“Everything we needed”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 April 2010

My friend and I stayed at Panorama for the Bali Spirit Festival. Our rooms were large and spacious. The bathroom was large with a bathtub but the shower head was low so you either had to hold up the shower head or shower on your knees. Towels and soap were provided. The lighting wasn't very good but the room at had big windows and a porch with table and chairs. The beds were clean and comfortable. Much better than I had expected. Hotel provided airport pick up and arranged a taxi for take us back for 200 000. The money changer at the hotel gave us the best rate. They also provided us free taxi service to Bali Buddha for dinner one night. The restaurant had a fairly big menu and prices are inexpensive but food quality is only okay. The gardens at the hotel are beautiful, the pool is nice. I didn't have time to try the spa. There are lots of other restaurants, tourist travel shops, money changers and internet cafes nearby. Monkey forest sanctuary is less than 10 minutes way by walking. Staff were friendly and helpful. One day the internet cafe down the street wasn't working so they let me use the computer at reception to check my email.

I suffered a bout of serious illness while staying at the Panorama and it is at times of crisis that you really discover the quality of hotel staff. The staff arranged hospital care, dealt with the authorities for me, visited me in hospital several times per day (even when off-duty), brought tasty food out to the hospital for me and passed messages to/from my family and consulate at all hours. Even the consular officer I was dealing with was astonished by how well I was being cared for.

So quality of staff and service are absolutely 100% at this hotel, and the poolside and garden are extremely well-maintained. I had a huge room for a very affordable price, too.

The grounds for this hotel was pretty and well maitained, unfortunately the rooms are not... The rooms are in need of new plumbing, painting, beds. In general they were not clean. Use to have a good view, but now built out.
Not worth the cost to stay here.

We stayed 2 days in Panorama and I feel that this hotel was better than what I had expected. The hotel room was big enough and very spaces. The breakfast chooses were very limited, just rice, pancake & coffee/tea, that's all. Anyway, the staff there were very friendly and the swimming pool was very well maintenance. Overall, I was quite satisfied with this hotel.

This place as the air of a hotel that was once always fully booked and very posh and is now in decline - probably because it is very far from Monkey forest Road, and they are building over the rice paddies destroying its once legendary view. The staff seem to realise this and the room rates are very negotiable at the moment. We still paid 300,000 a night but Ubud is a more expensive part of Bali

Ill go through it section at a time. First the rooms:
The rooms are very large, with high ceilings and hand carved beds. The lights dont light the space very well and the tv doesn't have very good signal but the beds are comfy and there is a good sized mirror. The bathrooms are not well lit again, which would be a simple and very effective improvement. They provide a step for children to reach the sink and there is a flushing toilet and hot water with a shower over the bath. The view must once have been very nice but they are now building over the rice paddies, destroying that view.
The facilities:
The pool has a pool bar and a shallow child area, but the pool bar is not in use often.
The spa is good but a touch over priced. I would make the walk to the Zen Spa for an equally good experience for a bit less.
The breakfast has a good wide variety, but is only open for about 2 hours so set an alarm. Because of the jet lag we missed it the first day. If you do miss it walk up the road - left toward monkey forest - and try the Kankiang Bakery - with some decent set lunches served all the time and freshly baked bread and cakes everyday.
The location and atmosphere:
The location is not great. It is a full 10 minute walk to the start of Monkey Forest Road and half an hour from the art market or ubud palace. This is really annoying, although just walking the streets of ubud are fun. You dont HAVE to go up monkey forest road, as it has expanded down the same street as Panorama, but it is cheaper at the markets and stalls.
The atmosphere is a little depressing - as if they know its lost the charm. The place is still periodically flooded with Thai tourists to take photos but the building work has clearly had an impact on their bookings. I felt a little sorry for them.
The staff are still friendly and try their best. The Indonesians are very friendly anyway.
For dinner and lunch I would walk somewhere else as the food is not particularly good. Try to find places that dont add a service charge - its hard but will save a bundle.

This place also takes most cards, which was lovely because we usually had alot of problems trying to use card.

First, the good things, very nice pool , with a view over the rice fields. But unfortunately, there is now beeing build on the rice paddies in front, so next year, there is no reason at all to stay here. The rooms are worn, and not well kept, especialy the bathrooms. 44 dollars pr night, in a town with so many reasonably new places coming up, and much more delightfull and balineese.
The best thing about the hotel is that its next to bagus pizza, who makes the best pizzas evet eaten, and they deliver, when you one night dont want to eat any more rice...

  • Liked — pool
  • Disliked — bathrooms, and now the spoiled view
