The balinese villas are nice. The rooms are huge, with plenty of space to laze around. The Garden House is nearer to the entrance and road, so it can be quite noisy at certain time. The Deluxe Garden View has bigger rooms, are more secluded and quiet, but almost double the price of Garden House.

I like the way they serve breakfast, you can order and request to have it anywhere in the resort. I enjoy eating my breakfast at the balcony of my villa. The nasi goreng is excellent, one of the nicest fried rice that we have eaten.

You can walk through the monkey forest to the restaurants, but beware of the monkeys which are rather aggressive. It is better to pass the namecard to the restaurant to call for the shuttle car back to the resort at night.

It is a good place to rest and relax, to enjoy the greenery, to find peace.

I went to Alam Shanti with advice from all other fellow travellers who had given their valuable advice on this website. But what I got there, was beyond expectation. We travel quite a bit, and I cal tell you one thing for sure, this is about one of the best places I have stayed in. The place, ambiance, service, beauty, ohhhh mind blowing. We stayed in "Lumbung House" and it was out of the world!!! Its very difficult to get a booking there though, as it seems packed througout the year and the year after. But if you are lucky (I have to use the word lucky here, as getting to stay there is pure pleasure) like we were, you would get there. GO FOR IT..........without thinking half a twice ;-)

You HAVE to stay here at one point in your life! This is by far the most amazing place in the world and we can not find a fault with it anywhere!! The staff were amazing, the breakfast out of this world and the spa was heavenly! We stayed in Indus and it was exceptional. Cannot recommend this place enough! AMAZING! Thank you to all the staff here for making the first 3 days of our honeymoon unforgettable!

we returned here for the 2nd time for 5 nights (sadly only 5). Gangga room was taken so we stayed downstairs for 3 nights and then moved to the narvanna (sp) room next door.

it was everything that we remembered from our visit two years before..... we love being just outside ubud... the free shuttle works well for us. the staff could not be nicer.... they were even wide awake and welcoming at our 1AM arrival.

let me comment on the irish comments above.....this hotel is in the middle of the wild outdoors with bugs everywhere....it is sort of a nature's delight.... so there will be bugs, dirt, etc..... the toilet stains i think represent their wish not to use chemicals any more than necessary...... our rooms had the same----BUT the toilet were not dirty, just water stained by minerals and rust. our rooms were both kept spotless... we did not use the kitchen but it did not seem dirty to us.... none of our seat covers were stained in any way.
so maybe they just hit the place on a bad day. Remember the balinese are non-confrontational....

for the money we still feel this is an exceptional and unique hotel..... we would stay here again in a heartbeat.... it was the best place, again, that we stayed in bali.
