Stayed a week in the resort and have mixed feelings.
Staff were very attentive, nice, especially in the restaurant at breakfast. They always had something to say, or ask, and we found it quite nice. However during the week we always had to ask for milk with our tea, they never remembered. Breakfast menu got quite boring by the end of the week.
Our villa was beautiful, spacious, but found the toilet and shower room rather smelly... The tablecloth in the outdoor eating area was dirty and horrible, would not want to touch it or eat my food on that.
Also the flynet around the bed was dirty and full of dead flies, I would recommend to wash them regularly....
We couldn't sleep on our first night due to busy "singing" frogs outside.... but it wasn't the hotels' fault of course.
Mosquito repellent spray was provided, but every day when we got back form day trips the room was full of them, I am not sure why the staff doing the evening visit had to leave all door open to invite them in? They put the electronic repellent on but was not enough, we had to go around the bed and just kill them.
There was a wedding in the neighborhood for 3 days until very late at night - according to other staff members there was a music band practicing for a trip to overseas- so you decide which story was true- and we have been moved to another (smaller) villa which had an adjoning villa next to it and could hear other people in there!!! It is not what you expect form a PRIVATE villa! Outrageous that it was the only villa available because they upgraded everybody booked in their Ubud village hotel- it was closed due to renovation. They paid the hotel price and stayed in the resort where we paid $300 a night.
The resort surroundings and the garden was truly beautiful and relaxing, a lot of people are working on the landscape, they clean all pools every day.
We spent a day around the main pool, which was pleasant in the huge day bed.
The afternoon tea is included in the price, tried the rice tea, which was very different, but nice. Don't expect a big feed, rather some nibbles.
The girls making offering baskets there and teach you some basics, which was a nice touch.
We ordered room service twice, the Club sandwich was very nice, and very quick service.
If the heron tour is included in your package- don't bother to waste your time, the tour is that they take you to a road where the birds live and you can walk and hope you won't get birdpoo in your neck....We got out for 5 min, and got back in to the car and left....The birds are much nicer to watch on the rice fields while you are having breakfast in the resort.
Overall, I feel we paid a lot more than what we got for the price.

A 30 minute stroll from the centre of Ubud Village is this picturesque resort that flows seamlessly with its environment.

My top 5 reasons for loving this resort:
1. The architect must have made their way into my dreams as the pool villa was my idea of a dream home - room 431 was better than any of the website pictures and even came with a pond and associated wildlife
2. The breakfast selection catered to many different tastes, all beautifully presented and tasty - my pick being the bubur ayam
3. The welcome was particularly special as we really felt that we could relax and go at our pace as often this part can feel rushed or disorganised. This was an excellent preview of the service.
4. The entire resort seemed to know we were in Bali and Lombok to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary - arranging a celebratory anniversary cake to our room and spoiling us with lots of tasty food at an afternoon tea
5. The entire resort seemed to know when we were leaving - arranging a special breakfast and lots of 'we hope to see you again' hospitality that Bali has become renowned for

We've just enjoyed 5 very relaxing days at the Ubud Village resort & Spa and can thoroughly recommend it. We found the location of the complex was quiet and pleasant, being slightly out of the main bustle of Ubud. The actual grounds and surroundings of the resort are picturesque and immaculately maintained with the overall ambience being tranquil and serene.

Despite the villa we stayed in being, extensive, beautiful, fantastically appointed, clean and well maintained the main thing that impressed us at the resort were the staff, who were almost without exception fantastic. They were very friendly, attentive and considerate. They remembered our names and always, always smiled and spoke a few words if we were passing or if we had time for a chat would stop and chat like friends. We've travelled enough to know "plastic charm" when we see it but the warmth and friendliness of the staff here was very genuine and they really made us feel thoroughly welcome as they spoiled us daily.

We didn’t find the mosquitos and insects, mentioned by other reviews, a problem especially given the humid conditions and abundance of stunning plants, flowers and rice paddies surrounding us. The resort cloud spray for mosquitos regularly and had left spray in the room. We had some ants on our first day in the villa by the door but not after we applied some spray. The mosquito netting on the bed covered us fully and the ponds around the villa were full of fish so they dispatch any mosquito larvae. Anyway we'd consider the odd ant a fair trade-off for the stunning tropical gardens and lush environment !

There is really very little to fault about the Ubud Village Resort & Spa, I suspect that some of the less effusive comments here may be from the sort of visitor who perhaps doesn't approach travelling and meeting the local people with an open and friendly manner and so may not actually benefit from all that this terrific place has to offer.

Clearly, this resort has been around for some time and it's exactly that point which makes it so worthwhile. Embedded into surrounding ricefields, it's not coming across like an alien object that has been forcefully placed there. It rather rests there harmoniously within its environment, and it's therefore an almost natural sight to follow the skilful movements of a neighbouring ricefarmer in his field while enjoying breakfast on the terrace. Ricefields are also part of the resort and just like the rest of the park-like estate they are well kept. The villas with private pool have a great atmosphere and balance in terms of space, materials and colours. The friendliness of the staff is outstanding and they are always ready to go the extra mile - sometimes quite literally. Ubud centre can be accessed by their own hourly shuttle service or even on fo and offers great and many other restaurants, cafe, bars, so one never feels 'trapped' in the resort. My wife and I would always go back.

