This was first trip without our kids for the last 7 years (except a 4 day jaunt in Paris). We have stayed in many many wonderful hotels over the years and whilst facility wise its not the best. Service wise it cant be faulted. Often with service its what you dont see that makes the difference. We had the pool villa and a butler. Its the skill of the staff and what they do that makes this place different. By the first day all of the staff knew our name and what we liked etc.
Simon Spiller made the effort to introduce himself to us on the first day. This place is class act.
In point form.
The Bad or could be improved
- The gym needs to be bigger and more equipped. Every time we went to use it (4 times) there was another couple training and this gym cant handle 4 persons. Needs natural ventilation too
- Decking in villa 10 near pool needs to be re laid. You could cut your foot on protruding nails

The Good
- Its a case of what you want when you want it and where you want it. Its your choice yours
- 4-6pm free high tea
- 6-7pm Free cocktails (Tanah Gajah recommended)
- Service levels beyond reproach- attentive, friendly and just intuitive.
- Bowa our butler who organised everything and made sure we had everything.
- The grounds are spacious and beautiful
- The hotel only has 20 rooms and is a very quiet retreat.
- The restaurant is lovely and the staff amazing.
- Butler Bowa plays a mean game of ping pong and I asked him to give 100% and win and he did that he beat me 4-2. Respect for being honest.
- They always serve you from the right (once again just the little things)
- The vista from the restaurant over the working rice fields.

I could go on and on and on. All the staff were incredible and Bowa gets a mention because he was our butler. But the lovely smiling Balinese are so welcoming.
One of the possible reasons why the service is so good here is that all staff have been here for a long time. The system works!!!!
We always said that we would never stay at the same place twice. After our stay we are thinking about an annual trip here. If you want a relaxing holiday with the very best service this is the place.
A big thank you to all that made our trip so memorable. And I know that Simon Spiller (GM) will pass this onto to his staff as we appreciated every effort made by them all.

Room Tip: We have pool villa 10. private and everything we needed. Didnt see any other rooms but get the impr...

Dear Guest,

Thank you so much for a very detailed review on our property and we very much appreciate your feedback.

Regarding the gym, its a bit difficult for us to enlarge it due to space constraints. The ventilation however can be easily improved and I will work together with our Engineering team to fix that. The same goes for the wooden deck, we have scheduled a refurbishment already, which will take place within the next few days.

I am very happy to know that you enjoyed your stay with us and consider breaking your rule of not staying at the same place twice, we would be more then happy to have you back with us next year.

I passed your compliment on to Bawa and the entire team and they are very happy to know that you enjoyed your stay.

On behalf of the whole team we would like to say thank you again.

Kind regards,

Simon and the Management team

WOW!!! Where to start. My wife and I were on our honeymoon and were greated at the airport with a private transfer, cold towel and bottle of water, just what we needed in the Bali heat. Once at the hotel, a golf buggy tour of the grounds by our butler and he showed us all the luxuries of the villa. The villa itself was simply stunning. A private pool that you can actually have a proper swim in, 2 outdoor seating areas, outdoor bath (a first) massive shower, his and hers sinks with associated cosmetics, complimentory minibar, honeymoon cake and a bottle of bubbley, the list goes on and on. My wife especially loved the breakfests. Fresh fruit and fruit juice, hot bakery baskets with unusual jams like watermelon, wonderful cooked food (the chicken noodles are a must). All this brought to your table and you could literally have the entire menu if you wanted. With Balinese music playing in the backround, breakfest is a meal you will not want to miss. Afternoon tea and cocktails at sunset really add an extra touch of class to the place. I could honestly write a review for hours, the Chedi Club is that good but one thing i will say is that the staff are quite possibley the most friendly and helpful staff I have ever come across. Nothing we asked for was too much trouble, always service with a smile and our butler (Sarya - apologise if i've spelt it wrong) was amazing. He made what was already an amazing honeymoon even more memorable. Would i go back to the Chedi Club? Put it this way, we wanted to go back as soon as we left.

Serenity now! Ok, imagine the Angkor Wat, you establish a resort inside of it and you remove all the tourists. That is more or less the Chedi Club. There is a peace and quiet to this place that is really unprecedented. The staff are incredibly friendly and the premises stand out as something entirely unique. We unfortunately only had two days at the Chedi Club and would have loved to stayed longer. We had a pool room with our own pool and would recommend others to do the same.

We stayed for six nights during our honeymoon. We chose the Chedi Club as it was ranked number 1 on Trip Adviser for Ubud hotels. As a result we went with pretty high expectations and I have to say they were surpassed in pretty much every area. The staff are incredibly friendly; the food is lovely and the grounds are immaculate. For us though, the difference between Chedi and lots of other hotels are the little extra touches: the complimentary minibar, the yoga classes each morning; the evening cocktails; they are simply lovely gestures that you simply don't find elsewhere and they are much appreciated. This place is fantastic, please don't change a thing.

Brilliant. Outstanding. Beautiful. Unrivalled. Wow. (My review says we went in May 2013 as there is (understandably) no option for procrastinators like me who wait so ridiculously long to provide a review, we went in May 2008

Loved every minute of our pampered 5 nights. What's not to like about having your own Butler, your own pool, drinks cabinet, outside bath...... the list goes on. It is just done with such little fuss but such great, understated aplomb.

