“Second great visit”
Reviewed 30 April 2014

This was our second visit to Tegal Sari. It has been 6 years since our last visit but all the staff were as good as on our last time. They are all friendly and eager to help.
This time we booked Duplex, which has the wow factor. The downstairs bathroom has a huge bathtub/Jacuzzi and shower. Upstairs bedroom leads onto small balcony, where we enjoyed having a drink.
The minibar prices are very good.
The main plus for me was their Eco policy as they do not give out plastic water bottles every day, like other hotels, but guests can refill their own bottles in their Water butts, that are positions in many places around the hotel grounds.

The only thing I am not very sure is their newly build 'block of apartments' as they look completely different to the original part of Tegal Sari, but on this stay it does not give me reason to mark this hotel lower than 5*.

We went twice for dinner to the restaurant by new entrance. They have many vegetarian and non veggie option at very reasonable prices.

I stayed here because of my friend's recommendation. The hotel was nice and clean, unfortunately the wooden room was already full at that time, so we booked other room for 3 persons. The staff was nice, pool looks tempting, we had a massage near the pool, so it was a great moment for us.

In the morning you can see a large rice fields, and mongkeys running around the hotel area, climbing down from the tree. As usual, the mongkeys will try to search for food from you, so I found it quite hard to relax at the balcony while drinking tea or coffee in morning. And that also give you a rule to not open a window and door of your room when the mongkeys are around as there's a chance they will enter it.

We also order a lunch at the restaurant when we checked out. The taste was just ok, and it really took a long time for the food to came out.

This hotel was exemplary with service, cleanliness and it's surroundings.
The staff were so friendly, helpful and survived our every request with a smile and a courteous greeting.
The rice padding surrounding Tegal sari create a natural surrounding with ducks quacking and crickets croaking.
There are a lot of Mosquitos in Ubud but tegal sari provides plug in replete mats for the room and you just need repellant on your skin when you go out.
They are building next door to Tegal sari but we didn't hear the building work as we were far from it.
The pool was beautifully clean and refreshing, the massages were value for money and could be requested on the day however they did book up!
The restaurant on site had beautiful meals and they could be orders to the room and pool area.
We used the Tegal sari shuttle which was very cheap.

Room Tip: Choose upper level room for best view and request to be away from the building work.

Staff were nice but then they are in most place we found in Bali.

The Hotel itself is too far from the action. You tend to walk for miles to get anywhere and the rooms are nothing special.
I have had 2 rooms here. A "wooden room" which did feel like Budget Bali and also a "Super Deluxe" room that was just a plain box that could be anywhere. BORING!

The new section they are building is all Modern white Box's. Look modern-cool but Come on guys i want to KNOW im in UBUD.

Unfortunately some developers have terrible taste.

Do yourself a huge favour and find a place with CHARACTER . There are many.

We picked this hotel because there was so much raving about it and it had won trip advisor awards, sure it was nice but we had stayed at the Saren Indah on our previous trip and that was a much better hotel. Don't get me wrong it is deffinatly a beautiful hotel rooms were fantastic, didn't see much of the staff so cant say about them, just I think there are better up in Ubud

Room Tip: we had a duplex room very nice, has outdoor private spa big enough for 2 people. be aware this hotel...

We had a BFF reunion, party of fourteen people, who came from Montreal, Basel, Melbourne and Jakarta, We rented 1 Villa, 2 Super Deluxe rooms and 1 Standard room and some extra beds.
We loved the place and the service given by the hotel staffs; superb!!
Opening our curtain in our super deluxe room, we could see rice fields of Ubud, a view we did not have in the cities we lived.
In our rented villa, we have swimming pool, where our 2 teens could enjoy swimming all the time, without worrying to share the facility with other hotel's guests. They loved it! The villa is provided with living and dining room, enough space for all of us to have a nice post-dinner gathering, enjoying wines and its pairing. It was a perfect BFF reunion, everybody was very happy, thank you Tegal Sari!

Room Tip: If you want to have a broader view of rice field, get a super deluxe on 2nd floor. Otherwise, the 1s...

OK can you keep a secret - Tegal Sari is a gem of a hotel in Ubud. It is centrally located, not too big to be pretentious and small enough to have that intimate feel. This was my third time there and the consistency in standards across the years always amazes me. The staff are by far Tegal Sari's greatest asset. They stop and chat, and can never do enough for you. Rooms (I stayed in a super deluxe) are very clean, comfortable, spacious and the grounds are kept immaculate. Having a room-service breakfast each morning overlooking the rice paddies was the ultimate way to start the day. I've already booked my stay at Tegal Sari for next year!

Room Tip: The super deluxe wooden rooms are fantastic value.
