My husband and I stayed in a Pool Villa - Seaview room. Check-in was comfortable as they welcome you with lemongrass ginger drinks and towels. The room was very romantic. Amenities can be better quality. The slippers and robes were nice. Towels were clean and soft. Bedding was perfectly white and clean. When we kept the door open, a squirrel came in. They are so quick but you know they came in because half eaten fruits/peels can be found on the couch/floor. We had a big opening between the sliding door and door frame which explains how they came in again the next morning. Housekeeping quickly covered the space the same day and made sure we didn't have any more friendly visitors. Despite being 90% booked, you will not see any unhappy or uncourteous faces. They were quick on their feet and always gave us a smile.

The breakfast spread was great. Western and local dishes were served. The eggs were done the way I requested them. Food in the restaurants were good and reasonable, considering that you are in an island.

The beach is not as long as the beaches in Phuket, Bali or Boracay but it was nice to walk on. Pools are not so big either, compared to the Westin or Grand Hyatt Resorts, but adequate.

Gym was located in another resort, so we didn't go. I did attend the yoga class. Vishnu was very helpful and patient. I even slept during the savasana.

As for the spa, we were driven to another villa, where we were received, offered a drink and given a foot bath. Afterwards, we walked down to the lower level for our massage. I had the balinese massage and felt really good after. I have a bad back and knee problem and was handled really well. My massage therapist was Miggy and my husband's was Rima. The treatment was the highlight of the weekend getaway! I enjoyed our stay very much! Thank you.

Room Tip: Request for renovated villas and make sure there are no openings/cracks on the side of the sliding d...

Fantastic location, however for a Banyan Tree, the accommodation was a slightly disappointing. With such an outstanding and out of this world location, our hopes were really high for this trip, especially being a Banyan Tree.

On arrival, the staff were friendly and welcoming, with a quick informal intro to the hotel and facilities.

Swimming pool and beach were very good, however one pool had been closed during the duration of our stay, and would have been handy as it was located close to our villa.

Breakfast was good, and pretty much the only social hub for the whole complex, as the restaurants in the evening were deserted. All of the food was great, however I could not understand why restaurants were completely clear of customers by 9pm?!

We decided to take a trip out of the complex for dinner one evening, and head to the nearest shops - this felt completely frowned upon, and taxis were charged to the hotel with a mark up which you have to pay due to there being seldom transport options available.

Villas were spacious, and ideally placed on the island, however slightly run down interiors. So much so, that our toilet had a clutch of mushrooms growing. This had been discussed at the end of the stay, to which the manager made amends - thanks.

If requesting any additional towels or replacement items, be sure to ask and ask again, because we still never received clean towels after requesting twice.

The bats outside are fantastic, and delightful to watch if you are not too nervous of sitting on the balcony at night.

All in, it's a great location, and has so much potential as a top level retreat, however a lot needs to be done in order of justifying the price per night.

Room Tip: Gold package on the boat to Bintan is worthwhile for a few extra pounds.

Dear Ross G,

We would firstly like to apologise for the shortcoming you have experienced during your stay with us. We acknowledge it’s partly due to slow service and the condition of the villa you were staying in. We are in process of rectifying the shortcoming by involving all the departments concerned.

However, we are delighted that you had a splendid time at our resort and that enjoyed the location of the villa, our associates, the beach, the pool and the breakfast. It is our wish to fulfil all the needs of our guests to their total satisfaction.

A wonderful romantic experience, villa 303 on the rocks was amazing. The care and effort in preparing the room and making our stay enjoyable was appreciated. Spectacular views and a very high quality accommodation. In room dining was beautifully prepared and executed with great attention to detail.

Check in was a little slow, food and drink prices are very high, in my opinion a little to excessive. Dinner in Tree Tops was below average, in room, breakfasts and beach cafe were all excellent.

Went there from Singapore for a night to surprise my husband for his 40th and for belated wedding anniversary. We stayed in a pool villa on the rocks.
What a gorgeous place. Not your run of the mill hotel, different and tasteful and staff so friendly!!!
Would go back in a flash. Not with kids though!!!!

Room Tip: Our rock pool villa was excellent! Number 500. Private, spacious, great bathroom.

My wife and I are genuine supporters of Banyan Tree: we have stayed at their Phuket property not less than 20 times from 1995 onwards. As we live in Singapore for some time now, we have decided to give Banyan Tree Bintan a try, despite the mixed reviews. We have stayed in Two Bedroom Banyan Villa for 3 nights in September' 2013, being the family of 3 adults and 1 child. Almost everything at the hotel requires immediate and significant improvement. The villa was quite shabby (despite the statements from the hotel staff that all villas had been refurbished recently; the only item which was probably recently changed were all mixers in the bathrooms). Air conditioning in the villa is based on the very noisy split aircons. I have looked at another villa as an alternative, but it was in the similar condition. The maintenance standards are low; the villas are quite dirty. Service quality is poor in general; staff members are very friendly but not properly trained. The quality of the food in all 3 restaurants at the hotel as well as at villa dining is mediocre. The Mediterranean restaurant, The Cove, is appalling inside, with extremely noisy old wine fridges and old split aircons. With the bright lighting in the evening it really looks as a canteen. There is no gym at the hotel, while the gym at the sister property, Angsana, is tiny and poorly equipped. The beach looks as a "leftover", with a pocket of rubbish at the side. The buggy service is unreliable: one time we had to wait for 30 minutes, and couple of times we just decided to walk after waiting for 10 minutes or so. The internet is slow and unreliable, at times it does not work at all. Overall, the hotel leaves quite a bad impression of being old and poorly managed. Although it has the potential to be a lovely property, it certainly does not qualify as a 5-star all-villa resort at its present state.

Dear Mikhail-K1970,

Thank you for your stay with us and for bringing this matter to our attention. We are very sorry that your stay at Banyan Tree Bintan was not as amazing an experience as it should have been.

We wish to apologize for your general disappointment with our facilities, maintenance follow up, food and beverage quality, restaurant interiors and the services offered. We were naturally disappointed to hear that it did not leave up to your expectation.
Your feedback is indeed very important to us and this will be a point of discussion with our Executive Committee members and the department heads concerned to take corrective actions and to seek long term solutions through a review of current maintenance and operational procedures.

In addition I have shared your feedback with our Chef and Food and Beverage Managers to review the quality of food and to ensure they reflect Banyan Tree standard and value for money.

I understand your feeling of dissatisfaction and wish to reassure you that your concerns are well noted. I would like, however, to take the liberty to inform to you that we conduct on a yearly basis villa maintenance to assure you of our continued efforts and commitment to keep adding value to our guests’ experience. The project is being carried out in phases.
Furthermore, our staff training is ongoing and we are aware that we still have shortfalls in our operation. Let me assure you that we are doing our upmost to rectify our shortcomings.

Once again thank you for choosing our hospitality and for taking the time to share your observations with us. We look forward to welcoming you back to Banyan Tree Bintan in the near future.

Sincerely,

Service is very attentive and always with a smile whether it be the housekeeping, garden or restaurant staff. Every effort was made to meet our every need.
I would happily recommend Banyan Tree Bintan to any prospective visitors.
