We stayed at Alam Shanti as part of our honeymoon. It was absolutely beautiful. I highly recommend it. Our villa was wonderfully decorated, secluded and luxurious. We had breakfast and afternoon every day on the verandah of our villa, overlooking a large fish pond while unusual wading birds walked past. Our outdoor bathroom had a fish pond too, and an outdoor shower, although there was a hot indoor shower too and a bath big enough for two to sit side-by-side and watch small lizards chase each other up the window frame. The pool was beautiful, and we were the only people there when we spent an afternoon there sipping Bintangs and watching little birds hop about.
We had the couple's spa package at the hotel's on-site spa, which was a bargain at around 60 USD for two hours for two people. We were given foot massages, full body massages, covered in a yogurt scrub and finally put in a bath full of petals and served chocolate cake, fruit salad and ginger tea in the bath. A very surreal experience but enjoyable and certainly memorable!
The only negative thing about our stay was that we had a few items of clothing washed and a couple of things came back stained because apparently they hadn't separated light and dark clothes. The reception staff were very reluctant to compensate for the ruined clothes. They eventually took the price of a t-shirt off our final bill but it wasn't easy.
The hotel is slightly out of town but we preferred this to being in the middle of Ubud, and the hotel provides a free taxi service into town. We made use of this a couple of times in the evening, but during the day the town centre is a short walk through the Monkey Forest.
We did the Cafe Wayan cookery class at the hotel's sister restaurant Laka Leke - I highly recommend this. We learned to cook five Indonesian dishes, which we have since recreated at home, and they gave us the recipes in booklets plus a parting gift (not to mention the wonderful lunch we had prepared). Laka Leke is a fabulous place and we returned one evening for dinner and to watch the kecak and fire dance which was unbelievable!

Room Tip: All the villas looked fabulous.

We stayed in Narmada room. Room was huge and very beautiful. The gardens were lovely and very peaceful. Breakfasts were very nice and very luxurious having it brought to your room. We stayed there with 2 small children and they loved having the space to run around the gardens. Service was very good and non intrusive. Breakfast arrived on the dot at the time arranged and plates were cleaned away without us even noticing.

If there were 2 minor things to comment for improvement I would say that it would be nice to have some arrangement for dinner on arrival. We got there at about 8pm on Saturday evening after a long flight and just wanted to eat and put kids to bed but were told it would take at least 2 hours to get dinner due to the restaurat being full. I ended up getting food from somwhere else. Also, when we asked for a packed breakfast for our early morning trip to Mount Batur, we were only provided with 2 boxes even though there were four of us and the breakfast was very basic - boiled egg and bottle water and slice bread - we missed our hotel brekky!! Would be nice to jazz the packed breakfast up a bit since it is included in room price. Other than this we definitely enjoyed our stay and would return.

We stayed here at the start of our honeymoon - what a perfect start!? Peace and serenity awaited! We stayed in Laksmi, beautiful room, four poster bed, which was supremely comfortable! Gorgeous gardens with a veranda to enjoy them from. We couldn't hear anything from the room, and slept like babies.
Breakfast was included, several choices, and you could request where to have it, ie - pool side, room or restaurant! Banana pancakes were divine!!

The location was perfect, a 10 - 15 minute walk around or through the monkey forest to monkey forest road, where shops, restaurants and bars await in abundance!
I wouldn't want to make the walk in the dark due to sharing the path with speedy scooters, but no problem, free shuttle from Alam shanti till 10.30pm, and if out later cheap taxis are everywhere - £3 tops!

Attention to detail was amazing, price was amazing! A huge thank you to all the friendly and exceptional staff! X x x

I'm a little late on this review, but I promised the manager I would so here it goes. I took my wife and 9 y/o son to Ubud in May and stayed at Alam Shanti for one week. The location is excellent. Walking distance to the Monkey Forest and into the town of Ubud. Alam Shanti is actually in the quiet village of Nyuhkuning, but it is a quick walk into the heart of Ubud. It's nice on the motorbike path/trail that skirts along side the Monkey Forest. You see plenty of monkeys but don't have to pay. Don't get me wrong it was well worth it to pay once and go check out the monkeys, but when you stay at Alam Shanti you get a little taste of the Monkey Forest for free every time you walk into Ubud. The rooms are great. Much nicer decor than the Bali Hyatt in Sanur(although we loved it there too). You place your order for the complimentary breakfast the night before and they will deliver it to your room. We ate every morning on our balcony overlooking the beautifully manicured grounds. My wife and son loved the spa. I chose to venture off the grounds and hit up one of the spa's on the way into ubud. these were cheaper, but my wife said the set and setting were no where close to the spa at alam shanti. guess you get what you pay for. The pool is nice and we had it to ourselves most of the time. The staff will bring cocktails, beer and food to you at the pool. This was a nice touch. There is a free shuttle that will take you into Ubud and pick you up after you have shopped or had dinner. The staff is friendly and will help you arrange activities such as whitewater rafting, kecak dance, dinner reservations, etc.... having a nice cool A/C in the room made for easy sleeping and the Wifi worked good enough for us although we didn't use it extensively . it would drop occasionally, but that wasn't a big deal to us. hope this review helps you on booking a nice vacation at the alam shanti

Loved the Balinese architecture & carved wooden furniture. Lovely gardens & pool overlooking rice paddock. Had the pool to ourselves when we were there. Staff were discreet & polite. Also stayed at Alam Indah - loved seeing the monkeys jumping from the rooftop (while sitting at the balcony!) to trees/pool area in the morning. More steps at Alam Indah. Staff were very helpful at Alam Indah with organising activities. Our lovely guide even came back at night & brought us to find fireflies. Gorgeous staff showed us how to weave baskets. Yummy breakfast - banana pancakes ummm.... Gorgeous bathroom & daily potpourri. Had a wonderful time.
