“A place to rest your mind”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 September 2013

Just relax and rest your mind for two hours there, leave all your troubles behind, just savor the moments.

The performers are great and entertaining, especially the little ones. They look so enjoy and serious to their performance.

I believe everyone enjoys the playing together session, we felt so great to play it together. The duration of performance might be a bit longer as the sitting is not that comfortable.

Overall, it is a great performance and a must visit in Bandung!

“Saung Angklung Udjo - the melodies that bamboo makes”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 September 2013

Although a visitor had to buy a ticket to attend the angklung performance conducted by the Saung Angklung Udjo Organisation, it was a small fee well spent. Visitors were not only entertained, some said mesmerized, by the delightful musical performance, but in the end were introduced and taught how to make music with angklung.

For the uninitiated, some introduction probably has to made to give you an idea what an angklung is. It is a simple but ingenious musical instrument of Sundanese origin, made entirely of bamboo, strongly tied up with tiny rattan strips, into a frame squarish in shape. The instrument consists of three (larger) perpendicular bars of half hollowed-up bamboo called the "voice tubes", placed roughly an inch and a half apart, over (smaller) bamboo sticks, rigidly attached or tied down to the bottom frame. The "voice tubes" are cut or carved in such a manner so as to produce a single note. The sound is produced when a player holds the top frame of the instrument firmly, and shake the bottom frame quickly in a left-right-left direction.

There are of course skilled angklung players who can play seven angklung all at the same time, but as a general rule, a musical piece is played by a group of seven players, or multiple of seven.

The experienced and well-trained angklung players at Udjo put up a 60 minutes remarkable musical performance with fun, flair and fineness. But the thrill and excitement for the audience really set in when all the visitors, more than 300 in number, were handed an angklung each, taught, coaxed and guided by hand signals by the sole youthful and skillful conductor, and made an orchestra out of an entire audience who played the angklung for the first time in their lives.

“Fun with angklung”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2013 via mobile

Decided to visit Udjo when we had enough of shopping in Bandung and what a good distraction it was.

We arrived early and had time to wander a round the store. Nothing much to buy unless you are thinking of getting an Angklung. The show started promptly and we were treated to traditional Indonesian wayang golek. The master skillfully handled his wooden puppets. There were traditional dances and the highlight of the show was when everyone watching the show was tasked with being part of the show. We were all handed an Angklung each and at the clever teaching by the son of the founder of Saung Angklung Udjo, we made music. No prior music experience required!
