“A Trip and Hotel I we would repeat inspite of the the distance.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 March 2014

Obviously Bali has many options and alternatives. One option much demanded is the beaches and beach hotels. Our option was to see the Balinese interior and culture of the people. Ubud is a well known center for this and the many villages around Ubud have artisians and a large variety of temples and cultural centers. However we did not want to stay in a hotel close to Ubud since it is a busy comercial center for the region.

The Chedi Club Hotel was exactly what we wanted in the out lying region of Ubud, yet within driving distance for cultural events, some of which we enjoyed on the hotel grounds it self. The service was impecable in all aspects. For visits out side the hotel we were assigned a driver who was not only very good at making his way over the narrow roads, but an extremely well qualified guide to explain the Balinese culture the várious temples, He also made sure we got to visit as many artisians as possible and the great variety of scenery such as volcanos, and rice planting and harvest. Also taking us for local food and getting aquanted with local fruits.

The trip was marvelous and we have e-mailed both the driver and house boy to confirm our thanks for a wonderful trip.

Such a step above the standard for 5-star: this is more akin to being a guest at a private complex (perhaps of a Bond-villain?) than it is to being a "hotel" or even a "spa". The layout is such that open spaces, reflecting pools, Lillie pad gardens and rice paddies isolate you from even the concept of other guests, let alone "neighbors." The architecture is sparse but luxurious. Our villa had an (enormous) outdoor bathtub, which was accented with stone gardens, recessed lights and a soundscape of falling water. The private pool and surrounding walls really allows one to have a retreat.
My wife said the Balinese massage was exceptional.
Dean Nor's cuisine is spectacular. Inventive, and, given he keeps an herb-garden and chickens, genuinely home-grown. His Singaporean origin is expressed in his fusion of styles and ingredients. The food was flavorful and fresh and presented beautifully. I wouldn't travel to Bali for the food... With this exception.
The butler takes care of everything: and still, the resulting rates are really reasonable (as opposed to the sense I've gotten other places that if you care about how much it costs, you shouldn't have the hotel butler arrange it (sneer)). We had a daylong driving tour arranged, with a terrifically informative driver (who spoke beautiful English): very reasonable!
Chedi Club was the absolute highlight of our stay in Bali.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for such a wonderful review!

The hotel use to be a private Estate and has therefore a different character comparing to a regular hotel. Its nice that you pointed that out and liked the concept. Where can you find a hotel today with 5 hectares of land and only 20 villas? By the way, Dr. No stays with us every Christmas :-)

I'll make sure to pass on your great comments to your entire team.

Thank you again and we are looking forward to welcome you back to the Chedi Club soon.

Kind regards,

Simon and the management team

We stayed at The Chedi Club in October 2012, and have been meaning to review it for some time. It has become the bench mark by which we judge everywhere we have been since, and are constantly searching for places like it!

From the moment we arrived the staff were friendly and went above and beyond our expectations. My boyfriend was ill during our stay here (from something he had eaten at a previous hotel) and the Chedi Club couldn't do enough to help - they suggested particular dishes and drinks that may help, and even went to town to buy some pro-biotic drinks. The staff throughout the resort often asked how he was doing, and on our last night gave us a complementary meal as they felt sorry that our stay may have been marred by his illness (which was not down to the Chedi at all).

As everyone else has said, the grounds of the hotel itself are absolutely beautiful, as are the villas. We had the spa villa and the treatments were excellent.

The food was also sublime. I am coeliac and the chef and his team were amazing - they made the best gluten free pastries (including croissant!), bread and pancakes that I have ever found anywhere in the world. The croissant was so good that the first time I had one I checked twice that it really was gluten free.

A beautiful, special hotel that I only wish was nearer so that we could return more often!

Outstanding! We've done a lot of travelling and stayed in some pretty great hotels, but this is definitely one of the best and most unique. We went to Bali for our 'babymoon' - after a few days in Seminyak, we decided to go to Ubud for a few days for a little peace and quiet. We chose the Chedi in Ubud based on a very good experience at the Chedi Muscat a few years ago, and we weren't disappointed. The hotel grounds are stunning and tranquil; the amenities are great; the service was exceptional - wouldn't it be nice if all hotels provided butler service for all guests!! We've never felt more welcomed at a hotel and actually felt like we were the personal guests of the owner and his staff were there to handle our every need.

