“One of the best we've ever stayed in while in Bali”
Reviewed 24 July 2011

Made, the General Manager certainly demonstrated his enormous hospitality experience and professionalism. The staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Of our numerous visits to Bali over the past 20 years, the breakfasts at Nefartari were the best! The villa was so spacious with a wonderful outdoor bathroom and private pool. If you want the "flash" western hotels, then don't come here - but if you want style, comfort, great service and real Balinese suroundings and hospitality, you would have to go far to do better than this - especially at the price. And of course, the on-call transport to and from downtown Ubud made our stay very easy. Such a quiet, peaceful place to stay. We will certainly book our stays here in the future. Well done Made and Nerartari.

We recently stayed at Nefatari Villas 2 adults and 2 children. As said before this is a small group of villas. We had the 2 story , 2 bedroom Villa Melati. The gardens are gorgeous with a "real" Bali feel. Our villa which was quite large, had a rustic feel but was very clean and comfortable. The view over the pool from the downstairs bedroom was lovely as was the view over the rice paddies from the upstairs balcony. Our children were old enough they didn't need us upstairs overnight . I think if I had really young children you might be better in a single story or 1 room villa. You can lock the door to the outside to prevent them wandering into the pool. The pool was quite deep and plenty big enough for a swim. The villa like most of bali doesnt have fly wire screens but the aircon works very well and the staff light mozzie coils every night. Although we rarely saw a mosquito we asked Wayan for a plug in mozzie repellant and it was immediately supplied. The semi outdoor stacked stone bathroom was decorated daily with flowers. There is a small restaurant with about 5 tables. The menu is small but everything we tried was delicious. We had our best satay in Bali at Nefatari. The breakfast is included and served until 1pm! We had more offered and served than in our previous 5 star villa. The french toast with palm syrup is to die for and when you are tired of all the rich food their hot porridge with banana and shaved palm sugar is the answer. I loved the pottery it is served in so much I had to source some from the market to take home. Wi Fi can be patchy in some villas so you may need to go to the lobby. Also the tvs are older models with limited cable channels. This didn't bother us as it had 3 childrens channels so enough to keep the kids happy right before bed. Location is a few minutes drive out of Ubud but this is actually a great advantage. The area is peaceful and surrounded rice paddies and the occasional villa. The on demand shuttle is great. You can be dropped where ever you like in Ubud. Whenever the children were tired we could call from anywhere and the driver would pick us up. We were always told 10-15 mins wait but never had to wait more than 5 minutes. Finally as mentioned before the staff at Nefatari are wonderful. The ladies in the office Wayan and Made (forgive me if I have that wrong) were friendly and obliging and able to arrange day trips and make recommendations. The drivers ( who also work in the kitchen /restaurant) are amazing. The were happy to answer all our questions and share some of their daily and family life with us. They were great with the children and good fun as well. We learnt more about Bali in our time at Nefatari than the rest of our 3 weeks elsewhere. To Gede, Agung, Arys (sorry about spelling) and Ketut thank you for sharing with us 'your' Bali. We really appreciated it. I would definitely return to Nefatari villas.

There was a review saying that this villa deserves a 6 stars and it's true! Not only that the villa is perfect, the hotel staff they treat everyone of you like a VIP. By the way we're supposed to be a group of four but when we turned out as five persons at the airport, the hotel staff who picked us up has called back to the hotel and informed them to get ready another extra bed, without extra charges. Tell me, which hotel doesn't charge for extra bed?

It's 10-15 mins away from the central of Ubud, but don't worry, they offer you shuttle service. The villa is surrounded by paddy field, trees and balinese old houses. Truly a quiet and peaceful place if you seek for one. Having a private pool is so cool that you can swim at night listening to all kinds of natural voices(bugs) without any disturbance but too bad it was a bit cloudy, no starry starry night =( By the way we didn't have any mosquito bites, amazing.

PS: The villa introduced us Putri Bali Spa when their own spa room is fully occupied, 3.5 hours head to toe message with only RP280k.

