“Perfect location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 November 2013

Perfecet location to visit Ubud. Nice bungalows with clean rooms. There's also a small swimming pool, perfect to take a little swim. Good service, friendly people. Very close to the city center, you can do everything by foot. Very quiet in the evening to sleep. Aircondition worked perfectly.

This is a very good place to stay in Ubud. Number one benefit is the unbeatable location - right in the center of town, yet once you're inside, it's perfectly quiet and relaxing. No noise except nature, since it's located right above a river valley. The rooms are quite big, as are the bathrooms, and all have a lovely terrace overlooking the river valley. A morning walk to the far end of the row of bungalows leads back into nearly untouched forest, the way Ubud used to be. Ask for Wayan, one of the regular staff, who is extremely attentive and smart. You'll get fancier accommodations at other places but this is the real Ubud. Breakfast is a wonderful banana pancake with the traditional papaya, pineapple, banana and a slice of lime, that you can hardly get any more in Bali because of the tyranny of melons (which aren't a tropical fruit!!). Can't beat the price.

Room Tip: 2B was clean, quiet and near the front.

We were on a budget trip to Bali, and our first stop was Ubud. I knew it would be pretty difficult to get a decent place in Ubud which was close to the action and be good and cheap all at once.

But Abangan Bungalow was all that and more! Fantastic rooms, great service, good breakfasts, and a pool to boot!

What's close by:

1. The main Ubud roads with all the restaurants, although you might want to take a taxi if you're not in the mood to walk. Miro's is one of the best places to eat, nearby.

2. Campuhan Ridgewalk. Not to be missed. Just ask for IBah hotel, and you'll find it.

3. Kecak Dance at Pura Dalem village which is literally next door!

Though there isn't a laundry service in the hotel, in the same complex itself there's a guy who'll do your clothes for you, so it's as good.

Service is very good. Our taxi to Kuta was getting late, so the guy offered to drop us himself (for a price of course - but the fact that such service is available is quite heartening)

There were very few cons, really - WiFi access is not there in the rooms which actually could be a blessing if you're on holiday!

Plus, we found a dead frog in the pool which I'm sure was an abberation, since the rest of the place was immaculately maintained!

As a bonus, the door to the toilet was immaculately carved, if that sort of thing gets you excited.

All in all, a fantastic budget place to stay while in Ubud.

Price: We stayed for 3 nights, and it came to USD 97.62. In Indian terms, that was INR 5,545.59.

Clean and basic place to stay in Ubud. Great location. Huge Balcony, in each room. Helpful staff. Laundry places are close by as are many restaurants, supermarkets and tour operators. All the sights are more or less a 20 minute walk from Abangan.

Stayed for two nights in one of the two bungalows with two beds in the top floor. Bathroom was in very poor condition: dirty and stained bathtub and shower not working. Hot water available. Room cleanliness very poor: bed sheets smelly and very damp, spider webs in several spots of the room, cabinet falling apart. Too bad because the location is pretty good (few minutes from the beautiful rice fields) but the place lacks a lot of maintenance and is now really run down.

Room Tip: Do not get bungalows 3 or 4

This hotel offers a great location. 16 separate bungalows, Beds up stairs and bathroom down. Quite location. Well priced. Jungle setting. Hot and cold shower. Pool. Good value. Resturants right out side your door.

Room Tip: New rooms close to reception. Traditional rooms out the back.

We are backpackers so it was ok for us. If you are on honeymoon or on a week or two holiday I wouldn't recommend staying here.
The bungalow is situated in lovely gardens and has a pool but the bungalow itself is old and needs some work doing to it.
Good- pretty garden, friendly staff, big space in the sleeping level, comfy and large bed, close to the main streets but not too close that you get noise from the road, peaceful surroundings, lovely clean pool.
Bad- broken taps, no hot water in the evening, dirty, dirty, dirty, dark room, needs renovation, the breakfast that's includes is small and average, building work across the way so choose a room at the back of the plot, wifi slow.
Overall it's a budget place for budget travellers but to be honest it's not at budget prices at all. There are better places to stay.
