Loves this resort and for such a great price! Their rooms are great and clean. Beautiful views looking over the rice fields with an amazing infinity pool. Friendly staff, great location in the middle of town with lots of great places to eat and drink near by. Definitely worth a stay!!!

I found the Cendana purely by chance in early February as a result of arriving at another, previously booked, hotel -- only to find it had ceased to trade as a hotel! I was pointed in the direction of the Cendana -- and it was love at first sight! It is right in the heart of a main shopping street, but you would never know that once you step inside its grounds and you suddenly find yourself surrounded by rice paddies and in a hotel with beautifully sculpted tropical gardens. Luckily they had a room available -- and I never looked back. The place is enchanting -- a haven of peace and tranquillity to return to after a day's shopping or sightseeing. There are 2 lovely pools in which to cool off and the de luxe room in which I stayed had a charming terrace on which to sit and survey the rice paddies and one of the pools. I wanted a truly Balinese feel, not a characterless modern hotel -- and the Cendana certainly gave me what I wanted. The staff could not have been kinder, smilier or more friendly and the whole place exuded the atmosphere of a well-run family run hotel. Waking up each morning in a four-poster bed and strolling through the beautiful grounds to a good choice of breakfast food in an open sided restaurant was a joy, even for someone like me, who is not a morning person! Finding the Cendana was a real stroke of good luck and I hope I would definitely go back there when next in Ubud. Many thanks to Nyoman, the manager, and to all the lovely staff.

Room Tip: De luxe rooms on ground floor have terraces with great views over the rice fields. Bathrooms are HUGE (though a little outdated).

I had three really nice nights in this hotel. Situated just in the heart of Ubud, Monkey Forest Rd. People were ally fantastic, lovely and nice. It is quiet and clean. They have lovely pools and good spa. Restaurant is also nice. My room was bit worn out already.

My wife and I stayed here for four nights and were delighted with just about everything we experienced. It’s in the center of a commercial district and until you walk back into the complex, you would have no clue that it’s in a beautifully landscaped setting, complete with serene rice fields coming up to the infinity pool The grounds are lovely and well maintained, two pools are very nice, the staff was friendly, breakfast in their restaurant was adequate and included in our rate. We booked 4 nights through Agoda for $348 including taxes. Based on some room reviews, we made the huge mistake of requesting 301c in the new building behind the spa at the far end of the property. Anyone recommending those new units has obviously not seen the other options. Our traveling companions were in 305 which allowed for room comparisons. The new building lacks Balanese character compared to the our friend’s unit. There was no wood paneling on the walls of the 301c bedroom, just painted walls, the balcony overlooked tall foliage, but when you looked straight down, the ground was littered with discarded construction lumber and plastic garbage bags. The bathroom in 301c was a sterile disaster with monochromatic ceramic tiles of no character, instead of the natural stone or marble of our friends unit. There was no walk in shower, just a white tub with a low threshold and a shower wand. Venetian blinds were about 12 inches from the shower wand and got soaked during the bathing process. The vanity was very low (as was common in the US 30 years ago). It could have been designed by a retired designer from Motel 6.

After a lengthy conversation with the manager, we managed to change to room 301 in a completely different building, This building consists of only two units…up and down. We were upstairs which allowed for windows on all four sides. It has a nicely furnished balcony, a marble bathroom with both tub and separate walk in marble shower shower, and marbled vanity with a high sink, So credit to them for coming through with a unit with character. Bottom line, I’d absolutely stay here again…but just make sure you really know which unit has some character. Apparently the complex has been built in stages as they’ve experienced increasing success…so each small division has a different look and feel. My pics were taken with a wide angle lens, so the rooms may not be as large as shown. Nevertheless, very nice size.

Room Tip: 301 has windows on all four sides. Each of the building complexes have different features and different character. Avoid 301c in my opinion. See my review.

I have been coming to Bali for 21 years and if you want the real deal stay at Cendana. Balinese owned, set in the rice fields, central location, this is the place to stay. The staff are lovely, attentive and trustworthy. You can stay in a fancy 5 star but you will miss out on a truly awesome experience that reflects the charm of Bali if you do! Clean, great breakfast and the best pools in Ubud!