Accommodation was superb in every respect. The restaurant food was also superb, modern, beautifully presented and authentically Balinese. If I have ever had a more peaceful, tranquil and truly beautiful setting for dinner I have forgotten it. Fair enough facing paddy fields may not seem to fit that description but once dusk and darkness arrives we could not help but be mesmerised by the fireflies in amongst the back drop. A truly amazing place to eat your meals when you choose not to have your butler bring your amazing food to you in your villa.

Massages were perhaps the only thing I would say were not necessarily noticeably better than any of the less luxuriously kitted out and plentiful places in Ubud itself and for the price differential they should have been. However we were on honeymoon, we just didn't care!!

The huge pool, deserted most of the time we were there, was great for a full on swim or just relaxing and taking in the amazing grounds.

A tremendous place, tremendous staff, tremendous service all resulting in a truly wonderful and unrivalled stay. Our only grumble (no reflection of the Chedi at all) is that our financial circumstances mean we shan't be returning any time soon. Booooooo hooooooooo

Just book it and drool at the whole experience.

Room Tip: Get the biggest, baddest villa you can reasonably afford and feel like a king (or queen) for your en...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for the belated review and for still remembering us all this time. That is very kind of you!

As always we are working hard to provide excellent service to our guests. The grounds, gardens, rice paddy views and surroundings have not been changed. Its still as beautiful as it has been five years ago.

We would be delighted to welcoming you and your wife back to the Chedi Club Ubud.

We have just returned from a 5 day stay at The Chedi Club. A beautiful property with fantastic grounds and lilly ponds overlooking the rice fields. We received excellent service from all staff particularly from our personal butler (Dewi). We were greeted and wished bon voyage personally by the GM Simon which we felt was a very nice touch. We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary while there and our butler went over and above to make this a special day to remember. While out watching the show he decorated our room with swans, flowers and other fun characters from towels and a personal card, this really made our evening. The open air restaurant provides a beautiful setting especially at breakfast time. The spa and treatments were exceptional. The free mini bar which we hardly used was very good as was the afternoon tea - highly recommended and also the free cocktails all added to a wonderful experience. We particularly liked the courtesy car service into Ubud complete with chedi mobile phone was very much appreciated, as was the drivers who were very informative.
As we enjoy eating out among the locals we cannot really comment on the overall restaurant food but breakfast was wonderful.
Our only gripe with this property is the positions of some of the suites, we felt they offered very little outside privacy space although it did not spoil our stay. In future visits we would pay more and stay in a spa villa but they do book up very early hence we were in a suite.
We just wish we could have stayed here longer.

Room Tip: Pool or spa villas for more outside privacy, but all rooms are very good sizes and standard.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for such a beautiful review on our property.

We are grateful for your acknowledgement towards our efforts in creating a memorable wedding anniversary during your stay and congratulations to both of you again.

Regarding your privacy concerns for some of the Suite Villas, we have been working on a solution which will be implemented very soon with the planting of high grass within the lotus pond, shielding each villa's view of the other.

Again, thank you very much for your feedback and we wish to see you back to The Chedi Club Ubud in the near future.

Kind regards,

We, like most travelers to Bali, spent a few days at the beach and headed to the mountains and central Bali area around Ubud. We chose this hotel because of the reputation and our seasoned travel agent's referral. The experience greatly exceeded our high expectations.

Upon arrival you are presented with a setting of a nature retreat. You see a working rice farm for as far eye can see, swimming pools, flowering ponds, flower beds and well manicured gardens. During our September 2013 stay were were treated to a daily change in color of the surrounding rice fields as harvest time was approaching.

What distinguishes the Chedi from other hotels is the service. It began upon arrival during check in and continued with a thorough tour of the grounds. We experienced the genuine interest and care of the master Chef who, upon hearing my wife had a gluten intolerance personally met us at our table and created a meal that was simply amazing. He followed up with individually prepared snacks and breads for subsequent meals. Every member of the staff knew she was gluten intolerant and each meal was exciting and delicious. We regret eating anywhere else during our stay in Ubud.

What's unique about this boutique hotel is that it's designed as a home with private and detached guest rooms. The artwork/statues on display and open air dining provided a memorable experience. Clearly, you were a guest in a private home surrounded by nature and it felt good. The bathrooms were outdoors and very well designed in a modern style. The swans, parrots, lilies, birds, bullfrogs, and even the bats, provided a moving soundtrack to the golden rice fields that embraced you during your meals or yoga sessions.

The staff, particularly our butler, provided over the top service, and a memorable flower petal arrangement acknowledging our wedding anniversary. He helped design a tour, using a hotel staff driver, and made recommendations that were very helpful to us. It was difficult to leave and we hope to return again.

Room Tip: There are a limited number of rooms and only one room for families with children. Plan ahead.

Dear Guest,

It was such an honor to have read an amazing review on TripAdvisor. A very big thank you for sharing your experience.

It’s beautiful isn’t it, to see the color change in the rice field? A few days after you left we were entering the harvesting period, where guests can experience how the local farmers do the manual harvesting process.

I have notify Dean—our Executive Chef—about your compliment and he was very happy to receive it. It brought him a big smile on his face.

Thank you again for all of your kind words and we are very much looking forward to welcome you back soon to the Chedi Club.

Kind regards,
