“Beautiful place, perfect service, excellent value”
Reviewed 26 March 2012

This place was heaven for us, a couple of backpackers tired of expensive dorms. It is affordable for budget travellers and backpackers, the service is perfect, rooms are spacious, with a big bed, tv and DVD player, very clean, they provide towels, hair dryer, two bottles of water a day, shampoo, soap...
The staff was very friendly, even though some didnt speak very good english (Ragu speaks very well), they always sorted everything for us.
Its a bit outside town (you can walk but it can be dangerous at night) so just ask for the free shuttle, they ll take you everywhere and pick you up.
Good breakfast, with Indonesian and western options, fresh juice. Fruit, bread, eggs, potatoes in buffet.
Good but expensive restaurant and tours available.
The gardens and swimming pool are really relaxing.

We stayed at Saren Indah and we will return. Very peaceful lovely place. The staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. The rooms are big and very clean. The staff are wanderful they do little things to make you feel at home such as they will put the lights out for you at night if you are out so when you return at your room you can see where to put the key, they will close the curtains in your room late evening they will rearrange your bed few times a day. I think once you leave room they come and tidy everything. Clean towels every day. Breakfast is very good. The staff will ask you how you like your eggs and thy make it perfect.
There are monkey everywhere as the place is close to the monkey forest. The locals are lovely the stair ants in town are so good. And do not miss the dinner next door ;) we will return to this heavenly place.

It was perfect. The food was absolutely excellent. Rooms, bed, everything perfect.
The staff so professional and friendly. We had a problem one night with people above us being very noisy and I contacted front desk and they were gone the next day. I couldnt say anything negative about the experience at this hotel. They booked us into a cooking class also and my husband and I had an absolute ball cooking and learning and relaxing and pigging out at the end of it. They were also very professional picking us up at the hotel and dropping us off at the end of it. Loved my stay from beginning to end.

My husband and I stayed at Saren Indah for 4 nights at the end of January. We took the 3 night package with an extra night in the Superior View room. I have to say that from the moment we arrived until we left we were very happy with both the hotel and the staff.
The bed was huge, a real King size, 4 poster with mosquito net around it. Very romantic! The room itself wasn't too big, but we didn't need much room and there is a large balcony to when you just want to relax. The hotel provides a mosquito coil each day for the balcony, but we brought a few extra as we sat out there a bit. Our balcony did look over rice fields, but there were a few trees in the way. The bathroom was very big as well. I think the only problem I had the whole time was the shower - it does the job, but isn't the best. The rose was a bit low on the wall for my husband and myself, so it was a little bit awkward to shower. Other than that, it was fine.
The things that set this hotel apart is the beauty of the hotel, the staff (who were all wonderful) and the food at the restaurant. The deal we had included breakfast each morning and 3 x set menu for lunch or dinner. I think the staff got bored with us when we ordered nasi goreng every day, but it was so delicious. The other meals were very nice, included the usual (more nasi goreng, sate).
The grounds aren't huge, but then it is a smaller boutique hotel and had all the amenties you need - pool, restaurant, bar and shuttle bus into Ubud.
You can walk through Monkey Forest to get into Ubud, through the park itself (which costs about 20,000rp) or just walk on the path to the right of the entrance. The hotel staff will advice about this. It takes about 10-15 minutes and you come out of the bottom of Jl Monkey Forest. To get to the market and the centre of town you have to walk uphill. Nothing major, just can get a bit much on a hot and sticky day!
Overall, we loved our stay at Saren Indah and will be very happy to return there at some stage in the near future. We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to friends and family.

Room Tip: Definitely go for a 'View' room for the upstairs rooms.

I have seen many reviews that mark down a hotel for things that were never going to be delivered for the price that person was paying.

Here is what I expect for the less than $50AUD a night we paid.

