Pondok Catu is an oasis of calm and serenity in the Penestanan part of Ubud. It’s hidden away down a little lane way and as soon as you get to the gorgeous front gate, you know you have made the right choice.
The villa is very comfortable with all the amenities you would expect, and more. The rooms are big and spacious, there is plenty of space to relax downstairs at the table, or on the daybed, and upstairs in the lounging area.
The downstairs, outside bathroom is stunning and the pool is huge!
We are two friends who wanted to get away for a week to relax and it has been perfect for us, although we have both commented that it would be perfect for a couple or two couples as well. Very private and the two floors are pretty soundproofed!
We are surrounded by little cafes, taxis, small supermarkets and its only a short walk to pick up a taxi to go into the centre of Ubud (about 50k Rupiah).
I think we will be back as it’s such a great find!
Our family of four (two boys 10 and 15), stayed for a week in this clean, comfortable villa. The location suited us perfectly, Penestanan is out of the craziness of busy central Ubud (this area is more like Ubud twenty years ago when we first started visiting Bali) and the villa is an easy walk to lots of great cafes, affordable warungs and health food places like Alchemy, as well as trendy La Pacha Mama (décor to rival places in Seminyak). It's also a nice walk to Intuitive Flow yoga studio, and we hiked the Campuhan trail each morning. It was always nice to return to the quiet, private sanctuary of the villa, relax in the aircon and pool, hang out in the bale which overhangs the pool and make our own food, cups of tea etc in the well equipped kitchen. The pool is good for laps, although it isn't heated and doesn't get much direct sun - great for avoiding sunburn, but a tad chilly at times. That's such a minor thing and not even a complaint as the weather was so balmy we appreciated the chill. If you're used to hotel style holidays, there's actually a resort across the laneway with a decent restaurant. This meant the kids could eat 'Western' food if they chose. They also made their own toast and fruit, and didn't bug us to buy more snacks, as the villa is truly self contained. The day spa next door Namaste is good too. All in all a perfect place for a family getaway, that would also suit two couples.
After looking at over-priced villas & costly hotels I found this gorgeous villa. It's 100m down a pretty lane in the rice paddies just outside Ubud. The housekeepers carried our suitcases all the way to the room. Beautiful walks all round, a great cafe opposite, bakery nearby for croissants & cake in the morning, a supermarket 3 minutes away - the location is just great. The villa is owned by a gentleman named Peter who was really helpful in arranging everything, as were the housekeeping boys. The pool is huge, with a gazebo you can swim under if the sun is too hot; all this in a lush, green tropical garden surrounded with giant heliconia & palms. 2 separate living areas meant privacy for both parties when needed. The bedrooms were large & comfortable, the bathrooms clean & the downstairs open bathroom really lovely. Loads of dvd's to watch, wifi & many basic supplies already in the kitchen. We really enjoyed our stay. Definitely didn't want to leave. And will certainly be staying there again. Many thanks to the owners & staff.
