“Not without charm, but rough on the edges”
Reviewed 17 December 2013

If you know Doctor Who, you might think it's like the Tardis - bigger on the inside than the outside. Access is by a narrow door, and when you get in, it stretches out a long way with plenty of little gardens, all of which is very attractive of course. I found the bedding a bit meagre though and I didn't like a buddha in the shower. The breakfast seemed rather ungenerous too. When I asked for toast and jam, I got two slices of toast, a pat of butter, and a little box of strawberry jam. When I asked for scrambled egg and toast, I got two slices of toast, and one egg scrambled (with no milk/cream/butter added).

Room Tip: The rooms that were further back looked attractive.

When I first arrived, I was awed by the garden and the surrounding. But as a solo traveler, I need my wifi to be able to work in my room, and to find out it is only working in the "lobby", was a major issue for me.
Entering the room, was actually ok. Fairly big (no AC but a good fan) and clean. But then entering the bathroom was again a downer. Bad light and looked so, so clean. Hot water yes, but I wouldn't walk on the floor without my flip flops.
The location was ok, but it took about 10 minutes to go down to the center. For me it was totally fine, and I rented a bike. Was not interested to me in the center anyway, with all the tourists.
But then again, I still give the place a three, since you get what you pay for, the breakfast was free and the omelet was delicious. The staff very, very friendly. And again, the garden and the view from my room was very nice.

One of the longest-running places in Ubud, with beautiful grounds and a decent pool, but can't hide its age. While clean and well-kept, the towels, sheets and pillows had a bad smell, which easily happens in a humid tropical climate, but that doesn't make it any more pleasant, just like an ant-invaded bathroom despite the unhealthy spraying. While it is nice to have a pool, the size is quite small and there are only 4 deckchairs to relax, there wouldn't be any space for a lot more either. Not sure if those rooms under the pool down the steep side of the valley are still in use but I wouldn't want to stay there for free. For what's offered I find it quite expensive.

Ketut’s is a great Ubud experience! It has the feel of a homestay - there are 17 rooms but all are located throughout Ketut's property. The rooms are simple but adequate, and the grounds are beautiful. They are located about a 7 minute walk from the temple and market so it is close to town, and Ketut also offers a variety of tours for reasonable prices (better than the prices offered by vendors in town). We would stay here again.

The family was lovely and the rooms are set in some beautiful gardens overlooking a deep ravine at the back of the compound.
The rooms were simply, but effectively decorated and the breakfast in the morning served on your balcony or terrace was a wonderful treat. The hotel is quite a walk from central Ubud and quite diffucult to navigate in the dark, but it is close to the information Centre and to the Ubud palace theatre which hosts performance's every night.

Thank you so much to Ketut and his family. I stayed 12 days- I was magical to stay with this unique family full of wisdom, care and love. All staff are extremly friendly and funny. I highly recommend this magical place. It is quiet, clean with a unique swimming pool. Ketut is extremly helful and always recommend nice place to see in Ubud and more.

I just stayed at Ketut's for the first time in two years and am pleased to say that not only has it not changed, things are even better. Ketut is putting refrigerators into the deluxe rooms and doing renovations that will include new bathtubs and toilets, there was no shortage of hot water, and breakfast arrived bang on time. Though I've always enjoyed Ketut, I also thought that he seemed more relaxed and friendlier than I've ever seen him before. The whole vibe of the place seemed more mellow somehow - and as relaxing as it ever was. And the presence and help of daughters Made and Ping really added to the overall enjoyment.

The only disappointing change was one that Ketut has no control over - building on the other side of the river gorge that has thinned the jungly foliage a little.

Room Tip: It depends what you like. The cheaper rooms around the front garden have a nice "village"...
