meals at the Chedi Club and the level of cooking was generally high, though we found the traditional Balinese dinner (following the Kecak dance) to be disappointing.

The resort arranged tours for us to visit nearby temples (Tirta Empul was a highlight) as well as galleries and workshops, and these were very arranged and enjoyable.

All in all, we had an excellent stay at the Chedi Club and would definitely recommend it to others. In terms of value for money, this was perhaps our best stay in Bali.

Room Tip: Pool villas have a lot more privacy than regular villas / suites.

A stunning property situated amongst rice paddies outside of Ubud. The grounds are superb, with a photo opportunity at every turn.

It is clear from the website it is outside of Ubud, but drivers are available until 6pm complimentary to the centre only.

Excellent level of service, with our butler Supri ready and able to arrange anything we wanted. The complimentary cocktail hour, minibar and laundry were all appreciated. We had ristafel one night which was good and BBQ another .

We used the gym which was equipped with treadmill, elliptical, bikes and weights. All that you need for a workout. Yoga available too, but we didn't try this.

Recommended for the pool villa with wooden doors that you can open to have a scenic view of the working paddies if you like.

Room Tip: Book the pool villa. Nice outside sitting/dining/lazing area

We were booked to stay at Chedi for 3 nights, we checked out after 1. Whilst the grounds and pool and surrounding rice fields are stunning, everything else requires substantial improvement. The suites are average, and lack any privacy as the windows and doors look directly to the public areas and paths. The rooms have no private outdoor area at all. The outdoor bathroom is large, but obviously gets very wet when it rains, combined with our leaky roof. The bed is comfortable, but top sheets are by request only, as it is 'standard' to only be provided with a thick duvet. We found this very strange for the tropics. The complimentary bar is a nice idea, but not really worth it if you do not enjoy the particular spirits provided. The food is very expensive and not very good compared to numerous places we ate elsewhere in Bali. The service was good, but not amazing, and in some cases felt a little imposing and stilted. We have stayed in other luxury boutique hotels in Asia that far exceeded this in terms of luxury and the experience. We don't mind paying when we are on holidays, however expect value for money in any price bracket- this high end price was not worth it. We moved to another hotel that was considerably cheaper, the rooms were better appointed, the service and small touches lovely, the food far superior. Overall we were very disappointed with our stay at Chedi.

Dear Guests,

Thank you for your review of our property and the feedback.

Having been in correspondence with you over the last few weeks, I again deeply apologize for not meeting your expectations at The Chedi. The hotel used to be a private estate and was built in the traditional Balinese style of architecture and I understand that not everybody always appreciates every element, for example the open-air bathrooms.

We hoped that you would take us up on the offer to upgrade you to a spa villa for the remainder of your stay instead of checking out immediately.

I do assure you that we try our best to provide the highest level of service to our guests, and I am truly very sorry that in your experience this did not suffice.

Thank you again for your feedback.

Kind regards,

Simon and the management team

We have stayed at the Chedi for 6 nights. We had a nice villa with a private pool and were very satisfied. The Chedi was the second hotel we have stayed in Bali. In the first hotel, we had a poolvilla with a great view and the Chedi has villas, which are open to the rice fields and other villas not. Unfortunately, there was no view from our villa which was a disadvantage. We had our own butler who takes care of everything. From welcoming you upon arrival to bringing you roomservice but also making up your villa. On one side, this is great, on the other side, it can create situations where your butler has to interrupt cleaining because e.g. another guest has ordered roomservice. That's why we sometimes had to wait after breakfast outside because he was not finished with making up the room. It's not a big problem at all, nevertheless, when you stay at the Chedi, you want to have full privacy. Very positive however is the value for money. It's not a cheap hotel of course, however, you have up to 6 pieces of complimentary laundry per person per day, you can enjoy complimentary afternoon tea and free alcoholic beverages from the minibar and free cocktails before dinner. The Chedi has one restaurant and after 6 nights, we have seen the menus. One night we also had BBQ - nice but sorry to say, the people did not know how to grill. The open air restaurant was full of smoke and so tasted the meat unfortunately.... No big deal, but I would not go for BBQ anymore.
Another very positive thing is the friendliness of the staff. VERY VERY VERY FRIENDLY AT ALL TIMES. They have known our names from the first day on, knew, that we like jasmin tea for breakfast, etc. Really very nice, from the waiter to the restaurant manager, great people!
Also very nice is the Yoga in the morning. just fantastic doing some complimentary Yoga and at the end, having a nice look to ricefields. We also enjoyed 2 SPA treatments. Both were very nice!
I can recommend the Chedi to people looking to stay at a nice, quite hotel and I suggest to stay at a poolvilla (and ask if you can have one with view to the ricefields).

Dear Guest,

I was delighted to learn that you have enjoyed your stay at the Chedi Club Ubud. It was a great pleasure that I read through your review and I truly appreciate your writing to us to express such gracious comments about the property and the services accorded to you by all the staff at The Chedi Club.

We apologize for the lapse you encountered in regards to the cleanup of your room. Whenever possible our butlers should complete it before our guests are back from their breakfast. I will definitely have a look into that matter and see how we can improve these services. I also have addressed your concern about the barbeque to our culinary team

Thank you once again for choosing the Chedi Club and for taking the time to share your experience and give us great feedback. I do hope that we will have the pleasure to welcome you back to the Chedi Club in the near future.

Kind regards,

Simon and the management team

Just stayed at The Chedi Club in Ubud and I must say, it was one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at! From the grounds to the service, everything was top-notch. I stayed in a regular villa and the room was spacious, clean, and beautifully decorated. The outdoor bathroom took a little time getting used to, but it was always clean and well decorated. We enjoyed the complimentary service to town (10-15 min away) which was easy to arrange. Our butler was very sweet and answered all of our questions, as did every staff member. He even arranged for an impromptu shopping and art discovery tours. After half day tours, we often lounged by the pool and have a late lunch there (we did not take a pool villa), and found that there were lovely daybeds and the atmosphere was very peaceful. In general, there are few villas on the property so while we didn't have an absolute private pool, we found that there were usually only few people around the pool and that everyone was absolutely attended to when need be. And of course, the pool staff were very friendly. The complimentary breakfast was also very tasty with a diverse set of options, both balinese and western, the restaurant staff were happy to cater to any needs we had. They even didn't allow us to bring back coffee from our meal to our villa, and instead brought one to our villa by the time we walked back, insisting that their guests should do no work on their vacation and that they are happy to make our stay as relaxing as possible. Now that's incredible service. I also want to esp. thank Mr. Spillman, the general manager, who really made our stay special. He personally greets the staff in the morning (we were up at breakfast due to jetlag at 7a) and he would stop by during the day to see how our day went. He also answered any questions and ensured that our stay would be spectacular. He even granted a special request with no hesitation that really made our rounded out our trip. I have stayed at many wonderful hotels around the world, but this one really lands as one of the best!
