Bintan Agro Beach Resort
Ranked #13 of 37 Hotels in Bintan Island
Reviewed 6 February 2012

The resort is old and has not have good service. But that aside, what is really irritating is they intentionally mislead people by putting crystal clear waters and nice beaches which ARE NOT their property but you need to take a boat to reach that island, and can only spend a couple of hours. You pay SGD60-80 for the trip.

Their own beach is muddy water not suitable for swimming at all, with rocks and sludge. I think the resort should be honest. They have NO swimmable beach at all.

Rooms and service so so. Swimming pool always crowded. They have a swimming "pond" near their lobby. For kids only. Really not worth the effort going there.

Room Tip: Ask them if they have a nice clean beach or if you have to take ferry and pay to go to an island for...

Just a heads up. If you're already set on going to TG Pinang or a less-developed country, then learn to blend in with the local culture, and you'll be all right. You'll marvel at how simple life is in the villages, and how blessed we are in Singapore.

We went on a weekend trip to Tanjung Pinang, with little expectations due to poor reviews mentioned by previous guests of Agro Beach. just a note, we were also Groupon customers, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bintan.

Our ferry ride was a tad long (1.5hours), but it was comfortable and it got us really excited on our way to Indonesia. Upon arrival, we were welcome by a friendly staff who checked off our names and brought us (and other guests) to our bus. It was definitely interesting as our welcome was to the dirt streets and local street vendors. There were no proper traffic or roads for you to walk on, so if you're taking young children, it is best advised to be carrying them on your way out.
The bus ride took arppoximately an hour to reach the resort. I didn't have much of an expectation as mentioned, but when we arrived at Agro resort, we were welcomed with a friendly staff at the reception, that had rooms already allocated for us, which was on the ground floor. It's a sea-view room (only if you actually step out of your room).

The room was clean, and pleasant. But i must say that you have to remember to close your bathroom door whenever you're done using the toilet. It gives off this really strong stench, but other than that, all the facilities were great! Towels were cleaned, toilets were clean, and the twin beds were huge. And they had cable TV too! So that was a plus.

We were really impressed with the dinner, but we heard so much abuot the SunMoon Restaurant we had to give it a try. REMEMBER TO BRING RUPIAH! Their conversion rates are really poor, but if you're not a big spender, its all good. The seafood was fresh, delicious, and we were served less than 10 minutes after ordering our food. The food was DELICIOUS by the way!
There's also a mini mart if you're looking for a drink/snack.
Brekkie was okay, but don't expect a feast. i guess the food were more inclined towards a vegetarian meal. But its edible, so don't worry! (:

Overall, we had an extremely pleasant stay!

Room Tip: Try to get rooms on the second or third floor. You'll avoid being awaken by early-risers!

Visited recently. Was fortunate enough to get a room with sea view. Room was good. I would recommend to stay at this resort if stay is one or two days. Beach is good for water sports but not for people who are willing to relax at beach.
If you really want to just hang on at beach, Bintan cabana resort is much better place. There are free shuttle bus available form this resort to bintan cabana resorts, so better stay at this resort and spend your time at cabana resorts as rooms are clean and well maintained...Water sports and trip to other islands were just great at Bintan agro resort.

Break fast was great, not much luck on dinner and lunch.....and being very far from city...you have no option but depend on the resort.....
overall a good experience...

Room Tip: do not advise to take rooms on the ground floor

I do not generally like to give a negative review unless I feel that I have been led astray by false advertisements. I even took the extra precaution of checking out the photos briefly to check on the quality of this resort.

Apparently they have an excellent photographer who can capture photos and make the place look much nicer than it actually is. First off, the journey from the ferry terminal was really long and painful. We were cramped into a small van which had a sub-par aircon for close to an hour. This has to be a BAD start to a holiday.

The resort quite ok. We had lowered expectations owing to the fact that we had gotten the deal off Groupon. The room was decent, equivalent to a mid range chalet type with the basic facilities such as bar fridge, tv etc.

We decided to go have lunch. Lunch was just rice with a catfish, soup and some vegetables thrown in. It was free and relatively delicious so I would not be complaining. We proceeded to hit the pool which was not bad. The pool looked really out of place as it looked much newer/nicer compared to the rest of the place.

The beach was nothing to shout about. We decided not to try the beach sports as the boats were made of fibre glass and looked like somewhat dodgy. That aside the free kayaking was quite fun and we had a nice time paddling around.

The night was boring to say the least as we had a dinner similar to lunch and headed back to the room for some TV which was shorn of selection and entertainment value. I was already eagerly anticipating the spa package we were going to enjoy the next morning.

Breakfast was sub par with little selection. I was not really complaining as it was part of the package and the previous day’s experience had made me lower my expectations even lower to avoid disappointment.

The spa I have to stay was good. The place was quite tranquil and the staff were really nice. Whatsmore we got a discount as we had booked the package the day before. This was easily the best thing we had experienced before our pilgrimage (see the sarcasm?) back to the ferry terminal.

Overall it was a poor holiday bar the spa. I feel slightly frustrated at having to spend money and weekend time at a poor place. I would have spent the money better else where. To be honest I reckon my office would have been a nicer place to spend the weekend lol.....

The place is an hour ride from ferry terminal and basically an hour from any decent beach or food places except its own 2 restaurants. Good value and friendly staff are two plus points.
The spa facility is half done, with only cold water to shower. Massage itself is ok, but don't do the body mask or anything require a bath unless you are super robust.

We stayed in Bintan Agro Cabana, the sister hotel nearby and the biggest disappointment for us was that we booked this hotel as it advertizes itself on booking site(s) as being in the LAGOI area - where the great beaches and resorts are. The hotel is however at TRIKORA, at a small stretch of sand, with shallow water and no waves. The place is 1.5 hours away from Lagoi! Activities and bike / car hire are overpriced, for motorbike hire 10 SGD/hour, which is more than what you pay in Bali for a full day..... Service also struggles to be mediocre in Cabana, in Agro Beach it is ok. It's a beach and I'd trade it for a day at the office most of the time, but during the stay i couldn't shake the feeling of being cheated.
So my advise:
Spend MORE and visit one of the great resorts in Lagoi,
OR
Spend much LESS and go to a beach a few km further, called TRIKORA 4 (empat. MUCH wider beach and nice waves to play with. And the beach is totally FREE! Accommodation nearby is easy to find, just drive along the coastal road and try a few places and take one you like.
