Description: Murni, the owner of the equally famous Murni's Houses and Tamarind Spa, opened Ubud's first real restaurant in 1974 and it remains first in the hearts of many people today. The menu is varied and delicious and you can enjoy your drinks and meals and surf the Web using the free WiFi on one of four levels overlooking the river. Level 1: When you enter Murni's Warung, the first thing you'll notice is the view of the greenery on the river's hillside. The steel cable in the foreground supports the bridge next door. On the way to your table, you'll walk past a display cabinet of cakes and pastries that you should take a look at -- just so you'll know how much room to save for dessert. The restaurant is decorated with art from Murni's collection, including the small carvings high on the walls. Level 2: The large statue of Ganesha, the Elephant God, that greets you in the Lounge Bar was commissioned in 1997 and completed in early 2002. He and Murni are about the same height. This is a great place to have cocktails or meet friends for a drink. You can also eat here. Level 3: We generally reserve this level for parties, wedding receptions and birthday parties or when the Warung is overflowing. It can seat about 50-60 people. Level 4: And finally you arrive just above the river. You'll enjoy the sound of flowing water with your candlelit dinner in the midst of exotic surroundings. Murni's Warung Shop is a good place to wander in while you are waiting for your meal. And enjoy our books, Forty Delicious Years and Secrets of Bali.

Didn't even stay in Ubud this holiday, but made the trip up from the south just for a Murni's lunch.

As I was on a 'nasi goreng' tour this time I knew I was going to get what I wanted here.
The usual shared chicken sate for appetiser and aforementioned main meal went down a treat at our usual table down by the river. Didn't bother with their nice desserts this time.
Cold beers and friendly service.

They also have a nice little souvenir shop upstairs at street level that we always browse in after.

A nice lunch in a lovely setting.

“Excellent”
Reviewed 14 July 2014

This is a really enchanting restaurant in an amazing setting with great local and Western food. Service was delightful and the prices very reasonable. Murni's has been around for 40 years and the owner has a great shop on the premises, as well as accommodation and a lovely spa. We enjoyed great meals every time we went. Highly recommended.

“Beautiful location, great service, excellent fresh food”
Reviewed 13 July 2014

This is a hidden haven, with the entrance off the main road but once you go down to the bottom level you are treated to a gorgeous view of the river running below. My sister and I came here 10 years ago and were delighted to rediscover this peaceful place - as beautiful as it was back then.
The lovely staff were professional, courteous and friendly. The food was freshly prepared, the cocktails and juices very good.
We will be back again !

“Fabulous service, beautiful view and "bang for your buck"!”
Reviewed 9 July 2014

Although we ate at Bridges, Mozaic, Taco Casa and the like during our wonderful two week stay in Ubud our absolute favourite place to hang out and eat was Murni's warung.

There are numerous reasons why Murni's was the place we liked to revisit the most:
- fabulous views akin to those found at Bridges across the bridge
- amazing service from the friendliest staff ever
- delicious local food
- cheap cheap cheap! (We paid $15 for two people to eat full large meals with drinks)
- range of Balinese food options

There were some things that could detract from your visit - Murni's does for example not make high end posh food, they make home cooked good cheap food. So if you are looking for something a bit more gourmet than this is not the place for you. Furthermore Murni's best food is the local food they prepare when trying to emulate foreign cuisine it was not as fabulous.

Overall Murni's is still our favourite. Their nasi campur and chap cay warmed us and our hearts - keep an open mind and eat their local food and you certainly won't regret your trip to this special place.

“Good Indonesian meals, poor European”
Reviewed 8 July 2014 via mobile

The restaurant is oriented to river, so you can eat in very calm comfortable place just near the main Ubud road.
People are friendly and service is great.
The Indonesian meal was delicious (bebek betutu - traditional Balinese receipt for duck, as well as fried noodles). Just the order of "special offer of the day", gnocchi with tomatoes, was not good choice. My advice: don't try European meals and believe them only for their traditional Indonesian cuisine
