We were traveling as a couple and wanted very middle of the road accommodation in Ubud. This hit the spot perfectly. We didn't mind the drive and the staff was simply too sweet and accommodating on everything - e.g. making bookings at spa etc. The room was large and very clean. Breakfast was very hearty - though it had really limited choices. We didn't use the on-site spa.

Negatives - the pool is really tin
y, there are no lounge chairs in the patio overlooking the paddy fields, the walls are paper thin and the stairs are very unfriendly to strollers. The TV is an old CRT model. You need to use their pickup and drop service all the time. It's not possible to walk/easily bike/take any other public transport to the main drag in Ubud. So either you hire a car and driver and keep it for your stay or use the pick-up/drop service they offer.

The plus side of this distance though is that it's all very serene, green and 'local' in it's surroundings.

This is a small newish boutiquey place, with maybe a dozen rooms, just outside Junjungan village, and is about ten minutes’ drive out of town. A river runs through it! It has its own restaurant, a small pool, and excellent fast broadband wi-fi. There are two classes of room. We had one of each – both were huge, well-equipped, and beautifully decorated, with balconies looking straight out over working rice paddies. Three minor niggles - all things so often encountered and so easy to put right. First, it was impossibly gloomy and almost impossible to read in bed. Second, the TV, for all its satellite channels, was untuned and unwatchably snowy. Third, the oval bath, despite being the largest I have ever seen (you could have a house-party and invite all your friends) had just a hand-held shower without a curtain – very awkward if all you wanted was a quick freshen-up. None of these is a serious problem, however.
We were grateful to find the restaurant prepared to feed us when we arrived after 9pm, and we had a nice meal. Breakfast was likewise terrific, beautifully presented and delightfully if somewhat over-zealously served by a pair of charming servers, who refill your glass after every sip. I do think, however, that the hotel should re-think its policy of having you pre-order breakfast the night before, for two reasons. First, on holiday you don’t always want to specify in advance exactly at what time you will be having breakfast. Second, their system requires you to opt for one of thirteen set menus. This doesn’t work. It may sound like a lot of choices, but many of the sets are simply variations on pancake fillings etc. and among the four of us none quite fitted exactly what we wanted! Much better would be to simply have you tick a check-list of choices, as you do on a hotel hang-on-door room service menu. Anyway, no criticism for the breakfasts themselves. There is tea and cake on offer in the afternoon.
Everyone in the place is delightfully friendly and helpful, with much bowing and first-name (preceded by Mr/Mrs/Miss) calling. Reception staff can arrange a number of standard island tours, pretty much at the going rate of 350/450K IDR. These are offered by the hotel’s drivers, who look like a small group of guys probably working for themselves, and who also provide the on-demand shuttle service into and from town. We found ourselves using this service a couple of times a day, and it worked well, though you obviously need a mobile to call for a pick up if you haven’t fixed a return time. We never waited long and the last pick-up was 10pm, which worked well for dinner in town.

Excelent breakfast, huge room and beautiful place.
Bad things: Hot water ends before you finish taking shower and very small pool.

The problem is when review are overwhelming the villa becomes very popular. Despite overbooked they will not let you know and continue to accept bookings. This is becauase the villa owner wants to make more money by passing the overbooked customers to the neighbouring villas for a extra profit. You only realised that when you arrived there in the middle of the night and being told that its overbooked, technical glitch in the computer booking system and you have no choice but to take whatever they recommend you around the nearby villas. Thats where problems begin. One couples was moved about and end up having their belonging got burgled, cameras, lens, pastport, wallet, etc. The room lock was smashed open while they were sleeping inside. Not quite possible unless they were spiked in the welcoming drinks. The owner claim ignorant and said the villa is open to the padi field and anybody can come in at night. Junjungan owner also claimed ignorant, just say sorry and you can't do anything.

The only way to ensure your booking is confirmed after the internet, is called them direct to reconfirmed again. I normally called first before I booked, unless its a 4 stars and well-known hotel. These are mainly private villas owned by individual and making more money is their main aim. Most of the service staff are untrained and don't expect anything more than just passing you the room key.

Jungjungan is absolutely gorgeous. We deliberately chose it because it was not in central Ubud, and we weren't disappointed. It was peaceful and beautiful. The service is excellent. The food was great. We found that the huge breakfast kept us going until about 4pm. We were looking for relaxation and definitely got it here. Ubud is only a few kilometres away and takes less than 10 minutes by shuttle. The wonderful chaos of Ubud was washed away by the tranquility of Jungjungan. We didn't have bugs in our room and it was spotless. My morning routine was to sit, coffee in hand, on the balcony overlooking the rice fields and watch those crazy ducks, and the workers in the fields who were very friendly even though we could only communicate through smiles and gestures. The lovely Javan Munias were another treat ~ pretty little birds that flitted around the balcony. At night, it was a wine on the blacony with the fireflies and geckos. Jungjungan is not for those who want to party 24/7. It's a place to unwind after the adventures of the day. It's not a resort that panders to those who need fast-paced entertainment. It's the calm before, and after, the storm that is Ubud.

Room Tip: Awan 2 was fantastic.

Friendly staff, large room, excellent food. Choice of 14 different breakfast sets which could be varied depending on ones choice of eggs. We tried most of the choices during our stay and all very good.
Airport pickup provided but takes 1 - 1.5 hours from airport to hotel.
Shuttle provided at your requested time to take to Ubud as about 3.5km from Ubud itself.
Resort is set amid rice paddies and the ducks during the day and the fireflies at night are a delight to see.
Beds huge but did find them a bit hard.
Car and driver available to take private tours.
Highly recommended.

Room Tip: All rtooms have views over rice paddies

My three friends and I stayed at Junjungan for four nights. My first impression of this hotel was it looked like a big house in a village, nothing too special, but once I entered our room, my impression changed tremendously. I loved the Balinese style room, clean, spacious, simple yet elegant. The bath tub was huge and the flowers and fruit platter were good touches. Although the rice has been harvested, the view from our balcony was still great and refreshing, occasionally with ducks running around the rice field and men working just outside our balcony.

We arrived around afternoon tea time, and were straight away served with cake and coffee or tea, which were well received. Breakfast had to be ordered the night before. There were 15 sets of breakfast to choose from the menu. The breakfast serving was generous, the staff were very friendly and attentive, and they went out of their way to cater for our needs, as two of us are vegetarians.

The sound of the running stream provides tranquillity and serenity for those who wish to have a relaxing holiday. The remote location of this hotel makes it unique. I especially enjoyed the rural atmosphere and yet only 10 minutes away from the town centre. The free shuttle service by the hotel can be organised in short notice, and we have no problems with pick up as we arranged the time with the driver on the way out. The swimming pool was clean. It was a pity the massage room was closed when we were there, but the staff helped us to make arrangements elsewhere.

Just a little incident during our stay. Our friends had an issue with their toilet so were compensated by being upgraded to the Awan room on the second floor, which has a higher ceiling and better views.

We were even invited to have free afternoon tea on the last day after we had checked out and while waiting for our taxi to the airport. For the price we paid, which is under A$70 per night with breakfast and afternoon tea included, it was a bargain! I can see myself visiting this hotel again.
