Our experience at Santika in September 2013 was our first trip to Jakarta, though we have traveled elsewhere in Indonesia.
Santika's arrival point is very pleasant, seems fresh new and contemporary. Certainly the ground floor Reception, Lounge and Dining Rooms are on a par with more than the very best Australian Hotels. It's all very pleasant and international with a nice Indonesia touch. Perhaps for me it ended up being just a little too international, but it's not Bali!
Staff were mostly very helpful and friendly, but everyone can have a bad day: That happens allover the world.
Breakfast is excellent with a huge range of international foods. I would take your time and order something cooked just for you: Omelette, pancakes or some such. Though there is plenty of food ready to eat and many staff ready to serve. Certainly Breakfast is a high light at the Santika. T
Our room was good, plenty of room and comfortable. Perhaps getting a little tired and needing some maintenance.
Taxi service from Santika is excellent. Which is good because if you have not been to Jakarta you soon realize you have to taxi everywhere.
Gymnasium is also excellent, with spa and sauna separate for males and females. Plenty of range of weights, training equipment etc. I think Australians would appreciate this aspect. And it seems hardly used.
Santika's swimming pool is large and well maintained. Some people might find it a little exposed to the hotel traffic as it is in full view of the main breakfast, dinner buffet area.
The only issue I had was getting access to ice. But I experience this everywhere in Indonesia. Room fridges never seem cold enough. Staff always seemed to struggle with the idea of wanting an ice bucket in your room. Not a big deal but easier access to ice would be a small but easily fixed issue, appreciated by western travelers, especially Australians.
Some travelers might be disturbed by the early noise of local Mosques, which could be heard in our room. Hey it's Indonesia! I found it not at all disturbing and very pleasant.
As always practice your Bahasa Indonesian (Language of Indonesia). Santika staff will appreciate the effort and your experience will be richer. It's also respectful and heaps of fun!
All in all, Santika is worth a visit!
