We stayed in the large Villa (2 rooms) with our family of 4. A spacious 2 room house with 2 outside bathrooms and a private pool. What a great place, very relaxed, quiet what a great place to relax and adjust to the time difference... Breakfast and tea/coffee can be served in your villa. The drivers will take you anywhere you want to go in and around Ubud. They pick you up from town when you want.
Friendly balinese staff, from drivers to the reception.
There are obviously also some downsides to Neftari, which are in no comparison to the upsides, but have to be mentioned for a complete picture.
It is a bit outside of Ubud, you can not walk there, also you mis the view because of the walls around the complex, which gives a high level of privacy, but in return makes you mis out on the great rice paddy views!
All in all great place!

We stayed in a private villa with our own in-ground pool. Very nice to be able to go swimming at any time of day or night in a private setting. The staff are very discrete and room service was only done while we were out. Breakfast was a highlight being served to the two of us. Try the pineapple pancakes, they were the best.

One bit of fun was an unexpected visitor who made its presence known in rhe dead of night with a loud noise that we had never heard before. We later found that is was a tokai ( a large gecko) and the sound to-Kai was quite cute.

Location is quite rural with a lovely rice paddy walk straight across the road. They have transport to go to Ubud anytime so the rural setting was fine.

Only thing that wasn't quite up to expectations was the special dinner. Location was brilliant but the food could have been a bit better for a Western pallete.

Very reasonable price and overall a great experience. Would be only too happy to return.

Stayed 2 nights in a 2 bed pool villa and loved it. This is not the " four seasons"....but is an excellent "bali style" hotel/villa.
Nefatari still has one foot in the bali of old, with the basic but attentive service that you just can't fault.
Courtesy shuttle into Ubud (or restaurants) works well both ways.......you could walk but would be maybe 15min.
Complementary soft drinks/water in villa fridge
Included breakfast was everything we wanted and some....and kept our family of four happy.
Rooms are large and roomy, aircon(no fan), TV with indosat and DVD, mosquito nets, mossy coils set every evening, lovely semi-outdoor bathroom, lush pleasant garden with private pool in gated compound.
The only issues......a very slippery front driveway...beware, no towels when we checked in.....rectified straight away, occasional waits for the shuttle to return when heading out.
We would stay again

Love this place and have stayed several times now. Excellent value, friendly, helpful staff with the free transport into town being especially useful.

If you want old world Bali charm, you'll love this place. If you're looking for modern, western style accommodation, forget it.

My husband and I just finished 5 nights at nefatari and were so impressed by many aspects of this charming hotel. First was the price: we took the long stay package and it worked out to be around $100 AUD more or less a night. This is incredible value when we considered what we were getting - a totally private, painstakingly landscaped and decorated pool villa with personalised, friendly service, free snacks in the fridge, free afternoon tea, free breakfast, free transfers to and from the airport or next destination and free shuttle service anytime, anywhere in ubud.

Secondly, the staff are amazing, so friendly and obliging, they took care to make us feel genuinely welcome and barely let us lift a finger. They were always smiling and making sure we were happy with everything. We were asked to move villas for our final night, and usually i would be indignant about that when i had booked 6 months in advance, but Made and the staff were so tactful and nice about it I couldn't say no.

Thirdly, the villas are really delightful. We stayed in villas mawar (one bedroom) and paca (two bedroom) and both were quiet, secluded with high walls, tastefully decorated in traditional balinese style and sunny for most of the day. Even in rainy december, we still had full sun in the private garden/pool til around 1-2pm after which it rained for a couple of hours and then it usually became mild and sunny again with spectacular sunsets. Yes, it is still possible to get a great tan in the monsoon season when you stay at nefatari! The semi outdoor bathrooms were a novelty and generally mozzie free on account of the mozzie coils the staff put every day. You also have a choice of cats and kittens to play with as the hotel is host to at least 10. Although i have to say that most of the cats could probably use a vet check up as they looked a bit mangy and skinny.

Only thing, if you really hate geckos then you might have tough time because there were at least 4 inside our villa at any one time. They were a bit noisy, but it didn't bother me because (strangely enough) it added to the natural appeal of the place, call me crazy. However, in the rainy season with all the bugs, the geckos tend to get really really huge, but they generally keep to themselves and avoid humans although we heard them fighting/mating in the eves.

All in all, i would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a romantic, private getaway in the beautiful rural surrounds of Ubud, the cultural heart of Bali. Don't be put off by the location because the free shuttle is on call all day until 10pm and they will pick you up from whichever restaurant you're dining in. It's only a 5-10 min drive anyway. This hotel is especially good for those (like us) who travel on a budget but still want a luxury hotel experience.

Like so many other reviewers, we chose a week at the Nefatari for our wedding anniversary based on the positive reviews and great price found on here.

We could not have been more happy with the beautiful room, pool & bathroom. The service delivered by all the staff and drivers is always prompt, wonderful and friendly. The free shuttle service (to anywhere, anytime, it seems!) negates any concerns of being out of the main village, allowing you to experience a more rural feeling.

The breakfast and room service menu are delicious too. My wife also recommended the spa

We loved it and can't wait to go again.

Best value in Bali! For its very affordable price, you get: a beautiful private villa with pool, delicious breakfast, unique and tasty snacks, return airport transfer, unlimited shuttle to Ubud, and a true Balinese hospitality. Don't get me wrong, it's not the usual hotel staff hospitality, but a genuine appreciation of you as their important guest and part of the family.

We stayed here for two times already, the latest one in a two-bedroom villa with huge private pool. Airport pick-up was prompt, and Made was full of smiles when he saw us again after more than a year.

Upon arrival, we were promptly given warm towels and cold drinks. Afternoon snacks were also delivered to our villa. The snacks were different for each day, and you can also request for a customized snack if you want to.

The two-bedroom villa was very spacious, clean, and artfully decorated. The roof was a Balinese style thatch roof. The open air bathroom adds to the rustic Balinese atmosphere. And the poster beds were nice and comfortable.

Pool was of great size for private use, cleaned every day. You can also request to pump your beach balls etc.

Dinner selection was okay, and very reasonable priced. The food was tasty, nicely presented and of good portion. Breakfast menu was also okay, you can order as much as you want. Outside menu order is also possible. The Balinese coffee is also nice, not so strong but have a distinct aftertaste. You can enjoy your food at the villa or at their small eating area. Prompt delivery service!

The spa was also great, it was along a small river and you can have your spa treatment while listening to the gentle stream of flowing water. Alternatively, you can ask the therapist to come over to your private villa. Reasonably priced too.

Throughout our stay, the staff were exceptional, they never said no to our requests for special meals for our toddler. And it's really a wonder, but most of the Nefatari staff can be a cook, a driver, a housekeeper, a receptionist, etc and does it really well!

Overall, it was a truly relaxing and memorable stay, no faults what so ever. Typing this review makes me really want to go back there! And we will certainly be back.

Room Tip: Request for newer villa, and if you have seniors in your group, request for villas with no staircase...
