“Beautiful”
Reviewed 8 March 2014

We stayed for 3 nights as part of a 2 week stay in Bali. Simply beautiful is all I can describe it as. The grounds, the rooms...we felt like we were celebrities!
We didn't use the shuttle bus to Ubud as we found it easy enough to walk using the pathway that went beside the Monkey Forest. Only tip would be to take a torch if you plan to walk back at night. It's safe and easy and there are plenty of people on scooters going past every minute or so.
The hotel setting is amazing in between 2 rice paddies with views to the Monkey Forest (we were in a second storey room). So quiet as well which was a pleasant change having come from a week in Kuta. The rooms were great - plush bed and a great bathroom.
All the staff bent over backwards to help us and everyone had a smile and a wave when we saw them and we had a few nice chats over breakfast or dinner with some of the staff.
Front counter had a computer and printer for guest use if you needed it.
Breakfast was perfect for us - pancakes and eggs any way made to order, pastries, toast, fruit, and a small asian porridge selection. Plus coffee and fresh juice.
Pool was also great and the bar staff were happy to bring drinks out to us. We didn't use the massage service which is located just beside the pool.
On Friday nights they also have a children's dance group attend the hotel for a show over dinner. They offer a set menu to go with the show but we just wandered up and asked if we could order a la carte and they were happy to offer that as well. The show was free and really great.
We didn't want to leave after our 3 nights and wished that we had booked for longer. We will definitely be back to Saren Indah, it's the perfect location in Ubud.

Overall enjoyable stay. The room we were given didn't look like the one online, but it was still very nice. The location of the hotel is good. A little out of town, where it's more quiet, but not a far shuttle ride at all. The staff is really friendly and accommodating. Excellent value for money, and awesome pool!

My only advice: specify that you'd like bottled water at the restaurant, otherwise they'll serve you tap water.. No one wants to be sick on holidays!

We stayed there for 3 nights to enjoy a deal which included a few extras when staying minimum 3 nights - discount in the restaurant, welcome drinks and fruit plate in our room, free wifi, complimentary mineral water every day and a choice of a discounted dinner for two or 30 min massage.

I had asked for just a little romantic touch in our room and when we walked inside the room there were rose petals everywhere, a hot bath with roses again, and a "happy honeymoon" cake! Since this was my very first holiday trip with my partner, maybe the cake was a little more than I was expected but it was a lovely touch to our stay!

The room was stunning, the porter that took our luggage to the room spent about 5 minutes telling us all about the room - from minibar to how to use their laundry service, to where the bathroom complimentary amenities were (including sleepers) and how to order to room service.

We had to change room after the first day as we wanted a room upstairs where you get the view of the rice fields and the monkey forest, and also in the distance some of the volcanic mountains. The location of the hotel is perfect, very close to town and yet far enough to avoid any noise whatsoever. The only sounds we could hear were those of the wildlife. the room includes a mosquito net around the bed and some insect spray to plug in your room, but I have to say that I did not see one single bug around even at dinner time while we were sitting outside. Maybe it was due to the season (we went mid February).

My partner got very sick on the day before we arrived to Saren hotel so he spent the whole time in bed. All the staff were very helpful with the chef making special dishes and cocktails that my partner could eat and every time I would walk around the hotel they would ask me about my partner and how he was.

From arrival to departure everyone was very friendly, always available before we even had to ask for attention whether at the bar, restaurant, or reception. The swimming pool is nice too with shady space in the afternoon to avoid the very hot sun.

Only downside for us was the spa - its location which is right next to the swimming with only a very light coloured curtain so I'm not sure how comfortable I would have been to be half naked having a massage while guests were around the pool.. Also it only offers one type of massage - Balinese - which may not suit every guest as it involves a lot of stretching and pressure points but there are a lot of other places only a moment away by walk as the hotel is right next to the monkey forest which itself is right next to the street of Ubud with lots of bars, restaurants, shops et spas.

Room Tip: Some upstairs rooms have views of the rice fields, monkey forest and even the volcanic mountains in...

I went with high expectations and I was not disappointed. Amazing location between rice patties and the monkey forest. The monkeys even come to visit some mornings.
Incredible service and cleanliness. Nice restaurant and facilities. We loved taking the 20 minute walk through the monkey forest into ubud, but sometimes welcomed their free shuttle service.

Nice clean hotel located 10min drive or 20min walk outside the centre of Ubud near one edge of the Monkey Forest. We stayed in room 104 on the ground floor in the middle of the property facing the outer property wall and overlooking a little stream/pond. We also stayed in room 105 for our last night on the second floor with a view over the outer wall and also across a rice paddy from the bathroom. Both rooms were pretty much identical except for the view. Both rooms were clean and spacious.

Pros:
Excellent service. I came down with Bali belly while staying here and the staff allowed us to use their phones (for several extended phone calls to online travel agents) to reschedule the next hotel with no charge. The staff organised a free hotel shuttle into Ubud to go to the pharmacy to get medicine. We also had to stay an extra night which was organised easily with a quick room change.
Good location close to Ubud and Monkey Forest.
The room had been decorated for Valentine's Day which was a nice touch.
Girlfriend commented on the good mirror with good lighting for makeup.
Nice cold aircon.

Cons:
Wifi was patchy and slow, but still worked. There was also a shared PC at the front counter that could be used, although I wouldn't trust accessing my bank through this.
Limited options for breakfast.
Bathrooms were a little dated.

Would I stay here again / Recommend to others: Yes

This is an amazing hotel! We stayed there 5 days in the end of November 2013, and we wished we could have stayed longer. The room was nice, the view over the rice field is wonderful, there's a free shuttle bus in to town, but the most amazing thing is the staff. They are so friendly, helpful, pleasant and they make sure you have everything you need. They even brought me a cake and sang a song for my birthday, which was so nice. We will definitely come back!

I was just so disappointed to see a busload of tourists dumped at the hotel today to learn gamelan - which if played properly is beautiful. The noise generated was unbarable, and they were not even staying there! The group could not play a bar and were let loose on a wide range of echoing gongs, etc. The gamelan is a very noisy, we could hear this from far away. This started at 8am with noisy microphones and carried on till well until after 3. The staff could not even hear us talking to them. I dont understand why a hotel would endorse an orchestra of gamelan when surely the purpose of a hotel is for everyones peaceful enjoyment. We could only think of the disruption to all in the area. I think that hotels are for staying with an occasional activity that does not hurt or offend anyone else. I looked at the poor people trying to relax in the pool i just couldnt believe it. I t is sad to see this grabbing money from busloads of tourists and hurting everyone else in the process is fast becoming a part of ubud life.
