“Absolutely beautiful - a secluded romantic getaway”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2010

My partner and I only had three days in Ubud, I wish we had stayed longer! Bhanuswari is beautiful and natural, and the lobby/restaurant overlooks the rice paddies and the greenery of Ubud. We stayed in a Deluxe room, and our terrace door opened up right to the poolside! The meals in the restaurant are great, room service is also prompt. It was great that they had a DVD player available in the room, since cable channels weren't available like most hotels in Bali. There is also a great spa with average prices, but it's a gorgeous natural setting with good treatments. The free shuttle to and from Ubud anytime is a fantastic service, we didn't mind so much that we were a good 10 mins away since this was the last leg of out trip and we wanted to relax. The only thing I could fault is that the drapes in the rooms are very thin, so when the sun starts to come up (and it does so very early), all the light filters into the room which can disturb your sleep. If you want to be closer to the action I would recommend to stay in the heart of Ubud, but if you want to experience pure relaxation and peace, this is the place to stay. The staff were especially lovely and would go out of their way to help you.

From the outside this hotel has much going for it - great location in the rice fields, well laid out facilities, nice friendly staff. Scratch the surface though and all is not well at the Bhanuswari. It promotes itself as being designed and built by Balinese. It is however a poor example of local construction skills. A bathroom wall was black with mould as there was no extractor fan, the toilet kept backing up, cupboards made from the poorest quality plywood and front doors with gaps between the frames that let in insects. Some staff lacked basic training as we were forced to fend food which commonly arrived all at the same time.

The builders opposite our block weren't an issue for us but how many rooms now have that rice field view?

Overall, then a disappointment given the room rates charged. I give this hotel 3/4 years before the repair bills outstrip income.

The reviews on Trip Advisor are right on. Not in Ubud but this means it's nice and quiet. Clean, simple rooms, a bit old here and there but fine. Nice people. Service in the restaurant was not great - almost every meal some of our party's meals arrived late; too bad since the rest did enjoy their meal. Seemed like there were maybe too few people working in the kitchen.

Nice reception area, breezy and good view of the rice fields. Good pool, feels like you're in the jungle in a good way - lush and tropical. Could be bigger though - only 5 or 6 lounge chairs available and several times most were full (high season). Pool itself was never too full though.

Great that the staff will give you a lift to Ubud and back, very nicely arranged. This is even a perk compared to an in-Ubud hotel since the city is fairly large; it's nice to be brought/picked up exactly to / from where you want to go.

Yes you're in the ricefields and there and there there are gekkos and some ants - but the staff go out of their way to make sure the rooms are clean; they sweep the rooms twice a day, and all are non smoking, so this is really a non issue. Our kids learned to think gekkos are nice since they eat mosquitoes.

I arrived at this hotel for 4 nights in May 2010 with my girlfriend.
We asked the Hotel to send us a driver to pick up us from Seminyak which was no problem at all. On the way to Ubud, we asked the hotel driver to stop at a "silver factory".
Upon arrival at the hotel, we were warmly greeted and offered the usual "welcome drink". Two beautiful wooden sculptures greet you as you arrive in the hotel lobby.
The hotel lobby is "open" with a view on the surrounding rice fields.
Before arriving in Ubud, we definitely wanted to see the Neka Museum / Art Gallery and walk or bike around the rice fields. The friendly reception & Staff were there to help us define & organize all the activities we wanted. We chose the following activities
1) "bike down the volcano" through the villages & rice fields
2) a fabulous "balinese cooking lesson" in the hotel lobby
3) a visit to the nearby "elephant farm" (where you can ride your own elephant)
4) we created our own "two color" batiks for 3 hours in one of the shop the owner owns
5) we visited to the Neka Musuem and the "Monkey temple"
All in all, this is a wonderful place to stay. The rooms are clean and made-up twice daily.
Fresh fruit is served every morning for breakfast. The saltwater pool is nice to relax in.
This hotel is located 10 - 15 minutes from the main part of Ubud which means you are surrounded by rice-fields and the location is very beautiful and quiet. The hotel provides you with free-transport (at least 3 private cars belong to the hotel) to the city center and any of the sites you want to visit. You just tell the reception when and where you want to go and they will arrange the transport. Likewise, after dinner in town, the hotel agrees to pick you up. (This means you do not need to pay for any taxi while you are staying at the hotel!). The owner, Mr. Soweta, is present every morning and evening to make sure your stay is as enjoyable as possible. If there are no cars available, he will even drive you in his own private car. An avid art collector, he will upon request show you his favorite art gallery where you can find the best art collection for sale from "cheap" to the the "best" balinese art you can find in Ubud. Quite an experience.