My family and I stayed here for 5 nights in 2 next door villas. From the moment we arrived, we experienced fantastic service. Staff were always greeting us with big smiles and asking us how our day was. Whenever we were hanging out around the lobby (i.e. when waiting for the shuttle or when returning to the hotel from a tour/town), they always struck up conversation with us. Staff always went great lengths to make sure we were satisfied with our stay. My dad was feeling pretty sick one day, and the front desk offered hot tea and porridge at no extra cost. While the rest of us were out on a tour, they even called the room to make sure he was doing ok and asked if he needed anything.

The setting and surroundings of the resort is beautiful. It's surrounded by local farms/rice paddies. There's lots of greenery on the resort, which makes for a beautiful setting, but it also means lots of bugs. Like some other reviews have mentioned, there are a lot of bugs and mosquitos. The resort tries to keep them away by providing repellants which you should spray under the doors and corners of your villa. They also turn on lights outside and close your curtains because in the evenings, bugs tend to gravitate toward light. They do other things to try to repel the bugs as well, but because of the setting and the amount of greenery (and rainy season), there's still going to be bugs. I've lived in the a very similar tropical environment before, so I kind of just knew how to deal with them and knew the tricks to keep them away, but I know the bugs would bother other people.

The spa there is amazing and very reasonably priced compared to other resort spas. The massage rooms are very spacious with a nice garden view, private bathroom and shower, toiletries, bathtub, and couch. After your treatment, they give you delicious complimentary pot of ginger tea and green tea pound cake.

Restaurant was pretty good. We actually got room service from there twice and ate there once. It was pretty slow on the night we ate there but they said it was full the night prior. The food is good and reasonably priced for being a hotel restaurant. Breakfast there was lovely too. It is a menu breakfast that's cook to order. There aren't a lot of choices, but certainly good enough for the 5 nights we were there.

The villas themselves were great. While we didn't utilize our villa pool/deck/bed/lounge chairs much, they were well-maintained and the pool was cleaned daily. Air conditioning in the rooms were good, beds were comfortable and sheets always clean, and the bathroom really nice as well. The bedtime turnaround service was great too. This is when the staff does what they do to repel the nighttime bugs/mosquitos, make your bed in such a way to "tuck you in," and provide you with a bedtime story on your bed (Balinese stories).

Overall, this was an amazing resort and a good price, and we would not hesitate to stay here again. The service here was above and beyond what we had expected.

I so wanted to be able to write a glowing review of this property, but unfortunately after staying there, it just wasn't up to the standard of other establishments.

My partner and I stayed here for 3 nights in a garden view villa after having stayed in Nusa Dua for 8 nights.

When we arrived, we were greated by name, checked in and given a cool drink and cold towel while looking over the resort, which is stunning I must say.

We were taken to our villa and given a tour and made to feel welcome. The villa has its own plunge pool, cabana and deck chairs. The room has a four-poster bed, tv with DVD player, writing desk, indoor shower, outdoor shower, separate toilet, and a beautiful outdoor spa bath.

On the surface, this all seems fantastic, however the resort is looking tired and not well-looked after. The decks were weather worn, the room had marks and wearing, and you could even see from the resort directory in the room, it had all the pages falling out and was water damaged. I thought maybe this was the case for just our villa, but even by the main pool, you can see that the decks are weather worn as well. Also, you can clearly see that the bed linen is worn and not the quality you would expect from a 5 star resort, and you could see huge yellow stains on the sleeping pillows on the bed which made us very hesitant to lay on them.

The restaurant was just ok, we did have dinner here one night but the food was average for the price you pay. There are much nicer restaurants in Ubud and other resorts that were far more enjoyable. Breakfast was fine, with fresh fruit, bakery items and a cooked breakfast.

The spa was good however, with much more reasonable prices than other resorts and good value for money.

But besides the tired aspect of this restaurant, the other main problem it has is bugs. We thought this may have been the general Ubud area, however, we spoke to another couple staying in a similar resort and they didn't have the problem we did. There are bugs everywhere around your villa, even huge black ants crawling across the tiles of the villa. At night there were so many mosquitos and spiders all hanging around the doors of the villa, and it was distressing that they may get into the room through the cracks and disturb our sleep.

The service at this resort though is fantastic, we just feel that maintenance, up-keep, and quality are something that this resort definitely needs to work on, as there are many resorts in Bali that are maintaining the above high standards and unfortunately for this resort, they are leaps and bounds ahead.

We feel that if we visited Ubud again, we would prefer to stay at the Samaya as this property seemed to maintain a high standard and quality far surpassing the Ubud Village and for only a small amount more per night.

Out of the way, but not off the beaten track; The Ubud Village Resort & Spa, their staff and gorgeous facilities and location took our breath away. Hendra Nartha and all the staff we encountered during our stay were so friendly and so very helpful.
The grounds are set amongst some local farms with beautiful gardens and landscaping and architecture. There is a real sense of beautiful Bali here. Our adjoining villas were just amazing, we felt very spoilt. I loved the outdoor bathroom and our private pool, the beds were awesome and very comfortable. The internet service in our rooms was good in the villas too. The main pool with swim up bar though was soooo relaxing and the food in the restaurant was delicious with a choice of western or Indonesian cuisines to choose from. The shuttle to Ubud itself was very valuable too, but it's such a great place to discover I'd recommend walking into town at least once to check out all the wonderful shops along the way. Ubud is such a lovely place to visit I'm sure we'll be back again.
