“amazing and beautiful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 April 2012

We stayed in a superior villa and had a wonderful experience. Our quarters were absolutely stunning-- a huge bathroom that is half indoor half ourdoor, a large comfy bed, a private pool ... we had no idea our stay would be so luxurious, yet tasteful as everything had a very natural vibe and Balinese style. The hotel is also located just outside of Ubud so it is very quiet and peaceful. But it's still easy access to Ubud-- the free shuttle that the hotel offers was very reliable. Also the grounds were absolutely breathtaking. Half of the hotel is a museum, so the property is scaterred with beautiful temple ruins. There are also views of rice paddies. We also visited the spa which was absolutely amazing. I couldn't recommend this place more, it made our trip to Bali!

Rooms & villas are all very different a bit like a medieval room with stone interiors and shower built into brick walls with Norwood and plants growing inside. All antique type furniture quite dirty and broken though. There is some abuilding/renovation going on so noisy and busy near the pool. Food was ok and breakfast fine limited compared to the huge hotels but was enough for me. Nice to go in the attached art museum and also see some crafts and dancing, free for guests. Big drawback is there are many steps, no hand rails, deep stone steps. No service during the day round the pool a big letdown as drinks and snacks would have been nice. Free wi fi at the pool. Lights in the rooms very poor and sockets dangerous exposed wires, power so low it took 20 mins to boil water for tea and the hair dryer, I could have blown harder myself. You need transport or be prepared to taxi it everywhere. Nice to have a free airport transfer and the resort owner is around most of the time. Free tea/coffee at the pool 4-6. Overall for a very different place give it a go, but of u don't do steps steer clear

My partner and I from Melbourne stayed here for 2 nights.
Arma is located just outside of town so that it's a little to far to walk in the heat, but there is a shuttle service a dozen or so times per day. It sits amongst rice fields of Ubud and the area is just beautiful.
The resort was under construction so there was significant amounts of noise by the pool but NOT in our room.
The pool is large with free afternoon tea and wifi.
The rooms were nice and authentic. However, there was no TV which may bother some people. Also, the bathroom roof had some visible water damage.
The thai restaurant has delicious appetizers and mains. The price is fair - Our bill for 2 with drinks was less than 300,000rp. The banana pancakes for breakfast are equally amazing.
Definitely recommend staying here if you're coming to Bali.

The resort was amazing and such good value. The lush green surroundings with little river running through the compund was beautiful. The room was huge as was the bathroom. The bathroom was amazing grotto style bathroom with exposed stone work and Balinese features. The location was perfect, it was a little bit away from the main centre of Ubud but could still be got to by either free shuttle bus or a healthy walk. Peaceful and relaxing location. I loved this place and would totally recommend it to anyone.

Unfortunately, I stayed here on the last night of a great 10 day trip to Bali and by almost every measure this place did not compare favorably to the other places I stayed, even though in some cases it cost more than other hotels I stayed in.

My advice would be to go see the museum and walk around the grounds (which is this property's best feature), but rent your sleeping room somewhere else. The first room I was offered was near the pool, on the ground floor, and with the curtain drawn during the day it was flat out depressing. The bathroom was filthy so I asked to be moved. The second room was a little nicer (I could at least open the curtain during the day w/o compromising all privacy).

The breakfast included in the room rate was mediocre, particularly when compared with breakfasts I enjoyed at other hotels in Bali. With the exception of the servers at breakfast, the staff were across the board neither helpful nor welcoming. The location is a bit out of the way, meaning you've got to walk along a busy part of the road, which can be tricky after dark, or take their shuttle to go anywhere.

There is also a major construction/remodel project going on now (this was in early Feb 2012) so there are piles of construction materials and debris around. I'm not sure how long this work is supposed to be going on, but given the extensive nature of the work they're doing you might want to ask about that before booking any time soon.

Having stayed at many places in Bali, I would rate this one as one of the most authentically Balinese places I have been to (The Alam hotels being the other).

We rented a villa with a private pool and loved every moment of it. The bedroom was spacious and comfortable, the bathroom with open-air shower probably the largest I have ever seen and the garden and the bale beautifully done with views over the rice paddies. It all felt natural and the garden, though private enough, was open to three sides, which was wonderful - many other villas are surrounded by 4m walls and I always felt like being in a cage.

The gardens of the hotel and museum are huge and beautiful. We met Mr. Agung Rai for a small chat about art while strolling through the gardens and enjoyed some insights on the designs. It is such a magical place.
The Arma Museum showcases some amazing art from artists living on Bali, the coffee house overlooks rice paddies and offers light lunches and houses the store, which offers nice handicrafts. Also, the Arma Cafe serves great local food at decent prices.

Breakfast can be served in the villa when pre-ordered the day before or enjoyed pool-side buffet-style. We opted for villa-breakfast and the Nasi Goreng was one of the best I have had.

The place is probably not the most luxurious and does not offer top-notch service (you got to pick up your ice at the restaurant and room service does not exist), but we love the authenticity and the genuine friendliness of the staff. We will for sure be back!

Room Tip: Go for a villa...they are beautiful

Arma resort and spa offered a great deal on a two bedroom villa close enough to town to walk and in a very simple setting. The property is vast and is nestled close to rice fields. We satyed in a compound that actually had two seperate one bedroom villas with a huge open air bathroom for each and a pool that stretched between the entrance to the villas. 2 raised pavillions or "bale" stood on each side of the pool and compound where we ate our breakfasts in the morning. Really a very beautiful setting.
