“Monkees at Breakfast time!!”
Reviewed 12 June 2011

We stayed here for two nights in early June 2011. Very nice hotel, spacious, clean and comfortable. We felt it was rather over priced however and we felt that the hotel do this because of the attraction of the monkees being around at breakfast time. That being said the monkees were most certainly there and a great attraction. The hotel appeared to be undergoing a revamp, one pool was closed and rather strangely there was no bar. Overall we could not fault the hotel at all other than we felt it was slightly over priced.

great hotel, beautiful surroundings, next to the monkey forest and on the main street. beautifull roms, spacious, big spacious bathrooms. worth the money you pay.beautiful infinity pool. unfortunately there was some construction going on there at the time we stayed, so i guess that was the reason there were no monkeys around and that was originally one of the reasons we booked the place :S also no internet in the rooms.

The Champlung Sari Hotel was a very good choice. Clean and the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. I had my own driver and private tour guide which was so nice. I could tailor my day trips to where I wanted to go and when. Extra stops were no problem.

The Breakfast buffet was very good. Monkey Forest Park is only a block away so monkeys are a problem at breakfast. 2 mornings they came and stole food right off of my plate. However, the staff are diligent in chasing them away. The tourist love it! Lots of picture taking. I just went to the buffet and filled another plate. No problem. I would warn people not to leave your glasses or camera on the table while you head to the buffet though. They also like to grab nice shiny objects.

Champlung Sari Hotel is in a great location for access to the shopping and ceremonial dances. Monkey Forest Road (where Champlun Sari is located) has the best shops. Main street has more modern contemporary shops at one end and the local ‘cheap’ (and dirtier) markets at the other end. You can easily walk to more indigenous shops and local ceremonial dance performances on Monkey Forest Road. And, of course the Monkey Forest Park is less than a block away.

ATM’s are bountiful. You just have to remember to look at the icons for which cards they accept. Not all accept Visa, for example. But, just walk a few more steps and you’ll find another one that does. (It might be inside a convenience store.)

Many of the restaurants are on Monkey Forest Road. There are a some on Main street (one very nice one on Main Street – The Lotus Café, which also has ceremonial dances). Champlung Sari Hotel is just far enough away from the night life that you don’t hear the noise, yet close enough that I could easily walk it in 10-15 minutes. The food was great!

They do have wireless internet in the lobby area. The lobby is large with several sofas and chairs. The wireless also reaches the dining room.

Traveling alone was no problem. I never felt threatened in any way. Even walking well after dark.

We arrived and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the hotel. There are still renovations but these did not interupt or impede our stay. The rooms were clean and the beds comfy. The bathroom was clean, but the wall paper was very dated.
Breakfast was well catered and there was plenty to eat. Staff were very friendly and very helpful. Being so close to the Monkey Forest they do come across about 8.30 each day. About a troop of 6 or so monkeys. The staff try to keep them at bay, but one or two do sneak in at the back of the dining area and pinch the odd piece of fruit. The staff feed the large male and this keeps him happy and the others just run around sitting on the pool lounges. The guests get an opportunity to see the monkeys, take photos and it is over in about 30 mins. They move on - probably to the next hotel!
The location is at the bottom end of the town and it is a walk up to the market - however, the surrounding shops are of good quality and should be given a look. Plenty of silver shops, and massage places to choose from. Sang Spa is a great option if you want a spa package that is good quality.
Stayed 4 days and would definitly stay there again.

This hotel is excellent value. I really enjoyed my stay there. The staff were great from reception to house cleaning staff. Restuarant staff were a little surly but since i only saw them at breakfast it was ok.
The superior room was nice and big, looking towards the padi fields. The bathroom was massive. I have stayed in rooms smaller then that bathroom. The 1st night, our sheets smelled old and stinky. One quick call to reception and the cleaners came and did the room over. Wiped down the bathroom and changed all the beddings.
Reception was very friendly and helpful, always had a smile and answered our questions and even helped us call various tour companies.
Breakfast was so-so, a small selection that was not very tasty. But for entertainment, around a horde of marauding monkeys usually show up to try and steal some food.
Yes there was some reno/construction work going on and only the new pool is open. But since I was out during the day, I cant say that it affected me in the slightest.
Location is good. Right around the corner from the monkey forest. A brisk 15-20min walk to ubud center and market.
Nice hotel, will definitely stay there again.

Its a big hotel on huge grounds but its at the bottom of Monkey Forest Road and a steep climb up to the town center. I had hurt my knee earlier on this trip so the climb was a real issue and should be noted by older visitors considering this hotel which does incorrectly claim to have a central location. Its not far, but its uphill and its not "central". The Agoda rates were very good but the Hotel's advertised room and food rates are greatly overpriced considering the location and quality of the rooms. I suspect that the room I received was in fact a standard room. I asked the reception "is this a standard room" and they said it was. I pointed out that my booking was for a superior room and then they said "your room is a superior room". As I was only there one night I did not press the matter. Some reception staff may have been a little undertrained. WiFi is free in the reception area and is not available in the rooms. Breakfast was OK and the reception area was quite nice. Staff like gardeners and maids etc were very friendly. I would not use this hotel again however. Mainly due to the downhill location.

we arrived to a driveway blocked with trucks and piles of dirt and rubble from the renovations going on near the reeption and one whole section of the reesort. The workers looked into the pool area and the restaurant and pool looked into the construction site. The food at the restaurant was inedible and the portions tiny which made sense as it was always empty. The room was large and clean but the bathroom run down and musty smelling. DOnt trust the pictures on the website, it looks like a construction site. Not recommended for young people as it was all an older crowd.