Without giving too much away (you need to experience it to really appreciate it), we had a private villa and our own personal butler who seemed omnipresent. The villa had everything we needed including: a large living / bedroom, seating area, stocked (complimentary) minibar, outdoor bathroom with soaker tub and separate shower (there was also a TV which we assume worked, but never turned it on).

The hotel grounds are simply spectacular and the architecture, artwork, sculptures simply stunning. The grounds are at one with nature with plants, trees and animals becoming part of the experience. There aren't too many villas, hence, not too many guests - so it never felt crowded. Even during the Kecek performance there were some 70 performers for only about 20 guests; we had breakfast (in our package) and afternoon tea (complimentary) everyday and there were typically only a handful of guests.

The staff were exceptional - from our introduction to the hotel by Simon the GM, to Chef Dean asking for any special requests, to Suan, our butler, making it all happen, to the spa therapists, servers, drivers (yes, complimentary shuttles to Ubud centre), etc.

We'll definitely be back at some point - simply one of the most outstanding hotels we've ever been to. Enjoy your visit!

The Chedi Club in Ubud is an ideal place to spend a few days there, hotel is in a big plot of land in the outskirts of Ubud, about 10 minutes away from the city center, which guarantees quiet and privacy.

Private villas have their own swimming pool and give you so much privacy you don't want to ever leave, we were supposed to stay for two night but stayed for an extra one and we were able to watch the Cecak dance that happens twice a week on the hotel grounds.

Restaurant is by some rice fields and is such a relaxing place to have a long relaxing breakfast.

Staff is very helpful to organize trips and drivers to the many attractions nearby.

Highly recommended.

This was one of the best places we have ever been. All staff were great and the place also. Every attention to detail was awesome. The place is positioned in a heaven-like place in the middle of the rice fields and we almost cried when we had to leave and everybody was waving us goodbye. Also the spa treatment and dances where exceptionally. The car to the airport had a great and very kind driver that even took us to some nice places on our way to the airport. All staff was sincere and kind and we felt loved and at home. Wish we'd never have to leave. The location is beautiful, the architecture perfectly done and the service fantastic.

The Chedi club could quite easily be one of the most beautiful hotels in Bali! I can't qualify that quote having only stayed at two but this place was really something else. The grounds are amazing and the vast space this Villa resort occupies for just 20 villas is huge. The attention to detail is brilliant and the scenery of padi fields is relaxing to take in.
Like the hotel I stayed in in Seminyak, the Kunja, its the staff that make this place special. Our butler, Yuni, was brilliant. She was there when we needed her and always happy to help with a smile. By the end of the first day all the staff knew our surname and recognised us when we went for the excellent afternoon tea and superb cocktails - all complementary. The food at the Resturant didn't have much vegetarian options but this wasn't a problem as the head chef, Dean, was happy to make us some wonderful food and went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable. The prices at the Resturant are London prices but well worth it - I can't imagine having a five star meal in a nicer location. Simon the general manager also made time to meet us and have a nice chat which was great considering how busy he is. The Chedi club has put together a wonderful family that go out of their way to make your stay special. We were there 4 nights but I wish we had more. Apart from wanting to lounge in our beautiful surroundings we went on a temple tour - one is enough but the most amazing experience was the climb of the active volcano batur. This was amazing! Be prepared to wake up at 2am. Again the chedi staff went out of their way and prepared a large breakfast hamper knowing we were going to miss breakfast - Breakfast at the chedi being something you can't miss by the way! The fresh fruit platters and juices were perfect to wake you up. When you reach the top of batur make sure you ask your guide to take you to the second crater.
Back to the Chedi - I would say if I am back in Bali, which is likely, then I'm back here. Somehow I've had the luck to end up in the best hotels here. In fact not luck but the totally accurate trip advisor reviews! A 5/5 hotel!