I stayed at Nefatari with my husband, two young boys and my parents. We had a two bedroom villa for all of us. The kids just loved their own full sized pool and the garden.
The staff are unbelievably accommodating. Anything we needed was promptly delivered. The room was cleaned every time we left. Don't be detered that this is not walking distance to town. Between all of us, we were in and out of Ubud 4 or 5 times a day and it was never a problem for the staff. A car was often in Ubud so it would only take a few minutes. Only downfall is there is a minimal menu - not a lot on offer. However, what is on offer is lovely. Breakfast delivered to the villa is very nice. The spa is definitely worth an afternoon visit and extremely good value for money. We would definitely return!

Booked a 3-night honeymoon package with Nefatari. Landed in Bali around 7.30pm and Agung waited 1.5 hours for us to clear immigrations. Agung helped us bring the luggage to the shuttle and offered us much-appreciated cool bottles of mineral water. He also stopped by at McDonald's for us to pick up some dinner, informing us that the villa's restaurant would have been closed by the time we arrived.

On arrival, Ayu helped us with processing the check-in and details of amenities while Agung brought us iced ginger tea. The reception and much of the villa grounds were dimly lit but this was what I wanted, to be away from the blinding lights of the city.

A pleasant surprise awaited us at our villa. We were assigned Villa Mitir, and I was thrilled by the pool. I had expected it to be just a plunge pool, but it was larger than that. Ayu brought us into the room and wow, high ceiling, comfy looking bed, cosy lounge area and open concept bathroom. The shower was half sheltered and had pebbled flooring, foot massage while showering, how's that? Tiny plants sprouted on the exposed pebbled walls just like a tiny forest. The stone bathtub was one of the biggest after my stay at Royal Secret Motel in Taiwan. We were also thoughtfully provided 2 bottles of mineral water for rinsing and brushing our teeth.

The refrigerator was located outside the room, and it contained complementary bottles of iced tea, Sprite, Coke and some tasty corn snacks. Replenished daily.

Just beside the pool was the eating area where we would have our daily complementary breakfast. Loved the mie goreng, slightly spicy and not oily like others. We also enjoyed the banana pancake with chocolate dip. There was once the wife was startled by the lizard in the dipping dish, a closer look revealed it to be ornamental. Whenever we wanted dinner, the staff would set the table and place tea light candles along the perimeter of the pool for a romantic setting. Prices of the food were reasonable, what you see is what you pay, no plus plus tax or service charges. We had "bebek betutu" for 150,000rp one evening and it was the most tender duck meat we had ever eaten in our lives.

The spa was situated beside a stream and the open wall faced the forest. The sound of trickling water lulled me to sleep many a time. Ilu, the masseuse, had to call me a few times before I regained consciousness, haha. We had a flower bath finale for one of our packages, and it was a beautiful and relaxing.

Located quite a distance from town, the management provided us with on-demand shuttle service to central Ubud. The friendly Gede and Ketut ferried us on different occasions, bringing us to savour "babi guling" at the famed Ibu Oka. We tried to walk back to Nefatari after exploring Ubud Market only to call for help at Jalan Campuan and Ketut came to our rescue.

We were reluctant to leave the place that so pampered us with food and warmth, but didn't have much of a choice since Nefatari was already fully booked. Our next lodging, though good, paled in comparison after such a wonderful stay.

What a pleasant stay (2 nights) we had down here. We booked the honeymoon arrangement: romantic diner with candlelight in your own private terrace of your own private villa and one hour of massage in the spa -- recommended! The villa is top with a lot of atmosphere, the staff is great, the food (of the breakfast and our romantic dinner) is very good indeed. You have your own pool, big enough to cool down. Free internet in your villa. Location is outside Ubud, but the shuttle service is astonishingly swift. When you want to leave the hotel you can leave immediately. When you want to be picked up from town it always surpised us how quick they were to pick you up.

we stayed in several places in bali, and nefatari was our favourite. it is small, only 7 villas i think and quiet and peaceful, but only 5 minutes down to the hecticness of ubud, and the staff are most obliging to drive us there and back anytime we liked. the staff are beautiful and helpful and welcoming. the villa itself, we stayed in jepun, was beautiful and spacious with a tv and cable channels for evenings in. the pool is gorgeous, a partially outdoor bathroom, but totally private. the whole villa is very private and feels like your own little world. i highly recommend nefatari for anyone wanting to have a quiet spot to retreat back to after their daily adventures into the chaotic beauty of bali. ubud area is an excellant area to stay whilst exploring the rest of the island.