The whole staff is very friendly and professional. They are there to make your stay as enjoyable as possible and understand your concerns. The owner is a wonderful man who takes pride in caring for his hotel, staff and his guests.

You even have free WiFi in the lobby. There is also a SPA where you can have a massage or two or three.... which we took advantage of.

I would definitely recommend this hotel and stay there again.

If you wanted to get away from everything and spend most of your time at the hotel, then this is probably the place for you. There are rice paddies surrounding the hotel. Its so well tucked away that our driver had a bit of trouble finding the hotel. You may also enjoy the very loud croaking frogs and insects in the night.

However if you wanted to explore Ubud, in my opinion this is the best location. Although there was a free hotel shuttle service to the centre of Ubud, the trip each way took around 15mins in non-congested traffic (which is unlikely in the day).

My partner and I stayed here for one night in the superior room. The website says the room "overlooks the infinity-edge salt-water pool as well as either the rice field terraces or the spring-fed stream and features 1 king-sized bed." We were looking onto a construction site where I think 2 new villas were being built. We had 2 twin beds pushed together instead of one king sized bed. The outdoor bathroom was big but too hot. We could see that Bhanuswari used to be great, but is now a little run down and requires some touching up. Our plug hole in our sink was blocked.

We had quite an unfortunate experience at Bhanuswari. When we got back from Ubud centre in the night, we plugged a phone charger into a socket. The fuse went and the whole room was left without electricity. Luckily we had showered before this happened. We called reception about it and they promised to send someone over immediately to deal with it. We waited for around 30 minutes in the dark without air-conditioning. It was around quarter past midnight, we were tired and gave up waiting and decided to sleep without air-conditioning.

We spoke to the manager the next morning. At first he didn't believe that we had called reception the night before for assistance. He insisted that he would have answered the phone and he had no recollection of us phoning. Then he offered to take $5 off our price. We thought this was ridiculous. We said if we wanted a non air-conditioned room, we would have gone somewhere else and paid much less. The manager kept saying he didn't want to argue with us but he didn't seem to be very reasonable by giving us a $5 discount. In the end, when we finally checked out, the manager reluctantly accepted our offer to pay the price of a standard room.

The breakfast was ok. We were a bit disappointed that we had to choose between either fruits and a fruit juice. All the other hotels we stayed at offered both fruits and fresh fruit juice. Furthermore the pineapples that were served were not ripe enough to eat.

Our friends wanted to have a massage at Bhanuswari before we left for the airport. However for some reason the spa was closed.

Overall it was very unfortunate that we did not have the best experience at Bhanuswari. The rural setting amongst the rice paddies would have been very enjoyable if we didn't encounter the above problems.

Despite hotel booking sites listing this as an Ubud hotel (Asiarooms even has a fantasy map showing it in the middle of Ubud), it is 6km away and not even in the same regency. The hotel does have a free car to shuttle you into town, but there's nothing within walking distance (even the local village shop is miles away). Apart from that, all the reviews here are spot on. It’s quiet with a nice restaurant overlooking the rice paddies, service is good and the well-appointed rooms are good value. But it ain’t the real Bali (unless you think Bali is one big resort full of hotels), and Ubud has a surplus of other nice hotels. We stayed at one in Ubud next to rice paddies with an even nicer rural aspect, only a five minute walk to the centre of town. But if you hire a car (like we did on the last day here), this place is a quiet alternative and a pretty good buy.

We started our 1st resort at 10pm. Its approx 10-15mins drive from Ubud Palace and located in a village. Checkin was a bliss, quick easy and a good refreshment drink (ginger with soda, and perhaps some peppermint leaves) was served within 1min of our arrival.

We book deluxe room, which is within 1min walk from the main building in a semi-detached house. We seem to be the only resort guest at the deluxe side for the night.

The 1st glance of the room, is WOW, the bed is hugh and the canopy adds such a good touch to it (the canopy have functional usage, being in village right at RICE fields, some nights you get insects in the room). The toilet is as big as the bedroom, with the centrepiece being the bathtub. And our princess happily soak in that tub everyday. Resort provide 2-way transfer to Ubud (any place in ubud) by demand. This is really a good add-on service provided. We have the luxury to take the village chief's ride on one day, and he told us about his inspiration for the resort and hope it can provide his village people a stable income.

Breakfast in the resort is really so-so. The pool is small but deep, and out of 3days when we are using it, we have exclusive usage.

High speed free Wifi available at their restaurant and its complimentary.