Clean room - including bathroom
Clean bedsheets & towels
Restaurant with basic tasty food
Good sold breakfast - not unlimited choices.
A great clean usable pool - preferably with functional pool bar
Friendly helpful service
A good but not in the centre of the action location
Excellent air conditioning
Some noise from next door expected - it's not the Hyatt it's one tenth of the price per night
No bugs! (lizards, geckos and friendly larger visitors no problems - it's Bali)
Chooks and roosters crowing - no problems - it's Bali
Tropical weather and bugs outside - expected - it's Bali

We got all that and more at the Saren Indah - the service was simply sensational - 5 star. Our room was up a large flight of stairs and could have been run down - but you wouldn't notice any of it when you saw the swan towels, the TV the DVD the other 5 star complimentary inclusions you simply do not expect from a 3 star priced place. The only noise was the roosters crowing in the morning - during the day and well whenever else because they are male right ;-)

The pool was simply lovely - large, sunny aspect, surrounded by a lovely garden.

The internet was avail everywhere with great coverage and reliable connection I found.

The hotel is PERFECTLY located for peace and quiet and just $3AUD from the centre of Ubud - or just wander through the Monkey Forest - The Monkey Forest if a MUST MUST MUST DO - ignore all the crazies that have written about aggression - seriously people need their head read - we saw some real idiotic responses to the Monekys - poor wee things were made to panic by half the crazy reactions of tourists - they are gorgeous and cute and friendly and will try and open you bag if it russles and sounds like you have food - but just let them jump on and jump off - cute as buttons. This hotel is 1 minute walk to the forest - has a couple of fantastic restaurants on the street and a spa that's not cheap but very good -

The cheaper massage place on the street was not cheap for Ubud - go to town instead.

The restaurant at the SI is simply wonderful - for a late night snack or dinner - delicious food, same terrific service etc.

The shower was great and the we had a terrific nights sleep.

They were full the next night (we only booked the morning of our booking for one night) so we moved next door to the Garden View to a buungalow - and still came back to SI for dinner and a snack - and that night they had a Bali dance troupe doing a show for their guests.

Unexpected like so many other delights here.

I am a bargain for quality huntress and I cannot recommend this basic place enough.

Our friend who lives in Bali did not know about this place and was equally impressed!

I don't usually bother bringing things like shampoo and conditioner bug spray - I just buy little bottles over there cheaply - deoderant is not as cheap. One of the best things about this street and this hotel is there is a circle K in both directions just a few metres from the door - the closest is if you turn left when leaving the hotel driveway.

Always choose the Bali coffee for breakfast - it's delicious. Breakfast is a choice of Indo fried rice, American or continental.

For the price - you receive fairly exactly what you pay for and much more. It's a great place.

We stayed here with our two children and our friends, what a lovely place to go for our first trip to Bali, loved being close to the monkey forest, a short walk to monkey forest road for shopping and great restaurants.
The staff were fabulous and kind. We stayed 3 nights, the restaurant was great so was Luka Leke next door. We had ground floor, very clean rooms. The kids loved the breakfasts over looking the pool. Highly recommend this hotel.

I stayed at the Saren Indah for 4 nights and found it to be a wonderfully quiet and relaxing place. The location is on the other side of the Monkey Forest from the center of Ubud so it's about a 15 minute brisk walk through the forest to the main town. The rooms are very large and the food in the restaurant was surprisingly good. All of the rooms have balconies looking out onto a rice field. Of course, the 2nd floor offers a much better view.

The staff is super friendly and helpful. They arranged for a driver to take me on a couple of day trips around the island. They also arranged a moto for me to use to get around the Ubud area. I highly recommend getting a moto for your Ubud sightseeing. Ubud is spread out enough that a moto makes visiting much more convenient.

For the price (my package included breakfast and a 1 hour massage) the Saren Indah is a great value for a visit to Ubud.

BTW, I had no problems walking through the forest at night with a flashlight. It's dark but it is paved. I guess some "city folk" are scared of the dark. :)
